Top ten dating rules for vacations

I have officially shaken my birthday blues off and I am actually looking forward to the big day next Monday. I plan to have a wonderful, fun-filled trip to Florida. I will relax and read, soak up some sun, and most of all flirt like a professional! I’m talking shameless, nothing to lose “boy macking” behavior.

Vacations have a way of loosening some of your inhibitions, don’t they? That is the great thing about taking vacations, you can forget all your worries and focus on having a good time.

Vacations are supposed to be fun but sometimes it doesn’t always work out that way. I can recall a few “when keeping it real goes wrong” trips. I made a wrong move (told an older woman I was alone) and ended up stuck with jerk (her son!) on a boat for the weekend. Or the time when I landed in the midst of a couple’s retreat as I was going solo. Fun times, oy.

What is the best vacation you ever had? Did you go alone or with friends? You guys may know that I am not a huge fan of dating rules, so to speak. I admit that perhaps there is something to be said for being “grown up” and adhering to a few guidelines to avoid any problems.

What would you list as your top ten dating tips or rules for summer vacations? Do you believe that being away from your normal world allows you explore a different side of your personality?

Have you ever been on vacation and did something totally out of character for you?

Nobody is being honest about why all of the oil was allowed to gush into our waters
for so long. They didn’t want to cap it because then there would have been no oil at all -nor do the conservatives want a ban on drilling, Talk about Tea Parties

good morning!:) kym, i like those rules. they work for me! lol

@wisediva…i would also add that if you bring someone be SURE that they can follow the vacation rules kym posted. otherwise, it’ll make your vacation a disaster!

the best vacation i ever had is a tie between going to negril (w/my sister) and going to st. croix (alone). there was something very liberating about going away to a beautiful island solo. it was also my first trip to the caribbean. i had a blast b/c i was on my own watch and had no one looking over my shoulder…lol. it was great. negril was awesome b/c i was w/my sister. we get along well and were on super chill mode for six days…nothing like fresh lobster and champagne on the beach.:)

Hola!

Hey F2B! Now that is cool you went on vacation by yourself. I’ve always wanted to do that, but my mom will not let me. It seems very liberating. I met a lady on a cruise once, and she said how free she felt. Fresh lobster and champagne on the beach so true.

On topic: I am very free on vacation. I dress and behave outside my norm I am still time sensitive and use reason, but there is a certain peace I have about me on vacation.

Not in any particular order

1. Make sure you really know the fun side of your travel partner

2. No itinerary or plan – just go with the flow when you get there

3. Be clear beforehand on the “camping” arrangements. :-)

Summertime…

Good day…

What would you list as your top ten dating tips or rules for summer vacations?

I think the biggest mistakes that we make are that we forget that vacations are for relaxation and taking a date on a vacation especially in the early stages can be a big nono.

My tips:

1. If you two are just dating, make sure to keep everything fun, light hearted and free. A couple of activities that you BOTH want to do are cool, but please no iteniaries.

2. If you and your mate had a fight in the last few weeks, on vacation is not the chance to try to SHOW OUT; i.e, looking and flirting with other people, be respectful.

3. Allow each other a little space and dont crowd their space. Even a 30 min walk works wonders.

4. If you two are here together, relax on the texting and being connected like you normally would. Dont constantly take calls, text, etc. Vacation=Disconnect.

5. Make sure to go out and do something together where you both can let loose, a dance club, beach, something!

6. Dont compare this trip to a trip you had with an ex before. People do this!

7. Share some costs, nobody wants to feel used.

8. Dont make this the time to go deep with each other by having drawn out conversations.

9. Dont use this as a time to set the agenda for the rest of the encounter i.e. when we get back home we are getting married right?

10. NO FIGHTING/ARGUING/BICKERING/ETC! Please!

My best vacation didn’t involve a man, it involved my daughter.

I took her on a 7-day cruise and we had a blast. Truly, that was my best vacation.

My worst vacation was when I went to the Bahamas with a male friend only to find out later he tried to use me as his muse to smuggle drugs back home. Found this out as we were packing to come back home. I wouldn’t let him put anything in my bag and we had a huge argument. When the police came on the plane I sat back silently fuming but so relieved since I knew I was clean. Hot as hell, but clean as the driven snow!

I like adventure vacations. Deep Sea fishing, hunting, hiking, camping or white water rafting. Great fun with plenty of stories to share. I don’t confuse those with “shopping trips”, when we head to the beach and may go to a dance club or bar nightly. The main emphasis on those trips have always been shopping.

#1. Don’t be afraid to go simply because no one else you know wants to go (or can afford to go).

#2 Read the Dept. of State travel warnings for the couontry you plan to visit.

#3 realize that the crime levels are usually exaggeratted in the media for most non-Westernized countries… if you are comfortable walking the streets in a major US city you will be fine in most places (but there are exceptions…LoL)

#4 don’t let a lack of the ability to speak the language prevent you from taking a trip.

