Dating and Sports

It’s finally here! SuperBowl XLIV this Sunday, February 7th.  If you don’t have any plans to attend a Superbowl party, please make some! Dating and sports go together like baby and pacifiers (word to ODB).  If you happen to be a sports fan you know that watching The Game is fun, intense, frustrating, and any other emotion that gets the blood pumping.  Somehow this creates conditions conducive to flirt – trust me on this.  I’m sure there is some scientific reason for it but the important thing to remember is you can capitalize off it this weekend. Find thee way to a sports bar or superbowl party this weekend!

If you are in to sports and you meet someone who is not, a great way to get closer is showing them how much fun sports can be.  It can be a way to gauge if the person is open to new things and learning more about you.  It is always good to be upfront with people you date about how hardcore you are about sports.  Hopefully they will be understanding and won’t give you strange looks if you don’t want to make plans for Sunday afternoons.

Have you ever dated a sports fanatic?  Did you find ways to handle it?

What are you plans for the big weekend? Let us know of all the hottest parties and hot spots to watch the Superbowl on Sunday (translation: where are all the single and available people hanging out?).

Who do you think will win?

Happy Friday!

I turly love the game and don’t use it as a way to snatch a man….good convo is often sparked though during those many times I have went alone to a sports bar to watch a game….If I had to go to a venue this sunday M. list pretty much summs it up but I can’t lie my heart will always be with Dugans on Flat Shoals!!!! Hadn’t been in a long while and I use to be a true regular but I fell back and I know the same characters are still in the same spots so I am not missing much….Just thankful we are having a house party and he is Haitian descent so good food is awaiting a sistah….I bring SubWay footlongs…..:)

Morning Gang!

Dreams, looks we are on the same page this morning, with the rain & all!

I am a fanatic for my alma mater, UGA, so anytime the Bulldogs are playing ANYTHING, much less football, and I am watching, just get out of the way because you will hear some screaming! I get so emotional. UGA is a sports dynasty, with national championships not only in football, but gymnastics, tennis, you name it, we’ve won it. Sent a few tracksters to the Olympics. So it’s hard having attended UGA and not get into SOMETHING sports-related. So much fun and we love to talk trash about Tech and other rivals.

But if you are a Fl gator fan, please keep it to yourself around me.

As for the NFL, I love my Falcons, so if they are not playing, I usually don’t watch. I love college football more. But I will definitely be rooting for the Colts, because I just don’t know if I will be able to take it if the ‘Aint’s win! I watch the Superbowl for the social thing it is. Growing up with 4 brothers and a dad who loved football, I was fortunate enough to learn and understand and develop a love for the game, though. I’m not a big basketball fan.

I once dated a guy that was more fanatical about football than I. I mean, he hated going to Superbowl parties because he did not like all the noise and had to do his own analysis of each play! Needless to say, he was a drag.

I’m into playing sports, not watching them. Pro athletes are dirtbags, ain’t no way I’m patronizing that. I stopped watching pro football when they went on strike, and I’ve never gone back. The last few years I started going to baseball games again, but watch them on TV? Get real. I’ll go play a round of golf instead, even a game of slow pitch softball. Anything but sit on my butt watching professional miscreants play.

I figure that during the Super Bowl might be the best time to go buy a new TV.

Hello All.

I’m stuck watching it at 11:30 (UK time) in a hotel in Portmeirion, N. Wales. Our PM is not a football fan but I think he knows he is in for a revolt if he expencts us in the office here at the normal time Monday morning (five hour time difference). I hope Peyton (hey, he and I were both VOLS) puts it away EARLY. As far as women and SB party, are there women here? All I ever see are sheep.

I was in Dublin Ireland this last weekend…now that would have been fun…with more beer than one can even imagine in ATL. They take their drinking SERIOUSLY in Dublin. We Americans are amateurs.

Colts 34 Saints 24!!! Peyton 12 of 20…commercials.

“Pro athletes are dirtbags, ain’t no way I’m patronizing that.”

LOL Dang abc, you speaking from experience? Did you have a bad encounter with an athlete?

I have a question for everyone;

We all know that groupies (though on the bottom of the totem pole) are alive and well.

Guys:

Have any of you ever “dated” (I use that term loosely) a girl who turned out to be a groupie?

Women:

Do any of you have or had groupie girlfriends? How did you handle them?

The question came up yesterday with my brother because I asked him,

What do you do if you Girlfriend calls you like, we are going to Miami for superbowl weekend, but you KNOW she does not have game tickets?

My brother said he already knows whats about to go down so he would just kick her to the curb.

Thoughts?

Hey Melo

I’m thinking you are “spot on” as they say here about Dublin. Irish women are un(expletive deleted)beleivable. Red hair, soft skin, and turn you every way but loose. Party animals having FUNNNNNNN. Dublin is great. Thanks for the support and I’ll try to “stand up to the task” in your memory back in the ATL!!!

Good Morning.

Not being a sports fan I learned to adjust to being with one. He is not a fanatic but he does like to watch when he can.

While we were dating, and even now, I would grab a magazine, newspaper or book to read while he watch the game. Before we married he would come to the house and I sometimes to his and he would watch the game with my sons.

