Should we be thankful for dating?

Thanksgiving is the holiday that invokes gratitude and appreciation.  You can count your blessings and say what you are thankful for because it allows you to recognize what you have.  We can even appreciate the dating game, for better or for worse.

Of course it is no fun being rejected or getting dump, but a lot of our dating experiences are fun.  I would even argue that if we took the time to really think about it, there are few things we actually regret.  By the way, if this is not the case, then you may need to evaluate why you are constantly picking the wrong people. Or perhaps you are picking the right person and handling things the wrong way.

At any rate, what do you appreciate about the dating game? Which experience are you most grateful for?

If you took the time to find the lesson, which was the most important one you learned?

I think each date is like taking a little step toward the person you want, so we may as well make it a meaningful step. Do you think we should be thankful that we are single and dating?

Good Morning All

Hmmm what am I grateful for as it relates to the “dating” world….
Not really a dater, but I am thankful for my dating experience. I am thankful that I came out realizing that I’m worth so much more. I’m thankful that my family and friends stood by my in the midst of my naiveness. I’m just thankful for my story…

Without going through the trails, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today…
And that’s a helluva a woman might I say…..

GM All!

Should we be thankful that we are single and dating? Being single has allowed me to learn more about myself. Dating has allowed me to learn about others. I have had great dating experiences with very few regrets, and each date was a step toward finding the person I want AND toward being the person I want to be in a relationship.

The most important lesson I’ve learned did not come from dating, it came as a result of my divorce. Never let someone be your priority when you are only their option.

“Being single has allowed me to learn more about myself.”

I can honestly say that that statement is so true. Although it’s only been a short time. Being single allows you to reflect on everything, good or bad…..

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

I am with czBrat dating has allowed me to learn about others and being single has allowed me to learn more about me. When it is all said and done in the words of Dream those experiences have made me a helluva woman.

Also I would like to add that the dating game has allowed me to learn to share a little bit. I was never made to share for the most part growing up and that is one of my flaws. However being in a relationship has taught me how to compromise more and share just a little.

I’d say the only thing dating has allowed me to be thankful for is allowing me to determine what I don’t want out of a mate and relationship.

Thats about it…

But that word is definately part of making a realtionship work. A relationship can’t progress if everyone is working for themselves…

Things I am thankful for as it relates to dating/relationships:

1. Learning more about myself as it relates to what I like and what I don’t like.
2. Knowing what I will and will not do for love or in hopes of love
3. Experiencing some fun things…sunrises and sunsets…going some places I never thought about
4. Learning new things…preparing a new dish or learning about a new sport or something
5. Meeting new people…I have met some cool people in the dating arena and yes some ended in the FZ, but it was all worth it
6. Always having a date…it is cool knowing you have someone to escort you rather it is to the movies or to a benefit gala.
7. Making my heart smile…I am thankful for those simple loving moments that were heartwarming…although the relationship did not last I still can reflect and my heart smiles
8. Being able to share and compromise more
9. Having someone that makes me want to do better…that partner that makes me feel like I can conquer the world…my biggest cheerleader.
Knowing that I am capable of loving someone so much and knowing that I am capable of walking away when I need to without any bitterness or regrets.

Dream,

Compromise is huge for me. I was not made to share I was the baby and my interest and wants were not the same as my older siblings. At school I did not share, because I really did not play with the toys at school…I did not want to share and I knew I had better stuff at home anyway.

So I can see myself growing which is a good thing.

Hmmmm I like that list.

Another thing I am thankful for (when being in a relationship)..

Is having that person to comfort you when you are down. That person that wipes your tears when you cry. That person that brings you home your favorite food when they know you’ve had a stressful day. That person that allows you to be silly. That person that understands even when you don’t utter a word…

Professor,

I too was the youngest in my immediate family. The one that was/is spoiled. When I got into the relationship with the ex, the concept of compromise was new. I was so used to saying no let’s do this, let’s go here. I was not compromising at all. I had to learn that. I have not fully mastered it, but I’m definately learning.

