Have you ever had a date show up and their entire outfit was inappropriate or maybe even bizarre? I think it seems like a silly thing to “deduct” points on when you are checking somebody out. Does fashion really matter that much, though?
I remember talking to a guy who said he didn’t call for a second date because the woman showed up to the first date looking too conservative. He said she may as well have worn a “nun habit” considering how little skin she was showing.
What do you think fashion and style says about our personalities and image on the dating scene?
Would you dump someone because you didn’t like the way they dressed?
Is it ever a good idea to give wardrobe “suggestions” to people you are dating? What if you were in a relationship, do you think it’s ok to change your significant others’ clothing or style?
When you see people out and about, is it their “style” that catches your eye before their looks?
Happy Friday!

To be honest, I mostly see young dudes rocking the skinny jeans. I can’t really recall going somewhere and seeing dude my around my age (34) wearing them. Then again, I haven’t been to a club in quite a while, so I could be wrong. Lol
What really kills me is dudes who wear skinny jeans and then try to have them sagging. Talk about a contradictions. lmao

Rock a black suit, DM, it’s a good look! One step short of a tux. Black is the new black.
@abc, I agree. A black suit is very versatile and just not for funerals.

abc you may be right. I’m just pretty traditional when it comes to my suits. I might give it a shot.

you should be able to tell how she looks…features don’t change with basic make up.
@DD…make up hides stuff and guys miss or mis read women features coz of it…trust me..
Queen told me of this lady we know whose face is dotted with black spots and was surpried to see her live and direct when she went to into her bathroom while attending a party at her house.
Ordinarily,we always saw her made up and never assumed anything.

DD – I agree. Unless I’m just around the house or chilling, I love the polish a little makeup gives me. A little bronzer or tinted moisterizer, a light dusting of powder, a little blush and gloss and I’m good to go – takes less than 5 minutes and looks natural, just enhances what’s already there. I’ll do the eyes if it’s a special occasion. I get my eyebrows done regularly and my lashes don’t need mascara. So when I do get glammed up, folks say “oh you’re wearing makeup!

Good Morning All,
On-Topic..I have always been drawn to guys that were geeky, nerd, with a hint of roughneck. So jeans..t-shirt..excuse me clean t-shirt..or button down with khaki pants..works well for me. No sagging pants, and other foolishness going on. Now what to wear..based on where we are going…you don’t need a 3 piece suit to eat a burger.
I am not a fashionista..I dress based on what is comfortable for me. I am not about keeping up with the lastest trends and colors.. I buy what matches my skin tones. Reds, Oranges, Black/White..etc. Now I have a thing for purses. I love them..and I am a bit of a purse snob…as for shoes..because I have a hard to find size I have never been one for buying and storing shoes. One of my other weakness is jewelry! Not traditional looking stuff..I like the exotic and different pieces. QVC hems me up good with some of their artisan silver jewlery.

@DD – features don’t change with basic make up – true for the most part. i usually go with mild shades that match my skin tone and eye, not bright @ss colors with glitter. i will admit tho to trying to make my freckles a little less noticeable…a bit self conscious about those. plenty of stuff out there for hiding blemishes, scars, moles etc….
guy picks a chic up, think she’s fine, get her home and she’s got 3 inches of stitches in her face…not cute.
@DJ – saggin skinny jeans – yeah, that kinda makes me turn my head, like wtf? what is that supposed to be, cute gangster?

abc is talking about the basics you would normally sugest to someone who will only buy 1 or 2 suits… Any man who has learned how to dress with class can deviate from those guidelines. Its sort of like the speed limit, when you learned to drive you were expected to follow the speed limit, but as you grow more experienced you find that you can safely travel above 55/65 mph and still avoid tickets.
I have to wear suits every day, and I would die if I had to wear a black or grey suit and a white shirt every day. They sell striped shirts, blue shirts and brown & blue suits in very upscale and conservative haberdasheries/tailor shops for a reason…(although I agree that there is no reason to ever wear a pink shirt and yes, wear a tie unless you are wearing a button down collar)
If you are a banker or a man who can’t match his clothes and/or has no sense of what patterns can be worn together then you should follow abc’s rules to be safe…LoL

There are NO patterns that go together. Never wear a striped shirt with a suit. Men’s suits aren’t for making fashion statements, they’re for looking dressed.

No, only wear a white shirt with your navy suit. I suppose some chicks will buy you a pale blue shirt to go with it, so then wear that… but otherwise, just a white shirt with a suit.
If you wear a striped shirt, you have to wear a solid tie. A solid tie with a solid suit makes it more difficult to get colors to go together, and typically, a man doesn’t want to stand around holding ties up to this or that. A striped or patterned tie against a striped or patterned shirt is just a mess.

Quit wearing pre-distressed jeans. They look dumb. Break them in yourself or buy a used pair off ebay. If you wan’t killer fades only wash the denims rarely. A good place to start are Levi 501’s shrink to fit.
Also only kids should wear short pants, they look dumb on adults. Same goes for flip-flops.

Simple Man, think of it like this, then: do you want to have a professional appearance, or not? What I’m talking about is a conservative and professional look, not affected by fashion trends. A man’s professional appearance (or one appropriate for a play, the symphony, dinner at Canoe or Bones/Chops, etc.) isn’t affected by fashion trends any more than a tuxedo’s appearance has changed in the past 60 or more years — other than length of tail, width of collar, number of buttons, or superficial modifications like that.
To each his own, of course. Frankly, professional or semi-formal/formal attire is probably an area not many people have an awareness of these days.

High fashion’s four-letter word – SAFE
But I guess safe is better that wrong.
A dude can be safe and look like a waiter or IBM circa 1984. But when he gets tired of safe, it would be nice to try to take it to the next level. Sneak a pattern or stripe in there with a solid. You know, live on the edge a little!LOL!!!
Guess what blog – I just found out I’m gonna be an auntie again!
