Dangerous Curves

An interesting thing about scientific studies , they reveal a lot about human behavior while further confirming what we already see every day.  I read this article, Curvy women like a drug to men’s brains, yesterday that stated, “For the study, 14 men with the average age of 25 looked at “before” and “after” pictures of nude women who had plastic surgery to get more shapely behinds.”  Researchers concluded by the male response that, “photos of the women resulted in increased activity in the part of the brain associated with rewards.”

Well, I suppose this study has a lot a lot of merit, but any nude picture of women is bound to to cause some kind of stimuli in a man.  I found it interesting that they attributed the male’s biological response as scientific explanation of “sexual harassment, whistling to women on the street, etc.  They even said that some of this research can be used in understanding more about sexual addiction. (Insert your own famous golfer joke here).

What do you think about the research?  Do you think women should be studied to see what they’re response to the male form is?  After seeing Alvin Ailey male dancers perform, I can attest to being “mesmerized” by the physical male body.  It’s a beautiful thing. Oh yes, it is. But I digress.

What do you think this study says about how men and women perceive each others physical appearance? How does this show up in how we interact on the dating scene?  Should women play up or play down their dangerous curves if they want to attract the right kind of attention?

Honestly WiseDiva, I perceive that the folks that perform these type of studies have too much time on their hands.

Now we all know that men are visual creatures. That’s how they were created. When God made woman he made her to be visually appealing and attractive to the man. He in fact made woman for man therefore putting those curves right where they need to be. And God also said that the woman’s desire will be for the man.

Now just because the attraction is there that does not mean we are supposed to act on every whim. We are intellect creatures and we are capable of being disciplined and disciplining ourselves.

Now I better get out of the left field and stop being so deep…

good morning, i read the article that you are referencing and thought it was a good read. it’s nice to read affirming info about curves when mainstream still celebrates only size zeros, twos and fours. as a a curvy, had to take the waist in on ALL my jeans my whole life type of woman…lol…i can appreciate positive reflections on curves…b/c all this ain’t gonna fit in a toyota..haha!

That’s the problem now, too much studying, too much defining, too much explaning. It’s just plain ole nature reacting to a woman’s form and vice versa but hey who am I and what do I know? A man’s brain (in whichever head) being stimulated can’t be helped but sexual harrassment can. One is completely removed from the other. Sexual harrassment oversteps and overstates the natural inclination to look, admire adore and heck sometimes wish.

Should women play up or play down their dangerous curves if they want to attract the right kind of attention?

I think both women & men should dress in ways that are becoming to their individual body type! While I understand that a lady would not want to dress like a hoochie if she wants to attract substance, I don’t think she should dress like a nun either. Play up your most attractive features. It’s a fine line. Don’t put everything out there for the world to see, but don’t walk around in a muu muu either.

I have always had a little extra junk-in-my-trunk and have forever tried to lose weight. But lately my focus has been more on becoming more fit & healthy. I would like to go down 1 dress size. But I have this family of friends I’ve known since college, 4 girls & several female cousins. The last few times I have been around them, I notice they seem to embrace their curves. They wear clothes that enhance their curvy figures. None are overweight. They are beautiful women. I was looking at an old Sade video and remarked that her curvy female form in the dress she was wearing was lovely. So I am growing to appreciate my own curves more. And appreciate the compliments I get on it – nice compliments, not vulgar ones. I feel good that I’m attracting the “right” attention – for me.

Waist-to-hip ratio has been, in some communities (black for one), a defining feature for females, a handful of decades now, perhaps even longer.

Didn’t Mike Epps say, “Its your beauty, not your booty.” Well, he was probably lying, like most men, at least half of time.

It’s a case of science catching up, and confirming, what common knowledge on the streets.

kimmie, I agree dressing appropriately is what matters. When you put all you “stuff” out there don’t get upset when guys are jaw dropping as you pass by.

What a lot of under dressed and fabric stressed women don’t understand is a man is going to like your body because you are a woman. They are supposed to. I am not a man but I actually think they are more turned on by imaging what under that skirt or blouse than they are having it just throwed in their face.

I’ll let the men answer that.

kinderbabe, I agree about the size zeros. If you look at art, true art, where women are featured you will see the depiction of women as being slightly curvy. The hour glass shape is how a woman’s body is supposed to mainly resemble, not that of a test tube.

agree agree agree….some folks fail to know and understand, especially if you have a fairly nice build is that you can do sexy all day long with clothes on. There’s a finesse to kooking and dressing sexy and being half naked ain’t it. Half of possessing “sexi-ism” or sexiness is not attributed to what you’re not wearing but more so how you’re wearing it.