#5 Don’t eat at any chain restaurants that we have in the US

#6 Don’t buy souveniers that were “made in China”

#7 Don’t “look like a tourist” Don’t walk around with maps, fanny packs, jewelery, etc. If you need to check a map find a bathroom or ask for help, a map is a big red flag to anybody who may want to try to scam you.

Good morning all,

So far you all have listed some really good ‘rules of thumb’.

I like the idea of being open to trying at least one thing you’ve never done before…

Having a loose schedule but maybe some possible ideas of things to do…

Leave the reality of life at home because it will be there when yo azz step off the plane

Ensure that whomever you go with is someone or people you can actually have a good time with. (Some folks are just as boring on vacay than they are at home—shouldve stayed yo azz back at the ranch)

Bring comfortable shoes

Don’t be afraid to wear that cute mini that you probably wouldn’t wear back home.

Don’t be afraid to meet new folks

Drink
Drink
Drink

Be aware of your surroundings as much as possible

If going with an SO…bring a little something new he hasn’t seen you in already and WORK DAT THANG OUT! ;-)

More rules:

Do not trust the GPS, it may take you through an unsavory part of town.

Do not go to the club that is advertising the Friday Night Party on the radio, unless you personally know someone there locally. LOL

Do not sleep with anyone from that area, they are probably the local “whore” (not being gender specific)

@mqew ~ I did have fun, but spent quite a bit of time alone. Went to the beach alone, the market, etc. We were there for 3 days, but it took the second morning for me to realize something was amiss. He never left the room. I even took a cab somewhere and got us some dinner, which we both promptly threw up.

Good morning folks! Now this is my type of topic – VACATION!

Love the lists. I’d add one thing – research the laws of your destination. You need to know if you have to pay $10 cash to get out of the country so you’ll set it aside and won’t hold up the line at the airport because all you have is a credit card and your husband has to run get some $ from the folks that dropped you off at the airport.

Which reminds me of my worst vacation – it was with a guy I was dating and he didn’t bring enough money. He’d committed many other transgressions prior to that but I thought about leaving his behind on that island, LOL.

Best vacation was South Africa – had a ball!

Kym – you’re going to love NOLA! I wish I knew the name of this lunch place that has the lobster ravioli and $0.10 martinis. Name escapes me, but both times I went I left full as a tic and tipsy ;-)

NOLA is my favorite ‘let my hair down’ city. Forget Vegas – give me NOLA. I’ll be back in September for the game. It will be my hubby’s first time there.

If you travel with someone, try to make sure you have some level of traveling compatibility. If you’re an early rising, adventuring sightseer and your travel compatriot is a sleep-in, all-day poolsider that doesn’t want to venture out, trying to get one to conform to the other’s vacationing style could cause aggravation.

If you organized the travel arrangements and itinerary for the trip, make sure you’re on accord on what to possibly expect. One annoyance to avoid is for you to arrange everything and then your travel compatriot complains about everything yet they wanted nothing to do with travel arrangements.

Know your sidekick’s spending style and reliability, and make sure there’s and understanding on what you’re treating for vs. what you’re covering and expect to be paid back. If you do cover some expenses for your sidekick, know that they will reciprocate and not turn into an amnesiac when it’s time to reimburse you for picking up their costs.

Good Morning!

Boy, all this talk of vacations makes me wish I was on one NOW!

Before my SO, all of the best vacations were either with my family or friends! Unless you & SO are VERY established, I wouldn’t plan a big vacation, maybe a little road trip or weekend getaway, but that’s it. Then you don’t have to worry about MONEY or SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS, etc. You can concentrate on having FUN!

The few trips I took with boyfriends were not great. Were not awful, just not great. I would have had more fun by myself!

Top vacations I’ve had, in no particular order:

10 day Cali vacation to visit my uncle & his family. That was the last trip with my mother – she passed the following year. We had a blast, took a side trip to Vegas!

New Orleans AKA convention/mini family reunion. One of my aunts was being honored as a golden soror. They tried to get me to pledge – said I would cross over that 3-day weekend. Nobody would put up the money for me though!LOL!!

Cali for my best friends birthday, 10yr wedding anniversary and goddaughter birthday. We took a side trip to Santa Monica and had dinner at this fabulous rest near the beach. I met chef G. Garvin, who was sitting near us.

Christmas 2008 to Disney with SO and his family. Definitely the happiest place on earth, especially for Christmas!

NYC to visit best friend before she moved to Cali. Had a blast!

Why I choose NOLA over Vegas: I don’t gamble nor am I a shopper. But I do love good food, and being able to party without having to get all dressed up, stand behind someone’s velvet rope and pay a cover charge. If the weather’s right, I get to jog along the river in NOLA and through the French Quarter. I love walking along Bourbon Street at night and wandering in and out of various clubs to dance. And I LOVE the people there and how everyone calls me ‘baybeh’, LOL.

@Tazee..I am not a gambler either..but give me a bargain and I can shop with the best of them! Yeah I am not into that whole plastic club scene that Vegas had going on. Now if I want a sort of staycation..then you can’t beat Savannah.. lord I could go for some seafood from Tubby’s right now.
