Dating: What have you learned

It’s great to be alive and well to see another birthday today! When I was younger I remember being in such a hurry to grow up and brag about my age. Now I pretty much dread it and try to avoid acknowledging how close to 40 I am getting *cough*.

I once wrote about what I would forewarn myself  about if I had a moment to speak with my “younger self”.  When thinking of everything I learned in my 20s about dating, sex, and relationships, what could I say? If you take all the pain and heartache away from our experiences, we probably would not be the same people.  What would you say to your younger self?

You know they say that we are the sum of all our experiences. I suppose that is true in many ways, but what lessons can we take from it all?

I have been writing here for 5 years and I have learned a great deal about love, relationships, and men from the dialogue we have here!  What have you learned?

Happy Monday & Happy Birthday to Moi!

Granted, a lot of folks looked gay in the 80s, but that was a bridge too far…

@GHANA ~ knew it was watermelon before getting to the end. It sounded just like watermelon and nothing else (LOL).

Thanks, I will delete the after party as soon as I get home and not even watch it. Wasn’t sure what it was going to be like so I taped it. Should have known.

PR — Doogie plays straight so well. Love the Harold & Kumar appearances. Doogie snorting blow off a hooker’s azz while cruising by in a stolen car: priceless.

LOL. No she was nominated for Benjamin Button.

Queen Latifah was nominated in Chicago too…she was acting like she was about to take her shoes and hair off.

Purple — Yeah, I’ve got them both on DVD… Those are my kind of movies: stupid & juvenile… I especially love the scene with W in the 2nd one:

“Do you like givin’ hand jobs?”

“Hell no!”

“Do you like gettin’ hand jobs?”

“Yeeeeah!”

“See there, who’s the hypocriticizer now?”

Kayne is the one that took the hits for the young cats to be smart and successful.

Yeah, you have Mos, Talib, even the God himself, but few (since Ra) would dare to go out like that.

And you’re right about Jeezy more than you know….

I’ve heard some rappers in interviews and been amazed at their ability to articulate because their music and lyrics are so dumbed down. Plies is one of those people.

You took the words right outta my mouth with that one…Plies is a college graduate but listening to his lyrics that would be lost ’cause they’re so @#$%^&*!! all of the time. Sometimes I laugh when I hear him profess to be a goone….I’m like whateva, dude.

On topic for a moment…what have I learned.

1) If it is not right for one, it is not right for either (so if he/she wants to go, it is better for both of you to not fight it).

2) If a woman talks to her man about a problem, she wants him to listen not fix.

3) Most married (and probably single too) women eventually go through a “desperate housewives” phase, where they have an unspecified “unhappiness” that they will, in the lack of anything else, blame on their husbands. All the guy can do is be sympathetic and try hard to keep his mouth shut until it passes or she divorces him.

4) (as said before) NEVER argue with an idiot, bystanders can’t always tell which is which.

5) You cannot make someone love you, they either will or won’t…and logic has nothing to do with it, never has and never will.

6) Respect is more important thanlove in the success of a relationship. All it takes to fall in love is a pulse.
