Single people meet, fun ensues

The Atlanta Film Festival kept me pretty busy but on one of the evenings I managed to squeeze in a singles event.  I got word via my Twitter pal, “Alone in Atlanta” that there was a very cool “sexy scavenger hunt” going down.   I arrived a pinch late  but as soon as I got there I was immediately impressed. First off, it was at the Chocolate Bar. You can’t go wrong there!

When I scanned the crowd I found that everyone was smiling (yes lovely Ladies smiling too) and laid back. A really great vibe!  I checked in and stuck a name badge on and headed to the counter to try a cocktail.  The organizers had everyone participate in a really fun ice breaker game.  You had no choice but to mix and mingle but it was never awkward.

I asked a couple of attendees if they enjoyed the event and everyone I spoke to said they did. The ages ranged from 25 to um my age *cough* and it seemed to mesh well.  Ms. Manson said that this was her second event like this and the first event had a perfect mix of men and women.  I noticed this night the numbers were pretty balanced as well.

I’ve been to speed dating, lock and key parties, and other mixers before but there always seemed to be something annoying about them!  This event felt totally fun, and dare I say organic and natural. Maybe it was the chocolate? Who knows!  How often do you get out to events designed specifically for singles? Does it make you uncomfortable to attend?  Have you ever gone to a singles mixer or party and met some really great prospects?

I believe you have to find ways to mix and mingle so that you don’t feel like you are in a meat market.  The best part of the Hidden Agenda event was that we had the NFL draft on the TV, the scavenger hunt, and a really sexy, fun group of singles just hanging out.  I am sure there were some matches made but that wasn’t the only focus.  It was about being out and about and positioning yourself to have a good time and maybe get some new friends out of it.  That’s win-win in my book!

If you want to get out of the house this evening, I hear there is a really nice Singles Wine Tasting event going on at the High Museum!

OMG, you are funny. I am literally cracking up. Yes, after all the fluff they put on before the actual fight, it should be around 10:30 – 11:00. I’m truly laughing because all I can think of is Mason saying to himself “sho hope she doesn’t ask what time the fight comes on. I ain’t volunteering no info. She don’t ask, it’s on and popping!” LOL

Mo, my sister’s daughter had her 6th birthday Tuesday and she got to take 5 of her friends to the Baskin Robbins 31 cent scoop day on Wednesday evening. That is the perfect thing for little kids. Sugary them up and send them home.

Ok, I have to vent real quick. We had career day today and none of the people that came talked about staying in school. All they talked about was making money and being able to count that money. Is that what career day has come too or do people not know what they do during the day?? The even more tripped out part is that the police officer didn’t talk about saying no to drugs and things like that. He talked to the kids about how he is a good guy and not a bad guy!! WTH?!?! Only in the DEC….smh

Well, depending on the school, I can see it.

When you’re presenting to kids, you have to get their attention. When I was in banking, my lead question was “who wants to know how to make a million dollars?”

That would lead into discussions about savings, personal finance, etc.

Gotta grab ‘em and hold ‘em, befo you can teach ‘em

Yellow One – Welcome!

I used to do career days and I always stressed the importance of staying in school. I also gave examples of entertainers and athletes that lost all their money because they didn’t have any business sense, so even if they planned to be a football player, they still needed to go to school so they don’t lose all their money.

Dan I agree because everyone including teachers, parents, mentors are telling them to “stay in school”, they need and want to hear what staying in school did for those that did. Especially when we have the boys slinging drugs on the corner telling them they can back big and fast dollars out of school.

All they talked about was making money and being able to count that money.
This is a mistake that I’ve seen often. People know that kids tend to have an affinity for living a flashy lifestyle. So, the approach they take is to demonstrate that an education can allow you to live that lifestyle. Adults are promoting skewed priorities, and then turn around and ask “what’s wrong with this generation?”

Yellow1 at some point after the first couple people were talking $$$, it must have become a competitive thing to talk about each career being luctative. who knows if several of them changed their intended presentation on the spot just to ‘measure up’. smh @ followers!
