Dating Stimulus Plan

After a gorgeous weather weekend in Atlanta, I’ve started to get excited about Spring and Summer.  I was out and about this weekend having a wonderful time in the city.  How was your weekend?

I managed to go to at least three places I have never been to before.  It is so easy to get in a rut doing the same things, going the same places, and sometimes running into the exact same crowd.

Maybe it is time to bail out our love lives with a dating stimulus plan! Something that stimulates us so that we are  excited about where we live.  This could have a great positive effect on us, I think.  I definitely wouldn’t want to strike up a conversation with a good-looking dude only to find out that he hates Atlanta, his job, and is miserable.  I’ll pass.

Even if you want to move away, you can’t deny that there are many wonderful things about our city! If you don’t take the time to find them, it’s a reflection on you and your lack of imagination and effort – not the city. I’m just saying!

What do you think you can do for your dating stimulus plan? How do you get out of a dating rut or dry spell? It would be great if we could all list at least five things to do or see.  Something totally out of the ordinary and exciting enough to shake things up.

Happy Monday everyone!

Good morning!

Maybe it is time to bail out our love lives with a dating stimulus plan! Something that stimulates us so that we are excited about where we live. Yes indeed! I too was stimulated this weekend. The weather was fabulous and all the mixing I did was on point. Going forward will be exciting as well as refreshing!!

It would be great if we could all list at least five things to do or see.

1. Go to museum a little more
2. Go to more plays
3. Go for walks and people watch
4. Pack more picnics
5. Simply get out and do just about anything with someone or alone.

Thinking about traveling I truely didn’t spend no more if I would have stayed in town and frequent the city….so I am open to more mini getaways be it ladies weekend away or a date…with that being in another location i would research the restaurants or activities for that weekend be in an afforable concert or comedy club or free indoor or outdoor activites and also just walk downtown and do nothing is priceless too….I mean getting away soothes the soul and to be with some good folk away is priceless within itself….my thoughts…of course I wouldn’t e getting away evey weekend but once a twice in a two to three month time span I am down! LOL

Hey MIA- I have not been on here in a while, but special hello to Leggs, Melo, SexyCool, Raqi, CeeMee, etc.

I am at home with a dang toothache waiting on my dentist appt and thought I would drop in. I was just having this conversation with a dear friend who has now found herself back in the dating scene after 13 years of marriage. I told her that a change in scenery would definately be a good thing. Also, trying a different spot to visit like a karaoke bar, a museum, or just anything to get out of the house, period!!! I told her, “no one will know you are single or even exist, if you don’t get out and let them see you”. My 31 Y/O sister needs to take heed to this advice as well. She thinks because she is focused on her career change to nursing, that she cannot have a social life whatsoever!!! So, not true. It is all about planning and setting limits.

The wild part is the reunion is right down the street from where my mom/stepdad live…but umm a few of us are already talking about staying at the hotel the whole weekend just for the fun of it. It does seem that other people notice your weight loss before you do but hey that’s what’s up. :)

It was a very nice performance. This is my 2nd time seeing them and I don’t remember the invisible emcee, some powerful partner dance routines or the powerful solo performances. I have heard a lot about the pizza bar, maybe I will convince my friend to go there next weekend. There are so many cool things to do/see in ATL, but again if you don’t get out, you lessen your chances of meeting some cool people.

Kayaking has been a recent influx of kayaking in Atlanta in recent years. That stretch where the river divides Cobb and Fulton. I haven’t been to Alvin Ailey this year, but it’s the same choreographer. It’s supposed to have a Black Rennaisance theme.

@ LadyJ – I was a team parent twice…score keeper too. But i never got involved in that “DaddyBall”…(that’s what they/we call over zealous parents) stuff. When you meet parents that right off the rip the first or second time you see ‘em, & they start telling you how good thier child is at that age (or any age)…just smile and say “well that’s good”…DO NOT get involved in conversations about; who’s kid is the better at 4,5,6,7,8 ect. years old athlete…they are ALL learning the fundamentals, and they will all need honing…

example: my son was great in certain positions, that he is still now playing at 10/11 years old…but he did not have the type of parent telling the coach he was better at this or that…he learned all positions, did what the coach said to do…even if get water & towels for the team…he did it….and would play whatever position the coach asked him. I never focused on ONE set of skills for him…
still learning.

