Dating: Time to break your deal breakers?

Single people we need a reality check. I include myself because I have been guilty of adhering to random dating deal breakers. Funny how I seem to meet someone really great who I have chemistry with but hit the brakes (no pun) when there is an issue with something about them.

It’s not just about having a “type” we like to say we prefer, it’s more than that. We extend our “I don’t do” lists so far that we talk ourselves out of a potential…something. We never find out what that something is because we don’t let it go further. We figure the deal breaker is protecting us from heartbreak, disappointment, confusion. Um, yeah… how’s that working out for you? (Said in my best Dr. Phil voice)

So let’s reconsider some deal breakers that we have that probably don’t really belong on a list of reasons to rule out someone, shall we? I will go first:

I never dated someone unemployed. Now, I am not trolling Georgia Department of Labor for dates or anything. I would however, give a guy a second look if he seems like a kind person. Circumstances arise that may cause some people to be in transition. Does that mean they aren’t dateable?

Ok, your turn. What dating deal breaker are you willing to reevaluate?

A quick poll of my single friends and I found that their deal breakers included: someone with full custody of their children; someone less educated; someone unfit or doesn’t work out regularly. What do you think? Are these legit or kind of ridiculous?

It’s almost as if we are meeting and dating, but when we spot a “human” thing, we just check out on the date or relationship.  Then less effort is made to take things further.  I can speak intelligently about this because I have done this too many times than I even want to admit to myself, let along you guys.  I am working on it though, this counts for something, right? Personal growth points maybe? It’s all part of the dating process, I think. Live and learn.

I just think that single men and women could both use a healthy dose of humility. Do you believe that men are more willing to overlook their “deal breakers” then women? Wait, do men still have dating deal breakers!?

Happy Thursday!

Many women over 30 have watched too many movies and they have unrealistic expectations about love and relationships. They may meet a great guy, but because he doesn’t meet some idealistic, unattainable except in Hollywood, picture of what a man should be, they dump him. Worse even is a couple years late he finds someone who can appreciate he is a good man and is off the market.

There you have it….again

Now that I’ve actually wasted time in my life reading that novel, I would actually say that you have it ass backwards, Stanley.

The traits that you list are most often subscribed to younger, immature women who have not learned several of life’s most important lessons – number one being “The fairytale is a lie.”

But er, um…yeah….no, I’ll pass on your brand of counseling. I’m doing just fine on my own. And so, getting married is not the end-all/be-all in my life, nor is it for several women that I know.

“What dating deal breaker are you willing to reevaluate?”

None, I reserve the right to smash women, like they did me before I became regularly attractive and financially attractive. I’m no Bill Gates, but let’s face facts, all is fair in love and war, and I demand retribution. There is nothing wrong with making a Woman earn it because we all know they do it to us, and quite well at that. It sickens me to see someone always given a free “meal ticket” in life or have mommy and daddy hold their hand in life. Those who ever pay attention to my ramblings know, I didn’t have those things growing up and have pretty much earned and paid for everything in my life, so I see no problem asking the same from everyone else. I don’t care what your excuse is, because that’s what it is an “Excuse” either that or you’re lazy. I made a lot of sacrifices to prove a lot of people wrong and to get where I’m at now, and I have to admit I find it humorous watching those who wasted their youth partying or making stupid decisions when they should have been applying themselves for their future. I’m not perfect, but damn I glad people made fun of me in collage and grade school for not being social-able, because now I’m the laughing and poking fun one  Love it or Hate it but that’s fair suckas!

blue, you’ve been married, you found someone to find you desirable enough to be married. It didn’t work out, but you did it once, you can do it again. Yes, as you get older there are fewer fish in the sea so to speak, but you have a leg up on those 30,35,40 who have never been able to find someone who could tolerate them for more than few months.

So basically Stanley you develop all this knowledge how? After a 30 something woman..dump you because you didn’t meet her ideal..so now all women over 30 have these same ideals? Come on dude…you not handing out pearls of wisdom..you are rehashing your own rejection and lashing out at others..cause Sally dump you for a more exciting guy. She wanted to go to the opera or musesum, or a movie and you wanted stay at home playing Xbox or buying imaginary islands on Second Life. I see clearly now.

blue, absolutely. A lot of men are players, and instead of settling down they are goign to take playing the field too far and end up 40 with an STD and a long list of women who want to cut their manhood off. A lot of these guys will die alone.

And of course some dudes are just losers, they don’t work, they drink and use, they beat women, etc. Let us pray no woman is going to get with these men.