Strangely enough, very curvy women are approached more than a drop-dead gorgeous women for some reason.

Generally, single man sees a curvaceous woman walk pass them and says to himself, “Wow, I might have to go holla at her!”

10 minutes later, a strikingly fine looking female walks by, and the same man says to himself, “She is breath-taking.” And keeps walking, thinking he has no shot at her.

Kelly has naturally sexy oozing out her pores and Bey is manufactured sexy..

agaaahhhh..cough cough…..actually..agghhh..cough..

If u have to show ur stuff,it better be good, real good! (thats nu#1!)

unattractive skin and extra flesh hanging out and in plain view is a double whammy, a dangerous distraction (esp in traffic)and downright ugliness!

If cute,boooy..its a car stopper and delight!

2..we dont want to see the same daamn stuff, eve day, over and over again..it gets boring coz once we see,its on to the next one..no matter how nice and cute..sex is a drug,u know that..the more rotation in the eye..eghhhhh eghhhhhhh…

3.we do like to see ur stuff..if u dont show it glaringly/explicitly like that, ofcourse it adds the intrigue.

4 why do u think we like to go to strip clubs??…we do like to see ur stuff it but it aint legal to show it outside of those confines

5 It is not politically correct in our society for any man to be seen either gawking or moving around with a half naked babes,no matter how cute and nice her body is…if that were more widespread,i tell u no man wld object. So we (men)are going to condemn it in the strongest possible terms, esp if some “decently” dressed women are in our presence.

Privately,we lavish at a tastefully and sexxyfully toned female body when presented almost naked,in the absence of the more conservative females!

The moral of the short essay, females,u can neva go wrong with ur nice and sexxy shapely toned body and booty and curves..dressed completely or naked!

Naked better!!

Morning
The purpose of science is twofold. Study and understand the world and uninverse we live in. Use that understanding to enhance the people’s quality of life. So, while science may sometimes seem to only confirm what we already “know”, it also uses that confirmation to advance what we know. Everything deserves the attention of science. A quirky scientist decided to study mold, which led to the development of penicillin. Thousands of discoveries were a result of someone curious enough to study something that most others thought was useless.

With that said, the merits of the study are questionable. Different cultures have different standards of beauty. A woman should accentuate her beauty within the constraints of her morals. Men and women do things to attract the other sex all throughout the day, even if they don’t realize it.

I am loved (I guess.....)

When you have to see the ex for one last time , you have to look extra sexy. Extra Classy. I have on a very nice black skirt, heels, black sweater, and a multi-colored cami.Very sexy without having to reveal much.

Dudes are smart, they can tell right away whether or not you have unmentionables…so being that this will be the last time I ever see him, I might as well make him sweat, lol.

I think most people (women) know that most men get extra excited when they see women with full curves, hips and butt. Platek is disingenuous when he implies caucasian women have been duped by skinny images. They know what’s up. Like all other races or demos (if not far more than), they promote the beauty they want to be standard…sometimes to counter the facts.

I can get away with wearing short or clingy clothing without too much attention, but some women I know can’t wear anything short of a moo-moo without being ogled.

Some women got it like that. Good for them. God knew not to add that extra to me…I’d be out of control…probably walking backwards and everything…just for show.

…or maybe not, if I got too much unwanted attention.

Dreams That’s just what he told you so you would keep your clothes on oh, absolutely. Much credence to that…lol

What we’re say though (I believe I can safely say for those that agree), walking down the street showing everything you have, we know will turn heads. But that doesn’t necessarily equate to being sexy. You can wear sexy being clothed as well as being naked so why not go classy with it and give a little something to the imagination. I mean yes, if you’re with your SO in the confines of home and doing whatever is it you do, naturally being naked is so much better. I think we’re talking out and about and being able to exude sexiness without being over exposed.

“a curvaceous woman ********** a strikingly fine looking female walks by”

Atltwen, what’s the difference in the two? A curvaceous woman cannot be or is not considered strikingly fine looking?

Being curvaceous and being overweight and out of shape is not the same thing. While I know every person has their own preference I find it disheartening to know that a woman that has proportionate breast and hips measurements a couple of inches larger than her waist is not fine.
