Dating: What have you learned
It’s great to be alive and well to see another birthday today! When I was younger I remember being in such a hurry to grow up and brag about my age. Now I pretty much dread it and try to avoid acknowledging how close to 40 I am getting *cough*.
I once wrote about what I would forewarn myself about if I had a moment to speak with my “younger self”. When thinking of everything I learned in my 20s about dating, sex, and relationships, what could I say? If you take all the pain and heartache away from our experiences, we probably would not be the same people. What would you say to your younger self?
You know they say that we are the sum of all our experiences. I suppose that is true in many ways, but what lessons can we take from it all?
I have been writing here for 5 years and I have learned a great deal about love, relationships, and men from the dialogue we have here! What have you learned?

Umm would I date a man who had “Jermaine hair”…..no probably not..then again he!! I don’t know. There are so many questions surrounding that “do” anyway. And I KNOW someone in his family has pulled him off to the side and at least mentioned something about that.

@ARed ~ yes indeed, and some of that stress lead to some dumb decisions on his part, seeking refuge in drugs and doing a stint in jail. Oh well, hopefully his road is a little less bumpy because his performance was like he was never abssent from the stage.

Purple Rain..those pants were his way of saying kiss the right rub the left. I know last night he was saying he was pretty wild in his day..(lawd why did he have to sound like Daddy Prince)..but I love him because he was different. He always seemed true to his music and that is why he is and always will be his Purple Badness..I was crying when Patti started singing because..I remember an interview she did on Arsenio Hall..and said how she and Prince were close..no better person to close out the tribute than Mama Patti!!

Kym, I agree. Only Patti can sing a song by actually singing only 5 or 6 words and harmonize the rest. I guess the point I was trying to elude to is that people are talking about Ms. Monae when in fact Prince himself was wearing “different” hairstyles and doing “wild” performances himself. That Trey Songs Purple Rain was predictable and cookie cutter, Ms Monae and the others was out of the box

I agree and that’s always troubled me. The man is 5′3…wears heels and weird clothes and always had a dime piece on his arm…. I don’t get it.

Kym – Right. I was actually cool with reading the awards commentary on FB and watching True Blood instead. After it was over, the channel flipped and El was there! I mean, someone at BET had to pull him from a halfway house somewhere and get him sober like Pookie in New Jack City.
I might actually go back and watch the repeat of the show, seems I missed some prime veiwing.

I heard it this morning on V103,too AmRed…I guess she just wanted to do it on her own time whenever whe felt like it….cause she sure as heyal didn’t surprise anybody. Now that I think of it I’ve(we all probably have) always known Elen,Clay Aiken and Ricky Martin were as gay as the day is long since I saw them and so did their peers but nonetheless they still chose to “come out” anyway via various outlets.

LadyJ The whole rap game is pretty much “surface @ best” right now. I think Drake has skills, and I like that he’s not afraid to be smart. I’ve heard some rappers in interviews and been amazed at their ability to articulate because their music and lyrics are so dumbed down. Plies is one of those people. Why can’t they just be openly smart? Jeezy is one of those people too, although I think he’s embracing it more of late. He’ll also sneak in some gems on the sly to let you know he’s smarter than the average rapper. “I got a black Bentley, I call it Phantom of the Opera” let me know he knew a little something.
