On the dating scene: what do you notice first?

If you take notice of any given event where a lot of single people are, you will probably get the sense that we aren’t exactly looking for one another.  It’s that whole “too cool for school” attitude that makes single people appear aloof and uninterested.

I don’t know why we do it all the time but it’s hard to break the habit.  Even at single mixers when the goal is to um mix and mingle, many people don’t like to appear over eager or too desperate.

I get that, I really do. I just wonder if we are so busy trying to appear like we aren’t pressed or interested in anyone, how do we ever link up!?  When you spot that person with that certain Je ne sais quoi, what do you notice first?

I am particularly curious to find out what the gentleman notice first.  I notice broad shoulders followed by the guy’s face.  After that, I pretty much start to swoon when I observe the way he carries himself and speaks intelligently.

Do you think that the things we notice first determines if we will give it a shot with someone new?  Does our first glance of a person’s image impact the amount of effort that we are willing to put forth? If so, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Think of the last person you asked out or went on a date with, what did you first notice about them?

What is the first thing you notice on a potential date?

Amazon, my son is taking his girlfriend to see the Karate Kid Saturday. This will be their first official date. I say that because they will be catching the bus from her house instead of one of us parents tagging along.

Karate Kid was pretty good. Jaden Smith definitely has a promising future as an actor. I already knew the story.

Speaking of remakes, Spielberg planning to do another ET. It isn’t clear if it will be a remake or just another ET. Drew Barrmore will be in it. It will be interesting to see what Spielberg does with the technology that now exists. I saw the old recently on HBO and the effects looked funny, but it was good for the early eighties.

Speaking of Jaden Smith, did anyone watch Hawthorne last night? I watched at it the second time it came on as I was in and out of sleep.

Jada, should have tried to get a part on Grey’s or Private Practice. Hawthorne I don’t think is going to make it. Again.

Raqi – I watched Hawthorne. It was decent. As far as medical show go though, I am spoiled by Greys. But I will support Hawthorne, like I did last season. Plus, there really isn’t much else on except reruns.

I have to tip my hat to Steve Jobs and Pixar. They know how to do it. I can’t remember a Pixar movie that I didn’t like. They know how to put adult humor in their animated features that mostly adults figure out and still have references to things that kids like too. (The Ken and Barbie stuff was ripe for those kinds of references)

kimmie, Greek is a choice for tonight because it is the only comedy that I can think of but I really don’t like any of the characters in it.

Hey maybe we can see Shrek. Is that out yet?

Raqi – She’s an executive producer on her own show, which ain’t gonna happen on Grey’s or PP. Shonda Rhymes & crew got that on lock.

I’m not a fan of Hawthorne. I’ve tried a couple of times. I like that Lie To Me is back with new episodes and Leverage is also back. Hawthorne seems to try too hard.

@Prof ~ I bought my tickets for Twilight last week. Taking lil leggs and 2 of her friends to the midnight showing on the 29th. Have to take the 30th off so I can get some rest. The movie is about 2 hrs. 15 mins.

@SlimCuz….now you say she’s dressing slutty like in front of her son. That’s not cool. Yeah, you should have made a citizen’s arrest.

kimmie, I tried to watch it last season but it didn’t hold my interest enough for me to even remember when it was airing. Maybe this time having Vanessa B Calloway as her supporting actress will help.

I think this is really Jada Smith’s first attempts in a starring role. I may be wrong though. IMO opinion she is on okay actress. Vanessa Bell Calloway is a bit stronger than her.

Hawthorne seems to try too hard.

Good way to put it – I couldn’t put my finger on it. Yeah, it doesn’t have anything on Greys or PP.

I tried to watch Ice Cubes little show, Are We There Yet? Too corny, didn’t like it. I tried.

Jada may not have been the star, but I thought that she was pretty good back in the day on “A Different World”. I think that she was Lena James. That was a comedy though.

“Hawthorne seems to try too hard.”

That’s exactly what I would have said. That the story lines seemed forced. However, I still have it set for a season pass on my Tivo if for no other reason that to support Mrs. Pinkett-Smith.

Jada’s putting a lot of money into saving Hawthrone. She did a slew of radio and press for the season premiere. Even a party promoter in the city sent out an email blast to encourage folks to watch.

Keenan Ivory Wayans movie. These are the same geniuses that brought us that classic known as “White Chicks” and “Little Man” . Sometimes you have to look at what the actor has to work with.
