Cooking for Bachelors

My mother gave me a wonderful set of cookware for Christmas. I am super excited to break them in and I mentioned this to a guy of interest. I told him I wanted to take a couple of cooking classes to find new dishes to try. Of course, he volunteered to be my very own guinea pig taste tester.

How brave of this bachelor to be willing to partake of my cooking, not knowing how good or bad it could get. I’m not sure I would do the same.  I dated a chef once, a blissful experience (in many ways) that I indulged in and netted a 5 lb gain (ok 8 lbs).  Even then, I watched him cook for other people before I gave his food a try. I don’t know if men realize how sexy women think they are when they are cooking!

I have had more “home dates” in the last few months, partly to save on going out, but getting in the kitchen together can be a great date. Turn on your ipod, get a playlist together and watch how things heat up.  When you have chemistry already, cooking together can be quite hot!

Have you ever dated someone who loved to cook for you? What was their best dish?

Are men impressed by women who cook even if the food doesn’t take like their mothers? I have to warn you, women can be sensitive about their food.  If you criticize it too harshly, it could be the last time she cooks for you for a long time!

Ladies, do you mind cooking for bachelors? Does it bother you when a man you are seeing casually makes a comment about cooking for him?

What was the best home-cooked meal you had on a date? I need some recipes! What kind of food are men really looking to have made for them by their women?

Morning,

It is the sexiest thing in the world…for a woman to cook.

Taste, skill, and technique comes later; just cook. For me the desire to feed your man is the best. More than a call or just about any other gift you could give me, cooking takes the cake.

Plus, cooking is part technique, part creativity, and part determination (if you want to master a dish). These combined skills tell me a lot about a woman.

@WD – there is no ’set’ food for any man (to each his own taste), Leggs said it the other day “master one dish”. If it ain’t nothing but mashed taters, hang you hat on that. Should you want to expand your repertoire, that’s always a good thing.

Hi Blog Family! Blogging from home today so it’s all good – I can come out & play!!

While you guys know I am a foodie, a man that can cook is sexy as H – E – Double Hockey Sticks!

Yes, Wise Diva, you are right, women are sensitive about their cooking. I know I am. I am a perfectionist and very hard on myself when it comes to my cooking as it is. I come from a long line of excellent cooks and I know what food is supposed to taste like. Folks pay me to prepare certain dishes for them. Yes, I can take constructive criticism, but to a point, from a man. Yes, I had one that beyotched about d@mn near everything I made him. He admitted that it was not that he did not like the taste, it just that it was not the same as his mothers. He was just used to how his mother seasoned things, not that it was better. Anyway, his criticism and his overall ungratefulness AND his refusal to cook anything for me even though his family raved over his cooking, was a big part of why we didn’t make it. I show love for my family & friends by cooking. Not being able to express myself in that way to him was a dealbreaker, because his attitude caused me to stop even trying to please him in that way. Plus, he was an awful mama’s boy. I can’t stand mama’s boys. There has to be a balance, and at a point you need to cut the apron strings!

My SO BBQ’s quite well and whips up a few other quick dishes. But he loves and appreciates my “gift” and shows his appreciation often!

Looks like the weather go people home this morning.

I love it when a woman cooks, especially these days and especially after having lived in LA (Cali women don’t cook). I don’t generally criticize a woman who cooks for me. I appreciate the thought and effort. But if we decide to be together she’s going to have to learn because as much as I like to cook, I’m not trying to be the only one doing it. Maybe it’s why I HATE (yes I know that’s a strong word) to go out and overspend on food at these “nice” restaurants. I don’t know how many times I’ve been sitting there thinking, ish I could have made this at home.

Mayne, that’s a great point (’nice’ restaurant v at home cooking).

Thing is, even if we make an inedible mess and have to order pizza, we did it together. Cooking can be a team building exercise.

Hey Dream Boat!

I feel you on the overspending on so-called nice restaurant food. I can sit there and almost figure out everything they used to make it and how much it would cost me. Plus, I probably can come up with ways to make it better! A good way to get other food ideas. We do get tired of eating the same thing, day & year in out. But, I do like getting out, dressing up, soaking up the ambience and having someone else do the cleanup!

Love to see a chick cook but I can throw down in the kithen.. My Mother has Lupus so when I was coming up my Sister refused to cook alone so she made me get in there with her. It turned out I enjoyed it.. It started out as little Bro helping big Sis (6 yr age diff) as a way to be helpful and led to me knowing my wa around the kitchen.. Due to my Moms Illness I also know how to grease a scalp, perm and roll hair but only the blog knows that info. Moms is the only chicks hair I will ever put rollers in or put a perm in for that matter.

I love to cook – it’s one of my Love Languages. I enjoy it. And I like to feed people. And I love guys who love to eat! Whenever I go visit my mom, I sit in the kitchen and watch (and help) her cook. I take mental notes and really treat it as a learning experience. I enjoy being cooked for but there are a lot of things I don’t eat so it can be difficult to cook for me.

