Single people meet, fun ensues

The Atlanta Film Festival kept me pretty busy but on one of the evenings I managed to squeeze in a singles event.  I got word via my Twitter pal, “Alone in Atlanta” that there was a very cool “sexy scavenger hunt” going down.   I arrived a pinch late  but as soon as I got there I was immediately impressed. First off, it was at the Chocolate Bar. You can’t go wrong there!

When I scanned the crowd I found that everyone was smiling (yes lovely Ladies smiling too) and laid back. A really great vibe!  I checked in and stuck a name badge on and headed to the counter to try a cocktail.  The organizers had everyone participate in a really fun ice breaker game.  You had no choice but to mix and mingle but it was never awkward.

I asked a couple of attendees if they enjoyed the event and everyone I spoke to said they did. The ages ranged from 25 to um my age *cough* and it seemed to mesh well.  Ms. Manson said that this was her second event like this and the first event had a perfect mix of men and women.  I noticed this night the numbers were pretty balanced as well.

I’ve been to speed dating, lock and key parties, and other mixers before but there always seemed to be something annoying about them!  This event felt totally fun, and dare I say organic and natural. Maybe it was the chocolate? Who knows!  How often do you get out to events designed specifically for singles? Does it make you uncomfortable to attend?  Have you ever gone to a singles mixer or party and met some really great prospects?

I believe you have to find ways to mix and mingle so that you don’t feel like you are in a meat market.  The best part of the Hidden Agenda event was that we had the NFL draft on the TV, the scavenger hunt, and a really sexy, fun group of singles just hanging out.  I am sure there were some matches made but that wasn’t the only focus.  It was about being out and about and positioning yourself to have a good time and maybe get some new friends out of it.  That’s win-win in my book!

If you want to get out of the house this evening, I hear there is a really nice Singles Wine Tasting event going on at the High Museum!

 @ Slim — See now, even that part I could deal with… if only I could somehow digitally airbrush ol’ Billy Bob right out of the image burned into my brain…. then I would make her feel goooooooooood…..

I tried the speed dating thing once but didn’t like it. The whole setup felt too contrived plus I wasn’t crazy about the quality of females present that evening. I prefer more laid back events like outdoor festivals and cookouts where the encounters tend to be more random and natural (save the occasional attempt of matchmaking by some self-proclaimed Cupid).

Leggs – Get you some of that raw shea butter and that will help fade those scars!

I went to Charleston and got eaten alive by the bugs. Now I have chicken pox looking scars all over my arms. I’m keeping the shea butter slathered on! Sucks to be “beach ready” but have arms that looked jacked up!

Just nu nu to him him…I doubt platinum though.

That’s all….Tiki just got himself some young 23yr. old new booty. What’s even sadder is that his wife was just in the hospital and he was traipsing around town with the new piece…I’m shocked but not surprised. Just looking at all this rampant infidelity and seemingly profitable adultery makes one question marriage more than ever. Why did I call adultery profitable?….hell look around…all of these side pieces are on the come up. From giving interviews to getting $10 milli and all other sorts of undeserved notoriety they are profiting from it and I think it’s wrong. Of course they’re only getting as much attention as the media is giving them but it’s all a bunch of bull….

Gouda, I take it you have a thing for Halle. LOL

I have actually heard more than one man say that he is not all that awed by her. They say she is just your average “pretty” face and she does not carry the sex appeal of woman like Angela Basset, Pam Grier or Gabriel Union as far as AA actresses are concerned.

i’m swiss – with or without Billy Bob, i personally didn’t like how she was acting all desperate like she was feening for the D. Just wasn’t a good look to me. But being a crackhead in Jungle Fever or Losing Isaih wasn’t a good look either so i digress

?!?! Gabby ain’t in that league. But at least she doesn’t have a nose job or all that surgery like Halle and the others.

The one that I hear the most from men is Sanaa Lathan. I can see it in a way, and in another way I cant…

Sassy, I have come to believe that that there ^ is the reason most of them are even entertaining it. It’s their entry way into fame and/or fortune.

Like when it first came out about the blue dress Monica Lew and that was stained with the then POTUS dna it was evident she did wash the dress because her sole intention was to later use it as evidence. She wasn’t slobbing his knob just because.

