Top ten dating rules for vacations

I have officially shaken my birthday blues off and I am actually looking forward to the big day next Monday. I plan to have a wonderful, fun-filled trip to Florida. I will relax and read, soak up some sun, and most of all flirt like a professional! I’m talking shameless, nothing to lose “boy macking” behavior.

Vacations have a way of loosening some of your inhibitions, don’t they? That is the great thing about taking vacations, you can forget all your worries and focus on having a good time.

Vacations are supposed to be fun but sometimes it doesn’t always work out that way. I can recall a few “when keeping it real goes wrong” trips. I made a wrong move (told an older woman I was alone) and ended up stuck with jerk (her son!) on a boat for the weekend. Or the time when I landed in the midst of a couple’s retreat as I was going solo. Fun times, oy.

What is the best vacation you ever had? Did you go alone or with friends? You guys may know that I am not a huge fan of dating rules, so to speak. I admit that perhaps there is something to be said for being “grown up” and adhering to a few guidelines to avoid any problems.

What would you list as your top ten dating tips or rules for summer vacations? Do you believe that being away from your normal world allows you explore a different side of your personality?

Have you ever been on vacation and did something totally out of character for you?

Leggs, do you have anything you want to share? Drug mule and eating at money laundering places, is “Leggs” your nickname because you are a drug smuggler?

Not sure how they drive and not have a boatload of accidents. I call it the City of Debauchery!

Leggs – I have a lot of family up in the DC/Maryland area so I spent many a summer up there. Last time I was there was for an aunt’s funeral in 2007. The funeral & dinner after was over just in time for rush hour. I thought just maybe, if I got the right job, I could possibly live there – take the Metro to work. That experience with rush hour snapped me back to reality!

Damn blog monster…trying again.

I can’t put Vegas and New Orleans against each other! They’re great for different reasons.

Vegas is out west and has that great dry heat. New Orleans humidity is ridiculous and I hate feeling like I need to shower all the time. lol

Bourbon Street is stinky and smelly after a few hours of partying. It’s littered with trash and horse du.ng.

Walking the Vegas strip can be exhausing and the city can get expensive.

The food and drinks in New Orleans can not be beat!!!

DK…I have a friend that speaks the language, too. She teaches English to Japanese children. I think that flight really messed with my knees. I was in pain for the first few days. Feeling poor in another country is not fun at all. So, it really wasn’t the city. It was more of the totality of the trip.

British and American Virgin Islands are nice; Caribbean islands that are European colonies I can handle; it’s the independent islands that are a drag. St. Lucia is incredibly beautiful, but leaving the resort and being among the native residents is a big drag. Barbados, likewise. I hate to diss a people for being poor and the behavior that motivates, but it does not make for a nice vacation.

The blog monster is hungry today. Trying again.

I can’t put one over the other when it comes to New Orleans vs Vegas! They both have their pros and cons:

Vegas has that great dry heat. New Orleans is humid as heck. I hate walking around with stringy hair and wanting to constantly shower.

Bourbon street smells and is littered with trash and horse poop after a few hours of partying.

It’s hard to walk the entire strip in Vegas. The drinks are watered down.

New Orleans food and drinks absolutely can not be beat!

Leather good….Argentina has so many leather goods. I still have the leather trench and other leather “goods” that we got while there. Unfortunately, President George W. Bush showed up in Argentina while we were there. They really, really, didn’t like him. The question that we were asked the most was “Do you like Bush?” Of course, they could have meant something more personal, but we assumed that they were asking about the Pres.

@PR ~ that nearly made me choke. Good one!

@Kym ~ it was so cold and I got tired of walking doing a little sightseeing. Heard some really good music so I went inside. It was so dark in there that it took a minute for my eyes to adjust. I started looking around at all the pretty men and it clicked. oh crap, I’m in a gay bar. A few other women were there, but I couldn’t tell if they were tranvestites or not. Anyway, I partied with them and had a blast.

I want to do a whole tour of Italy and the Meditteranean region.

I really should have done that exchange-student thing in London when I had the chance while in grad school.

While working for Delta, I visited most places I wanted to go to in the continental US – Chicago, Denver, NYC several times, LA & San Diego. The only places I missed going to then were San Francisco, Seattle and Santa Fe.

Hawaii is definitely a destination too – with a SO.

Would love to go to Brazil & Bermuda

I got some traveling to do!

AmRed – Nope, not going to the National Convention – this is one time when I wish I was still active. I hear you on that NOLA humidity. My ponytail comes in handy.

SCool – I just met one of my new sisters this past year and she’s stationed in Japan. I’m planning to go visit next year and she asked if I liked karaoke. Who Me? Usually on a cruise I hit up the karaoke room every night.

My best cruise was the TJMS Fantastic Voyage. Won’t be able to go again until 2014 after the Teen graduates.

Melo, there’s a lot more to NO than Bourbon Street and the Quarter, at least, there used to be. I haven’t been since the storm, and from what I’ve read, I’m unlikely to go anytime soon.

For the best Cajun cuisine, head south or west of town, out along the bayous, to a shanty in the sticks. Coonass food is better stuff than blackened fish or whatever.

PG – You know people have been requesting that since the last time. I used to work with Convention Centers and everyone wants the Deltas to come back. The Omegas, Kappas and other frats said it was the best convention they’d ever been to.