There were times when we would schedule our time together around the different games. That was okay. What I didn’t like was getting booted at the last minute for a game. If you know the game is going to be on and you want to watch it elsewhere don’t make plans with me just to change at the last minute.

As for superbowls I have been to a few parties. I have hosted a couple. When the guys get together to watch the game and their ladies tag along there is always someone there that is not into the sport like me and I can sit and talk with them.

But all in all when it comes to relationships and sports, or any other differences in interests, we just do something else while the other does what they like.

What do you do if you Girlfriend calls you like, we are going to Miami for superbowl weekend, but you KNOW she does not have game tickets?

M – I guess I have a different perspective, being from a big Division 1 college that went to a lot of bowl games. People would often go to the host city to partake in the parties and the atmostphere surrounding the game, but not have game tickets. I had friends that would tailgate and have tv’s set up in the parking lot, along with grills and a meal spread out. Sometimes, people would actually end up getting tickets to the game when they got there.

So just because one might want to go to Miami this weekend without tickets to the game, that does not make them a “groupie”.

Morning Folks!

Being the sports fanatic that I am, I’ve never met a guy at a Super Bowl party. Met plenty of guys tailgating or walking around the dome – but when I’m watching the game – I’m WATCHING the game. So at viewing parties, I’m into it. Initially the guys would look at me like I don’t know what I’m talking about (in this day and age, you’d think that stereotype would be extinct) – then would take offense when they found out I knew exactly what I was talking about, especially if I could tell them a thing or two.

Never dated a guy that loved football as much as me. I remember watching MNF with an ex and he was trying to make out while the game was on  I remember one time he was kissing me and I broke away when I heard a play

This weekend – we’ve been invited to a party, but I think we’re going to keep it low-key and go over my BFF’s house to watch it on the big screen. It’s his friend that’s throwing the party and I don’t think he’s hyped about going. I’ll let him decide – either way, I have to be on the way home at half-time.

Child please…lol

You know damn well why these chicks going to superbowl weekend. They trying to catch a baller or at least “hang” with one. Alot of women have these athlete fantasies and dont even like football. Ask them what a hook and go is…they think its hanging in a limo and when dude gets finished, getting kicked out on 8th and Ocean drive…. I went to a Big 10 school so I seen how gullible these women can be.

Have you seen superbowl ticket prices? To sit in section 452 is $1,425

It works like this:

50% of the tickets go to sponsors who can distribute any way they want.
25% of the tickets go to NFL current and alumni
25% of the tickets are up for sale (general public, cities, brokers, etc)

Tazzee - GO COLTS!!!

M dot – I told you I just had a different perspective. I really could care less how much tickets to the game cost & how it’s broken down, but thanks!

Yes, I know all about groupies, but that was not/is not the crowd I hang around. I never liked athletes much, especially to date, but I had some friends that were athletes and they were cool. They were players, though, so I would not have touched them with a 10-foot pole. 2 friends I had that dated atheletes – they married them so no need to be a groupie!

If those are the type of women you or your brother deal with on the regular, then I guess if one said they were going to Miami this weekend, you have cause for concern.

M(dot) communication and how its communicated tells u whats up.

If she ur gerl and she says,”Im going to SB with my gerls, blah blah,u know, she may be on hook and go over there..so me,i wld bench that one..

But if she tells u days in advance,”hey,my gerls are talking about going to SB,u wanna come or what u think, shld i go?”..u know thats ur gerl.

Chics will try u and bring u different plays and shades as u date.If u roll,u be rolling for her as long as that relationship is on going and trust,Melo may take a nible or two unbeknown to u.
If u put ur foot down,a girl will either roll with u if she luvs u like that, coz u being the man or she will roll with her friends coz thats where her priorities are…

Either way,u arent in the dark and a spare tyre!

“If those are the type of women you or your brother deal with on the regular, then I guess if one said they were going to Miami this weekend, you have cause for concern.”

Like I said, its not a type or anything. We were discussing if your REGULAR GIRLFRIEND said she was going to superbowl weekend what would you think?

It’s the same as if your Girlfriend calls you like we are going to Jamaica for the weekend or if your boyfriend calls you like, we are going to Rio De Janeiro for carnival for the week….You know the business…

@Melo

Lol

That’s a good point. Its funny because if its a girls trip, she definately not inviting her boyfriend. Her girls are going to be like he will ruin everything and cut down on the amount of attention we will get.

I remember back in 2007 we went to Miami, and my boy J came and found out his girlfriend was coming and he thought it was going to be like a couples weekend…Yeah right…she was ducking and dodging him every minute.

I think we saw her for the total of 45 minutes within a 4 day period.

question for all you all:

for me, I like a guy that’s into sports and I kind of look at a dude sideways if he isn’t into sports expecially football.
Anyone else concur?

kimmie

February 5th, 2010
11:09 am

M – If she’s your REGULAR girlfriend and everything is on the up & up, she would have been planning that SB trip awhile ago, whether it was with her girls or a couples thing.

If it’s a spur-of-the-moment thing, then consider who you’re dealing with. If she’s the “groupie” type that would step out on you, 9 times out of 10, this sudden SB trip is not the first “groupie” outing she’s tried to pull on you.

This SB trip would be the least of your worries.

I guess it could be suspect, it just depends. I’ve known gamers who weren’t into sports, unless it was on PS3.