@Dreams – Cali women don’t cook huh?

This blows my mind! Just like when I watch House Hunters… they walk thru the house and get to the kitchen and the wife says “Oh, I don’t care about the kitchen. I dont cook! As long as there is a microwave and take-out menus. Ha-ha-ha”

WTF? Fa’real??? And somebody married you???

Every man that I have had a relationship with loves to eat. I love to cook so including them in from time to time was no biggie.

The only relationship I was in where the guy cooked most of the time we ate together was the Nature Guy. He was an excellent cook. He should have been chef but he was too darn needy.

My husband is a really good cook but the challenge is getting him to do it. We have a deal that he cooks on Tuesdays. He has fulfilled his promise I’ll say about 80%. That’s good enough for me. And I love it when he surprises me with breakfast in bed or on the couch (LOL) some Saturday mornings. It’s not that often but I appreciate it all the same.

Despite the fact that he cooks well and would cook for himself, the times that we would spend time alone at his place I did about half of the cooking. When at my place most of it. It is evident that one of things that he looked for in a wife/woman was one that would cook for him. That he got.

Of all the guys that I have made meals for I never really had an issue with them being leery of tasting a new dish that I prepared. Even the nature guy being a much better cook than I had not problem being the tester of my attempts at some new. He was the one that got me into cooking with fresh herbs.

I like to cook many types of dishes but one thing I do like about my husband is when I am pressed for time and all else fails a nice choice cut of beef with a side of potatoes pleases him every time.

*AtlButterfli* – Missed your post from yesterday as well. You make a good point, what does happen to the women you “sport”. Again, not to be crass, but you know if you are dealing with a dude just for the physcial and a good time; now when emotions start getting involved is where it’s gets tricky. Emotional unstable because she get’s involved with a married man, I think not. He is wrong, wrong, wrong for cheating, she has found someone exciting who she wants to be around, simple as that. I could go into a lot more detail, but I think we both know it’s not needed. :)

Ok, I will try to catch up with today’s topic.. Didn’t mean to digress !!

Dreams, eating out is just not about how the food taste, it more about having someone else do the cooking, serving you and doing dishes afterwards.

I do agree that those same dishes we pay $$$ for can be done just and good or better at home, but eating out is a treat.

WTF? Fa’real??? And somebody married you???

Peach, I think the same thing when I hear married women say that!

I’m like you in that it’s one of my Love Languages. And I’m old-school – I was taught basically no man would want a woman that could not cook at least a few simple meals well. Even other old-school women I see look at women that seem to brag about how the “don’t cook” sideways. Not, “well I don’t really know how to cook well, but I’m willing to learn” , but “I don’t”. Even if your man doesn’t care if you can cook or not, what if you have children? Their sole nutrition should not come from fast food. That’s why there is so much childhood obesity now, I think.

But a dirty little secret – and this has just been MY dating experience – you’d be surprised at the number of guys that say they don’t care if a woman can cook! I always thought that was part of how you get a nice guy, but many have told me they did not care about that. And I’ve seen these guys marry women who did not know how to boil water and did not want to try to learn how! But yes, later they complain! Boggles my mind!

Like Dreams, I had to learn to cook early in the game.

My brother was a pretty fussy eater so fried and baked fish, meatloaf (just right) taught about pleasing folks. It got to the point where I was like “dude, if you hungry eat, if not, Mc’Ds is up the street”.

So these days while being mindful of other peoples sense of taste, I don’t find myself beholden to it.

Yea, im at home too. In here making country style breakfast…

For me, cooking is a passion…and I have a deep appetite for it.

I purchased a contemporary grilling book at the market, while folks were sprinting down the isles for a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread, I was in the magazine and book section…didn’t get bread or milk…funny.

Its snow on the ground and im thinking how soon can we get the grill going again!!

The one thing I hate about cooking is the clean up. That’s why I do it as I go. By the time we sit down to eat most nights the food is in serving dishes that can later be used to store leftovers and the pots and pans are clean. Loading the dishwasher and sweeping the floor afterwards is a job for the boy. If the boy is not home then the Man gets to do it.

wassup woman. good to read you. I resurfaced this week. Good to be back.

Raqi, Peach I like to eat out for the same reason as the two of you, but I also have above all the requirement that the food be GOOD. If it’s not, then everything else about the restaurant gets overshadowed. And what’s wrong with spaghetti? I make a pretty mean spaghetti (actually I like to use angel hair pasta instead). And Cali women CAN cook, I just found they’re proud to say they DON’T. lol

Kimmie, I make my own sauce but he still don’t want it. He said he spent nearly his entire college career eating spaghetti. He don’t want no part of it until his pockets forces him to have to eat it again. LOL

Funny thing is he tolerates my lasagna. It’s just another form of spaghetti but he doesn’t from on it like he does that other stuff. I also make homemade ravioli that he likes.
