Are first impressions reliable?

Have you ever been out and met someone who you instantly didn’t like? The person just rubbed you the wrong way because they said or did something that turned you off.  When that person later turns out to be someone you become friends with or date, you have to wonder how reliable our first impressions really are.

So often we seem to make so many snap judgments and quick superficial scans and we actually rule a potential romance out based on this.  When you think of your best relationships or closest friendships, do you remember what you first thought about that person when you met?

Do you think your first impressions on the dating scene gets you a second look or makes people steer clear?

HAPPY MONDAY! How was your weekend? Did you have any first impressions (good or bad) this weekend?

Update: Attention music lovers! Janelle Monae is in the city! She has an album listening party and performance tonight.

Meet and Greet & Album Party: 7-8PM

They are a bit too agressive on trying to enact ordinances that eliminate a group that they don’t want in the city.
I’ve heard of these ordinances. They have been particularly aggressive, and it’s been “successful”. That area right right inside the perimeter where they put the new Target shopping center used to be almost exclusively latino, but not nearly so now. They tore many of those apartments down, renovated the others, and built a brand new elementary school.

The west side of Atlanta is the last stronghold for old black money..
There are entire neighborhoods right off Bankhead that I never even knew about. Old black neighborhoods, houses with tennis courts, pools and everything.

It wasn’t an easy split. Sandy Springs tried since the late 70s to split. The lady that is the mayor of Sandy Springs fought for years to make it happen. They got their split in 2005.

I don’t see that as easy. You gotta have the right people in there.

true true Swiss Cash speaks!!!!

As a single parent looking at my situation right now (not the future)
I do not have the cash flow for 2 mortgages.
Of course that could change but I live in the moment versus future tripping.

What you and your wife did in regards to getting a short term lease is what I will be looking to do once I’m ready to sell.
You can never get in trouble for having too much money and holding onto it , right

That’s awesome you and the Mrs were both able to sell.
If I Marry someone with a house, I will be working overtime to sell my spot. Some say hold on to property and rent but sometimes that’s more trouble that it’s worth.
The formula that I’ve seen that always seems to work is buy and sell.

PG – Yeah they had been talking about it since the 70’s but wasnt until a series of events and a hard nose chicka with bad hair to get it done.. She wasnt hearing it.. No way no how was Sandy Springs gonna be apart of Fulton County anymore and since then.. Look at Johns Creek and a few more annexations that have happened over the last 10 years

However, Fulton County gets their tax money.

Splitting DeKalb would have some major implications. What part would stay DeKalb? After all, the thought is the North DeKalb has majority of the money. That affects things like Grady Hospital funding, it is run by Fulton and DeKalb. MARTA has DeKalb input and gets DeKalb money.

Splitting DeKalb isn’t likely to happen.

Dunwoody pretty much coopted the Sandy Springs model when they incorporated. There is a huge divide between north and south dekalb. The school closing that they have planned are almost exclusively in south dekalb. North dekalb residents weren’t having that, and since they have the money and clout, then that’s the way it will be.

I hope the focus can go back to when Tiger Woods was a talented golfer and not to whom he was shagging with.

I wish him the best in the Masters and if he does excel I hope every newscaster and hater will shut up about who he’s banged.

It took a republican speaker of the house & a republican governor. Sonny Perdue is the first Republican governor since the civil war. It took a lot to happen for it to go. This is his last year in office. I think that former governor Roy Barnes is running again. He may just win again.

Republicans haven’t done much with their power in the General Assembly. No property tax reform as promised. They haven’t gotten rid of the state income tax as they were talking about and be more like Florida (which has no state income tax). If you get a democratic governor, he may just fight any more of these changes.

However, Fulton County gets their tax money.
They get about 86% of their tax money, the state gets about 1%, and the city of Sandy Springs gets about 13%. That 13% used to go to the city of Atlanta.

Splitting DeKalb isn’t likely to happen.
Is Dekalb ITP considered Decatur or Atlanta?

The City of Atlanta was ahead of that water war thing. There are reservoirs that help us. There will be more made in the new park in NW Atlanta.

Main reason why there are 139 counties in Georgia….power and taxes and let’s not forget greed. I don’t forsee DeKalb County splitting anytime soon either. Annexation of some these rural counties should take place, but power will forever prevent that from happening.

Some of the ITP DeKalb is considered Atlanta. Think North Druid Hills exit. That is the first exit going north that is inside DeKalb County. Some is consider Decatur: ie Emory.

How serious is this proposal? Texas also doesn’t have state income tax, but they make up for it with property taxes. Property taxes in Texas are off the charts. Not sure if Florida is this way too.

It has been on the table for 3 years. Sounds more a like a promise so that they can keep getting elected.

Former Speaker Richardson was really behind that bill, but he got caught screwing lobbyist and tried to kill himself. So, he is no longer even in the House anymore. So, we’ll see if these tax reforms get done. Tons of time have been lost during this session in trying to get Attorney General Thurbert Baker to sue the US over the Health reform law. Then, when he refused, they have spent time trying to get resolutions to impeach AG Baker impeached. The session is almost over.

@ Dig — I dated a chic in college who was from a small town in S. GA where they actually had 2 proms — a white prom & a black prom. And this was in the early 90s. She was Filipina, so I was curious which prom she went to. She was invited to the white prom, presumably because her dad was a doctor…

Some places time just doesn’t reach…

@I am ~ the parties involved in the water waters are extremely disjointed. SEPA, the Corps of Engineers, ACF and the ACT will forever be in battle. Lake Lanier, the Basin Advisory Boards, along with how much water should be released from the various dams involved will be an ongoing battle. I know, I’ve been sitting in on the board meetings for over 13 years. Bet none of you knew that a major issue they also fight is ensuring the Alabama Sturgeon is deemed an endangered specices. I almost fell out my chair when I found what this was so many years ago.
