Are first impressions reliable?

Have you ever been out and met someone who you instantly didn’t like? The person just rubbed you the wrong way because they said or did something that turned you off.  When that person later turns out to be someone you become friends with or date, you have to wonder how reliable our first impressions really are.

So often we seem to make so many snap judgments and quick superficial scans and we actually rule a potential romance out based on this.  When you think of your best relationships or closest friendships, do you remember what you first thought about that person when you met?

Do you think your first impressions on the dating scene gets you a second look or makes people steer clear?

HAPPY MONDAY! How was your weekend? Did you have any first impressions (good or bad) this weekend?

Update: Attention music lovers! Janelle Monae is in the city! She has an album listening party and performance tonight.

Meet and Greet & Album Party: 7-8PM

Some places time just doesn’t reach…

@i’m swiss
It really trips me out because I have been places that has really had my head cloudy. I’m thinking at least most of us are on the same page in some type of fashion and cross one state or county line and its the land that time forgot. There were places in South Carolina I was nervous about even spending the night.

@Wise, I am
Tiger *grrrr* was just being a man. ladies will continue to throw the na na at the unavailable, married man. even though Tiger was responsible for this mess, so were they. now we are rewarding these tramps for destroying another family. *sigh* when will it ever stop? never, because women are attracted to the attached.

i don’t think Tiger needs counseling. he just took advantage of the situation. men don’t see anything wrong with having the wife, kids and nice home . . . and pudsy on the side. to them this should be ok.

what else is there to say about this nightmare? it’s happening all around us. married men try and get at me all the dayum time. it’s sad. but think about it. when i turn them around and send them the other way, the next chick will entertain them. smh.

yes the problem is us! cause men are hunters . . . married or not married.

Leggs – To be honest, with vitamin therapy I really think you need to have it already built up in your system for it to really be effective. I started on the Vitamin D tip back in the early fall after reading so much about it’s effect on preventing H1N1 & breast cancer. It is an immune system supporter and anti-inflammatory. I can really tell the difference since I have been taking it faithfully. I did not get a flu shot at all. I got a slight cold twice that was gone in a few days, but other than that I’ve been doing great.

My doctor put me on vitamin regimen years ago. D is part of that. I haven’t had the flu in years and haven’t gotten the shot in over 10 years.

@Dig
what would really help this situation, imo, is being more involved with your spouse. for example, Tiger’s wife should have traveled with him 80% of the time. make it a family affair. they can afford to do this.

me . . . i should have waited up for my ex to get home more, instead of going to sleep. when he came in, he loved that i was still woke with dinner waiting for him.

I agree the problem is us!

When those women learn to stop pursuing the married men, the cheating will stop.
I mean a man can’t cheat if the other parties are unwilling.

@ Dig — Dude, there are places in my hometown where I wouldn’t feel safe…

@ i am… — I will say this, as a southern boy, born & raised: I don’t think those sorts of backwards/racist attitudes are exclusive to the south. Actually, I think it’s more a rural thing than a regional thing. I’ve been to rural areas in the north & seen the exact same attitudes, just with a different accent. Maybe not quite as overt as in the south, but it’s still there…

kimmie s/o & i were just commenting about how me got through winter without so much as a sniffle. big difference from 08-09. obvious that our attention to diet & supps is paying off. these small changes become increasingly important as you get older. now i have to start working on ways to improve the lack of cartilage in my knee (or at least minimize the discomfort).

I just couldn’t handle my husband cheating on me.
I mean when you marry someone, you take vows.
You actually make a vow to GOD!!

Especially with all these diseases out there??

I am – I learned something glaringly obvious during the 2008 election – the south has always been more “out with it”, but a lot of that mess goes on in places all over the country, including the north. My SO grew up in Ohio, but to hear him, you could exchange Ohio for AL, GA, etc, made no difference.

America needs healing.

Might not always solve the problem. Sometimes depending on the spouse it could be the very problem.
@Beautiful- even if you stayed up every night waiting on him to get home, might not have changed a thing other than the bags under your eyes from sleep deprivation and making it hard for you to get a new man because you are so worn out from waiting up for the last man.

Kimmie Ohio can be alot like the south but I didn’t grow up there.
I know how it is by visiting family there.

The thing that I do appreciate the south for is that if they don’t like you , you will know immediately they don’t like you and that you aren’t welcome.

The north will front: We don’t like them but you don’t act like them so you are okay even though you all have the same hue.
Yep, this got my feelings hurt many a times growing up as a youth.

@Iam ~ my take is just the opposite. The north won’t front, but the south will. That southern hospitality isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be. While they’re offering you that nice cold glass of lemonade you don’t know how many Jane Pittman’s occurred before handing it over to you. Northerners simply won’t offer you jack to drink!!!

at swiss: you know what I do remember an incident up north that made me made as hell.

My friend who is Puerto Rican (looks white) and I were headed home from someplace and we took a wrong town and ended up in this town that was the next town over from us.
Lets say my town has 10 black people, you could say this town has -1.
And this was a town that everyone would whisper about :don’t be caught by yourself at night.

SO while we are trying to find our way home, I found a street that I new ran into my town. It was pitch black (I know sounds like a ghost story, huh) and nobody was on the rode but us.
Out of nowhere we are pulled over by the cops and interrogated.
But what burns me up more was how they thought my friend was white and after I produced a valid license, valid insurance car, they ran my tag and it came up clean, they had the nerve to ask her if she was okay (like I kidnapped her or something). I’m a female (straight one too)!!! they usually ask that question if you are a dude caught parking with a lady (don’t ask how I know)

SMH!!!!

Dreams,

They don’t need him. There are attorneys in Buckhead that are willing to take up to suit anyway. Pro bono.

So, Baker may saved the state money because he would get a salary in addition to the legal fees involved.

They don’t care about respecting him. He is running for governor this year. So, he is an adversary. This is as much about the future as it is the present. They will bill it as him going against the people’s wishes. or may go as far as calling him, Obama’s BFF

I don’t think Elin is responsible for Tiger’s actions because she didn’t make him do it.
And even is she did, he still has to take responsibility for actions.

People cheat for different reasons but if you are not there for your man (physically or mentally) when you know you can be , that lives a window of opportunity for him to wild out.
