Pick-up lines work
I did something I haven’t done in ages the other day. I used a pick-up line on a man! I couldn’t let the opportunity to flirt slip away so I had to act fast. I was at the opening gala for the Atlanta Film Festival last week when I noticed a very handsome guy. Once I saw no ring (or tan line for one!), I shimmied his way after grabbing a second glass of Pinot aka liquid courage. I said something about how he looked like a good challenge I could get into. I can’t even remember the exact words. It didn’t matter that much!
It was enough to make him chuckle and say something like, “Oh really” and we spent the next couple of minutes chatting it up. I really should pick men up more often, it’s scary at first but getting a great response is an adrenaline rush! Ladies, do you use pick up lines on men? What has worked for you? Does it bother you when men approach you with a pick up line? What if it’s a really great one?
Guys, do you ever get approached by women in public? Do they use pick up lines on you? What is the best line a woman has used on you?

@ DK — Speaking of Petty — I saw David Spade’s stand-up act back in college & that dude does an impersonation of Tom Petty that is spot on. He could easily pass for Tom Petty’s mini-me.

Infamous you are a bad bad man. I shamefully thought about you Sunday while trying on some wedge heel sandals at Nordstrom but when I crossed my legs and my husband walked back over, stooped down to crisscross and tie the straps around my ankle I quickly, quickly forgot about you. LOL

SexyCool, I watched Celebrity Apprentice last night. Two up and coming country singers Emily West and Luke Bryan were on there. Both of them can sing very well. I used to listen to 101.5 years ago. Good listening.

SexyCool, yeah I like Holly but she has been kinda bossy on there. I think it’s the Black-Mother in her. LOL
I read an article about her just Thursday. I didn’t know she and her husband Rodney had a son with autism. Just reading that article I can tell she is not only sort of bossy but she is a strong woman. She admitted in the article that she emasculated her husband in her strength. It took them getting to a bad place for her to realize what she was doing. While he appreciates her “strength” he said he needed her to let him be the man that he is.
We all have our things that we go thru. But yeah I like her on Apprentice.

SCool – Terry Ellis & Holly Robinson-Peete were on Oprah years ago and people marveled at how much they look alike! Robinson-Peete also mentioned in Essence maybe a year ago about her son having autism. I think Rodney Peete recently released a book about it too

I have an opinion, but pass no judgement on it either way. And while it seems as if we know *his* motivation, I wonder about *hers*.

You stated it as if we are some sort of pastime experiment. Some kind of inanimate object like trying on a freakin’ pair of shoes. If he met the woman and genuinely like her and they got together that’s one thing. But coming here looking for the “Black Experience” like we are some damn drug from the Motherland…go somewhere with that foolishness.
Yeah we are all that and then some, but I am just saying. Take the foolishness elsewhere. Or find a better of choice of words. They do that in Brazil, not here.

Mo, the article I read was about the book he just wrote. The article says how the book speaks of how they struggled during the time of realizing what was going on with the son.

Raqi – yeah she mentioned that in her article in Essence, that was about a year or so ago. There was couple on V-103 about a week or so ago talking about that same thing. They had a son with autism and talked about the strain it took on their marriage. They gave a statistic that of married couples with children with autism, the divorce rate is 80% or 85%.

It may have been an experiment or maybe she will be his FWB when he comes in town now. I was going to do one with a plus sized woman no matter her race. I just happened to get back with my ex girlfriend before I could find one that I liked enough to do so. Just for the plus sized experience. I have heard many stories of people exploring other options just for the experience. To each their own. I was surprised it happened as well and happy. Now that’s funny & scary all at the same time. Makes me even more glad I’m married…
And, it’s not just about race for guys, either. Actually, there are plenty of guys who never hook up outside their own race, but there’s still a lot of “firsts” to check off of that to-do list before settling down…
It’s really more about all the different things that you find appealing in some way & sampling as much as you can before you’re too old to get it…