I first want to state the good things about my family, since I put the bad news about them out in the world yesterday. Despite the challenges, I like that..when we’re together and everybody is content…we can watch Washington Journal then turn around and watch Kat Williams then turn around and watch The Universe. I like that they are diverse in beliefs and promote critical thinking. They are entrepreneurial and community focused. I love the best parts of them dearly.

Now…gratefulness in dating…I appreciate each for different reasons. One for being my first love and showing it without conditions…another for being my friend and ally…we don’t talk often, but when we do, it’s like he’s my brother (he will call me on my bs sometimes)…actually I can see him married (not to me of course) and want nothing but the best for him…and another for being my first (first, first) and being so gentle and patient and tender that I knew the difference when I tried out others…I literally thanked God for him after I tried the others.

One lesson I learned that I have kept with me and often reflected on is you cannot be “in one minute and out the next” I would always want to flee when things got bad…my ex taught me to stick with it

Another one,I had one ex that would lay down his feelings and talk…he taught me how to do the same in a relationship

@ EPO — It’s not just the ladies… I’m thankful for some things in my dating days, too…

I’m thankful for all the fine booty I’ve had the good fortune to sample during my man-ho days. (And even the not-so-fine-looking-but-felt-fine-with-the-lights-off booty)

I’m thankful for all the chics who gave it up on the first date.

I’m thankful for the 3-ways.

I’m thankful for PSH.

I’m thankful for good hygiene. (And for the belly-button test.)

But mostly, I’m thankful that now that I’ve put all that mess (albeit a fun mess) behind me, I’ve been blessed with the best wife any man could ever hope for. :-D

Regrets – being too optimistic even when the truth was staring me in the face. Also not speaking up on feelings soon enough.

Now on being thankful: I am thankful for my ex, who helped me to see that sometimes the argument is worth it and that you cant take back words so be careful what you say (i knew that but he reinforced it). “What is the belly button test?”

Professor — The belly-button test is the “field test” for determining a chic’s level of hygiene prior to diving in down under. A belly-button test is conducted as follows:

1) Begin kissing around the neck area, slowly working your way down to the breasts and then stomach.

2) When you get just below the belly-button, stop and take in several deep breaths through your nose.

3) Continue with the deep breath with each progressive move downward.

4) At the first hint of any foul odor: ABORT!

I have to whole heartly agree with ImPeach 9:30am post. I’m thankful that I’ve learned what I don’t want out of a man/relations before I make a final committment (marriage). I’m also thankful in dating, that I’ve been able to keep true to myself.

Two things that I’ve learned and keep in mind that I’ve learned from two of my ex’s. One, to recongize that men express their love & caring feelings in different ways. Instead of questioning it, understand it and appreciate for what it is. Second, from my very first beau, he told me to always have my man’s back.

The only regret I think I have in relationships is not ending the relationship when I knew it was time. But I’m thankful in this last relationship I have gotten better.

Hey Melo,

No one else can make them as good as I can…

According to wikipedia
When the cooked eggs have cooled, the eggs are peeled then sliced lengthwise. The yolks are removed, leaving two egg white halves with empty “cups”. The yolks are mashed and mixed with a variety of other ingredients, most often mayonnaise and mustard

“…sounds like you are being breastfed for Thanksgiving”

Hmmm… That gives me a great idea for dessert, Prof!

Me: Hey honey, what do you say I make a reverse pumpkin pie for dessert?

Mrs. Swiss: Um… well… sure — but why is it called “reverse” pumpkin pie?

Me: (Holding a can of whipped cream and a turkey baster) Because the pie is on the outside & the topping is on the inside. Now come here, pumpkin.

“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Coal-powered plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.” – Barack Obama

Depends… I typically have a tennis match Saturday mornings & Mrs. Swiss hits the gym (mmm… mmm… mmm… she is one file lil’ mama). Otherwise, it varies. Lately we had been spending pretty much all of our weekend house-hunting & now that we’ve found a place we’ve got things to handle in preparation for moving in (shopping for furniture, new washer/dryer, fridge, etc.). Of course, all that is when we are vertical. We do try to make plenty of horizontal time on weekends, too….