How about Zip lining in Whitesburg, GA? A coworker told me about this place a few weeks ago and I plan on trying to make that a part of my Summer To Do List. However, for whatever reason, many of my AA friends are appalled that I’d want to strap myself to a cable line and zip across the forest amongst the birds and trees. I think it would be rather exhilerating.

Definitely plan on doing some wine tastings and cooking classes around town.

Will be doing more picnics this spring & summer. And eating outside on the deck more. I love dining alfresco!

Would like to take a jewelry-making workshop (this would be solo!)

Didn’t catch any concerts last year, so will definitely be doing that.

More weekend getaways.

I love the Va Highlands area and the little funky shops & eateries, so I want to hang out there a little more, take in more “artsy” stuff.

There is a ton of things to do in the ATL. You can’t be lazy about it, just be about it. Something for every budget too. A lot of it is not “obvious” stuff. You have to be a little creative and open to the many possibilities. If your SO won’t partake with you, grab a willing friend or even a child. Or have fun solo. Just do it, take the time to enjoy life more. Step out of your usual box and try to do at least one thing a week or month that you don’t usually do.

One great thing about stepping out on your own is sometimes you meet cool people that are out and about. Soon after I graduated college and got out on my own, I discovered I had to get some new hanging buddies. Not drop my old friends, just find some new ones willing to try different things on occasion. I don’t enjoy being around folks who limit themselves, complain, and criticize you for wanting to do something different. The worst thing you can say to me is “why you want to do that, AA folks DON’T do/eat/listen to that!”

I am with you on that, I was really shy up until about 11th grade and then college just turned me into a much more outgoing person, but my K-12 Friends still see me as that shy girl and because of that I don’t hang out with them as much. Same here, Princess! I am a much different person than I was in high school! One thing, my parents were strict and did not allow me to run around, so I was not “fast” like a lot of them. When I went away to college, I came into my own and I am more outgoing. I don’t dress as conservative as I had to in high school. So even now when I show a little leg or shoulders, tastefully, it’s like “Oooh, I can’t believe that’s Kim!” Honey, I’m good & grown now, I go & do & wear what I like!

If you haven’t been to any of the Playdate/Call me up/Paint by numbers events try them! Lots of fun and an easy way to get to know folks while you have a great time. After a while you will see some regulars, but there are always new folks too.

It seems that activities outside of Atlanta are as popular as those within it; I’m like that, too. Living in the ‘burbs about 30 miles outside the city limits suits me in that regard, but it’s nice to be near the things a big city is good for: jobs (#1); an excellent symphony (wish they’d play outside town more, like at the Cobb Performing Arts Center — then I’d be a lot more likely to show up, I just don’t like the hassle of going to midtown, especially at night); museums like the High, Atlanta History Center, Fernbank; plays at the Alliance (yall can keep the local theater groups).

I guess really, overall, most of what we do doesn’t involve going to the city. The city provides work, but my interests lead me elsewhere for recreation. Certainly, most people in the metro area are suburbanites like me, and are probably like-minded.

Something about nice weather that makes you revitalize and revamp your life’s status. I for one am nature girl so anything outdoors is fun. I love going to Stone Mountain park and walking around then taking in the lazer show with a basket food and drinks. I love to rent bikes and ride around Piedmont Park….Wind Down Wednesdays in Cenntenial Park or even sitting at an outdoor eatery (Grape @ Atlantic Station) and people watch and talk to get to know my date. Now we can have all types of ideas. But if our personalities stay the same you are just spinning your wheels in the mud. I for one will not only be doing Spring cleaning of my home…but of my mind and life! Dust out cobwebs in both and let in some light to make some flowers bloom! But for now….hey Atlanta…London called and it wants it’s weather back!

