Heating things up

Food can be an integral part of the dating process.   At some point, we are either mingling or getting to know one another over food.  Cooking great food is also a great way to add spice (pun intended) to the regular, run of the mill date activities.

I recruited my fabulous new gal pal Chef Bren Herrera to help us navigate the joys of cooking and dating.  She is a fellow blogger who recently wrote about one of her clients thinking outside the box for a non-traditional date idea. He hired her to prepare a special meal for a special lady.  I have to say, there is something about a personal chef that can add instant wow factor to a date!

Chef Bren

I asked Chef Bren how cooking could heat things up for a non-traditional date:

1. Cooking on a date will show both guy and gal that you’re atypical and think outside the box! Who like movies and dinner dates! So, so passé! It’s 2010.

2. You can totally spoon-feed each other while “tasting” what you’re making. That makes for an intended sexy moment, without being forceful or offensive.

3. If you’re looking for a life-long mate that can cook, this is the test!! How willing are they to break out the cutting board and knives and mince garlic(which will make your breath stinky, but that’s another test of his/her real interest)? If they’re down for it, chances are they are conscious of budgeting, their health and quality time at home.

4. If the food is good, you’ve sealed the deal and a 2nd date is in order.

Well, she makes a pretty convincing argument. What do you think? Would cooking a meal prepared by the two of you not impress the socks (yes…just the socks) off of you?

Have you tried it before? What would you do if you showed up to your date’s place to find the meal waiting to be cooked.  Would you be impressed and turned on a little (Am I the only one thinking of the film 9 1/2 weeks right now? Just me? Ok.)

Would you *ahem* go with the flow and roll up your sleeves? As far as non-traditional dates go, this would definitely be outside the norm.  It would definitely be a memorable night.  I won’t forget the night younger guy brought all these ingredients to my place.  I left to run an errand and when I walked back in, I was shocked to find dinner was done. Then he fed me. No seriously, he literally cooked and fed me. You’ve got to admire those younger dudes.

Chef Bren said that a male client’s favorite dish is the spicy seared scallops in honey with a mango and cilantro relish. That sounds amazing! Do you have an amazing recipe that would be ideal for date nights? What dish do you use to impress the ladies/men?

especially good food, cooked together, is definitely a turn-on and I would not want any apprehensions about taking things there!

I’ve had some VERY HOT things happen in the kitchen, that’s all I’m saying!

@Kimmie

I like that and thats hot. And i like that sublime sexxy talk of urs..living it to the imagination..not like me! :lol:

I agree completely that u cant do food within the first few dates. When u do and the man is at ease,he brings out a bottle of wine and uall take ur feet up,watching some on the telly as u sit on the couch,just enjoying on some niblings,it wont be long be4 she is scracthing the back of his head with her lil soft hands.

Thats when u know,shes flooding down there and needs a plumber! :lol:

@Slim??

A dude cooked me dinner a few weeks ago!

that is wrong on a lot of levels and esp coz u aint defining the “dude”. :lol: Are u talking about Mr slow chameleon,who aint moufing his intent or some new dude?? If u taling Mr chameloen,then it seems hes all about bizzness and less talk! :lol:

Cmeon Slim?? u know im nosey!! :lol:

Dreams M,

nobody said anything was wrong with soul food. Soul food is good with me any day, but its just extra sexy to be cooking something besides collard greens, neckbones, mac n cheese etc……

Is South Carolina or Louisiana cooking considered soul food?

Soul food can be defined as whatever is good to your soul :)

Okay, I was really going low-key with the food this weekend but you all really have me planning some things to make now!

Lady J – Even though I am a ATL GA native, growing up we never had red velvet cake, and my mom used to bake quite frequently. In fact, that’s where I got a lot of my recipes I use. I did not even hear about red velvet until I went to college. I can bake a great one, but yeah, it’s way overrated to me too.

SCool – I’m not for cooking for or with a dude until a little further down the line too. Even though cooking/baking is my passion, it’s kind of a way I show love to my family & friends. So he’s gotta be a little special to get that.

“Are u talking about Mr slow chameleon,who aint moufing his intent or some new dude??”

Melo not the same dude. lol Mr slow chameleon is sort of around still. He’ll probably eliminate himself even though I’ve been talking to him longer than Chef Que-R-D. Mr Chameleon to me acts like Ben Stiller on that movie Along Came Polly where he has to overanalyze the risk factors for allowing himself to feel anything. That’s getting old and frustrating because a risk is taken whenever you deal with another person whether in a dating situation or a simple friendship. That’s life. Chef Que R D already told me what his intention was. lol

I’ve made chicken marsala for myself and thought it was pretty good, but it’s never been verified. lol I might defer to Carlito on this one. Besides, I’m not particularly a fan of mushrooms.

Soul food can be defined as whatever is good to your soul
PrincessNIK
I just asked because I have fam in Louisiana, and for them soul food is jambalaya, dirty rice, gumbo, red beans and rice, mirliton, etc. Btw don’t sleep on my mac and cheese…it’s “extra sexy”. ;-)

can’t forget the wine with the meals guys
Lady J The wine is never forgotten. I’m a fan of the Germans, so I like Spatlese, Auslese, Berenauslese, Trokenberenauslese, Eiswein. I do also like a nice almond cream Sherry or a good Port.
