Let’s face facts, people. Some of us come from families that are a little…eccentric. You have to be sure that when you bring someone home for the holidays they can actually handle seeing you in your family element.
If you are brave enough to take someone home for the holidays this week, you should warn them about what to expect. Especially if you have a wide cast of crazy characters in your family that could possibly embarrass you. Let them know what to expect!
Have you ever gone home with your date for the holidays? Did it end well? How do you know if it is a good time to bring someone around your relatives? May I suggest you watch Meet the Fockers for homework before bringing someone over. You can learn what to do when you meet crazy relatives of your date!
Who is the most outrageous family member that you actually worry about introducing your date to?
What are your Thanksgiving Day plans this year?

Remember, no one starts off knowing how to cook. It takes time, patience, tasting and sometimes you can just “smell” when the dish is done!
Good attitude to have.. thanx Leggs.

Reading through the different comments lead me to believe we are All related alot closer then we think lol. omg. Some of the folks discribed could be identical twins to my family members separated at birth.
You have the Loud, the un cooth, the no shame, the cocky, the nosey, the drunks, The deaf mutes(those who just look and dont utter a word,or one word reponses..You have those that give the Messy looks(a few of them)You have the trouble makers(You dont even bother to invite but manage to find out and show up) You have those that aint laid eyes on you or communicated with you in 15yrs plus(although they had your number or access to it. but have the Gall to ask for money..huh? You have those who Will instigate and Start an arguement with another relative whom was Just waiting to show out. (You have to defuse the situation imediately or it could escalate in to an all out brawl..ruining the whole evening for everyone. Usually Alcohol IS the leading factor to cause the loose tongues and dig up OLD BONES
Of course you have those that think they are Rich and So MUCH Bigger than you and constantly bragg about Material things ie house car or how much they spent on their kids clothes. Or bragg about this one and that one in college(who cares?) Or who just had a New baby. and then you have the Pleasent ones that just mesh with total strangers greeting them with a warm smile and conversation(those are the ones I wish were the only ones that Shows up! wishful thinking I suppose. but atlas!
None of this will come in to play for me as I will have a quiet thanksgiving giving dinner with all the trimmings. The guest? My 3 Purebred German Shepherds. I will cook, watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade. then Then Miracle on 34th Street the Original while i sip on Egg Nog. Now thats my idea of Thanksgiving LoL. Not inviting any guest nor or am I going to any family or friends and I have alot of both. Quiet and peaceful. Who says a person cant have a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings and give thanks to the Lord without guest? Its not like I will be lonely. My dogs will surely provide excellent company and I dont have to worry about cleaning up, defusing arguements, or someone having to much to drink. My dogs dont drink lol!

@Wonderwoman
I’ve been with S/O 3 years and have met only his father (mother deceased), sister, exchanged pleasantries with his son (phone) and his closest friends. His two grown daughters, Nah. His words “sh*t starters aka stank attitudes”. I told him I’m a big girl and can handle myself w/o going there… bottom line is he doesn’t want to deal with them. So, does it bother me? yes and no, mostly no, hell they’re grown and quite frankly I don’t do drama. To him I’m meeting and will meet only those peoples opinion’s he respects. I say all this to say that if his daughter is of an age of recognition, then you’ve probably met the person who means the most to him right now. No Pressing.

@RAQI and uall
strictly speaking,fufu is a nigerina term.
whence i beckon from,we do not eqat fufu per se altho most africans will say fufu as a generic term to mean african dish.To the purists,its wrong.
In southern africa,the(almost) equivalent as in staple food but not the same(as ingredients wise) is sadza,isichwala,nzima,ugali etc…those are terms used in south/africa..zimbabwe zambia,tanzania,kenya…
thats jus plain corn meal and water…
As for the sanchoho/puntajuga../escoriro dish u mention(im trying speak spanish)..well..CzBrat has ur answer!

Eli I’ve seen people put sugar on grits(eeew),sweet tea and kool-aid and on the flip I’ve seen some put salt on watermelon. I think alot of it’s cultural(southern culture for some) and habitual(some do it cause that’s how granny did it). It’s weird,right?…I know.

yes….
How To
corn meal and water…boil enough water in a pot
2. mix cup of cup of meal with water in seperately to make a thin paste
3. pour in the boiling water and stir contnously,bringing it to bubble/boil…
4. leave the pot top open to avoid over flow and leave on stove for about 10 minutes to cook
5. serve as breakfast….u can mix that with butter,peanut butter,some cheese if u want etc..just same way u eat grits.

For the record, I would invite my Daddy and it doesn’t matter what I served because we would talk so much and just be full emotionally from seeing each other again. I guess if I had to put something on the table I would prepare my daddy his own pot of beans and oxtails, along with the usual Thanksgiving trimmings.