Ok, well my cousin and I are in the process of planning a night of “Candid conversations” where we’ll invite over a group of people over for a night of discussions on sex, relationships, marriage etc. So i’ve been gathering a myriad of several topic items for this night. Anyhoo, we want to also play some games, and I figured a Battle of the Sexes would be a fun game to break the ice with. Any of you care to help offer me some questions to ask for that game? It of course will be the men against the women being asked questions about the opposite sex, to see which gender knows the most, or THINK they know the most about the other sex.

@ Ceemeeli: The colors are turning out to look better than I thought. So far, I have been able to match everything perfectly from the table runners to the bridesmaids dresses. My family and friends are in doubt that I can pull this thing off for the $5,000 budget that I have committed to. It is simple. I plan to keep everything nice and simple. Even got ceremony and reception place for $900. I am determined to stay within my budget, we are also trying to purchase/sell our home at the same time, so it is tough.

From a few reads a while back, sounds like you are on the path to becoming a Mrs. very, verrrry soon!!!

@ Slim- I attended a party for a friend at their home and they did a conversation/gentle debate scenario like you described. It was very intriguing to hear from the guys and the honesty was so refreshing. After a few drinks of wine/liquor, it turned into a game similar to S*xual Jeporady, which was fun, too. It was kind of awkward at the end when some couples and singles left upset with each other.LOL

Dang, I completely overlooked the dating aspect of this discussion. I guess I have to be in the mood to date and open up in that area to see the benefits of my single and/or friend outings.

When single, I don’t really talk to strangers or take them seriously. When with friends, people inquire from time to time, but I usually give the standard “no thanks”. Maybe that will change by the end of the year.

Also, I don’t know what it is, but I’m in a more “less date atmosphere” mood. I want to do less dining out, dressing up and event stuff and more hanging over at such and such’s place and the like…more flip flops, shorts and ponytails…not raggedy looking…but you know.

Only someone that does not clearly have themselves together would play headgames with a woman such as myself that only treated him with kindess.

Thanks Dreams

I believe that love is right around the corner and everyday I am getting closer to having my soulmate find me.

When my son’s father and I split I made sure that I focused on me and I didn’t start dating again until 1 year and plus months.

I think God gave me what I needed from my ex (dude I just broke up with)(we had a good relationship while we were a couple) and then took him away because he has something better for me down the road.
I’m not trying to sound cocky when I say that but now that I am not in that relationship I am able to see things that clearly show he was not the best partner for me.

I am very hopeful that I will find love.
I honestly believe I will marry one day whereas before I didn’t believe it.

I also am aware of my dating patterns: I find love when I am not thinking about it.

Lots of chicks make a crucial mistake when dealing with this kind of guy. They don’t permanently cut ALL communications of any sort. A dude feels like all he needs is your attention and he can make something happen. Cut off his calls, texts, letters, emails, psychic channeling anything. lol As soon as you even crack the door, that’s all he feels he needs, even it’s not really the case. If you haven’t communicated in any way in 5 years, and you all of a sudden accept a phone call, then it gives him a glimmer of hope, and he’ll run with that.

Yep, so true so true. I have a guy that’s been emailing and calling…FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS!!! I simply continue to ignore. Well, about a week a go we hit an all time low/high (depending on how you view) and he sent 3 texts….1)Can we meet 2)We just need to talk and work things out and 3)It is important that we at least stay friends. No response is all the answer I need to give. I know the at the slightest any response in his mind would be, it’s on.

how would you proceed?

With no problem. I would at least think maybe I hit the jackpot, he’s not a man-wh*re. He could very well be, but at least there’s the possibility that he’s not.

I’m trying to get back out in the dating world being a year out of a marriage. I don’t know how to do it. I find myself almost as shy as I was in high school, and high school was a long time ago. Anyway, any cute single ladies on here want to chat? If so, let me know ;)

Hey, TwoPennies. I started to go to the range yesterday, but had two very late nights in a row on Friday and Saturday, so, I was in straight chill mode yesterday.