Amazon, LOL, uh I don’t think either of us can make that decision for the man that made the comment. Evidently to him Gabby trumps Halle in sex appeal.

And as for Sanaa I have never heard her name come up in a conversation where men were talking about attractive or even cute women.

Hey Gang!

At home 2day, getting quite a bit done. Been up since 6 – already cleaned 2 bathrooms & been to the post office to mail a package. Got the yard man with the high powered equipment trimming hedges & small trees cause the regular yard boy’s little weedeater ain’t getting the job done. I explained that to him & his mom & let them know I have not put him down. They understand.

I’m like Dreams – just love to do the things I’m interested in & try new things to see if I might be interested. It’s great when you meet someone with which you have a lot in common, yet you both are able to show the other some new experiences too.

SCool, I agree with you about Halle. She’s no different than many other folks I know, she’s just in the public eye. I sorta figured things might not be kosher with her & model dude. All I’ve been seeing are pictures with her & her daughter or her by herself – without him. I wish her the best – we all deserve to be happy. I found out yesterday that my late brother’s wife got married again. My brother passed in 98. She’s a wonderful woman and I’m happy for her.

Life goes on.

Slim — The desperation & crack-headedness I can chalk up to ACTING! (said in my Jon Lovitz voice)… But the image of Billy Bob’s old wrinkly arse rubbing all up on her… nah, that I can’t get over…

Raqi — Eh, not really. I mean, she is pretty, but there are plenty other actresses I think are sexier… I do like Gabriel Union… Kerry Washington is really cute…. Oh, and okay, not an actress, but that cute conservative commentator for Fox News (I assume) that’s on Bill Maher’s show a lot… Forget her name, but I’d like to tap that — in that sort of “Pent Up, Goodie Two-Shoes Turned Superfreak” kind of way. Of course, in her case, I’d have to gag her so she couldn’t talk, but still…

But now, if Serena ever wanted her some white chocolate….

I was at the Ritz having drinks and Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan and Gabby Union were hanging out together. They are all stunning and very nice as they acknowledged us upon leaving. Melyssa Ford was there too, lurking in the background. That was random.

Carlito You’re married? Wow, I missed that one. Congratulations

I used to go to singles events. Said it many times, met a married man at speed dating. While the events were fun, I usually met guys just doing what I love to do. Most of the guys I dated in the past few years were met at a sporting event.

Amazon, IMO the only people that think like that is a person that has an agenda. I mean if you are sexing the guy because you like him you wouldn’t be not washing an article of clothing that he erupted on no matter who he may be. Who wants to hold on that unless that is the reason they are in the first place. To collect evidence.

Good Late Morning!

Yea, I’m rather young and the singles events never really interested me, but when I moved (PCS’d) to a bigger city I got into it, but ironically enough i was almost always the youngest brotha there (which semed to piss some of the older menfolk off…) getting the attention of older women…but anyways I think they are fun, because it’s an atmosphere where everyone is pretty much open, friendly (considering you come correct), and just out looking to be sociable and have a good time. I’ve met some of the coolest, laid-back, chill, most outgoing black women at singles events and one thing they ALL have in common is some good, intellectual, stimulating (read: mind-f**king)convo…they knew how to carry a conversation & that’s somethng A LOT of girls could learn from….

Swiss – Slingblade is on my list of all-time favorite movies!! Yes, Bill Bob is a fantastic actor! Did you see him in that movie with Susan Sarandon where he plays this mean coach & Sarandon is dating him? Her son comes home for a reunion or something & freaks out cause he had him as a coach and had been somewhat traumatized by him. He did NOT want his mom with coach, but he treated the mom really well. Good movie!

Yes, Jolie is kinda scary. Walking around wearing a vial of she & BIlly’s blood around her neck!

Raqi – Yes, I agree. For me personally though, I know that folks don’t always turn out the way I think they will. I’m a person that weighs all scenarios I can think of from the fairytale to the Maury.

But that’s also why I couldn’t see myself purposely entering a relationship that I know is nothing but trouble (such as an affair with a high profile married man!)
