Meeting the (Crazy) Family

Let’s face facts, people. Some of us come from families that are a little…eccentric.  You have to be sure that when you bring someone home for the holidays they can actually handle seeing you in your family element.

If you are brave enough to take someone home for the holidays this week, you should warn them about what to expect.  Especially if you have a wide cast of crazy characters in your family that could possibly embarrass you.  Let them know what to expect!

Have you ever gone home with your date for the holidays? Did it end well? How do you know if it is a good time to bring someone around your relatives? May I suggest you watch Meet the Fockers for homework before bringing someone over.  You can learn what to do when you meet crazy relatives of your date!

Who is the most outrageous family member that you actually worry about introducing your date to?

What are your Thanksgiving Day plans this year?

Hello Cee. Enjoy your family, and I already know you’re thankful for quite a bit. Keep forging ahead.

@czB ~ I don’t have a recipe in terms of measurements. It’s all in my head but I’ll see what I can jot down.

LMBO @ Melo. First of all in answering your craziness, I don’t know where the Man and his fam are sleeping but me and bundle are sleeping in a hotel.

And it’s only 2 days away from home for most people so “sexx” can wait. Or be gotten out the way before you go or put on hold ’til you get back.

You ain’t gon die if you don’t get your jollies for 2 or 3 days. And folks gon be to full and stuffed to even feel like fooling around. LOL

It does a lot for a resume. Volunteerism is a true indicator of one’s character (as long as it’s not a one time thing that is).

It depends..but usually on certain types of applications(college,fraternity/sorority,certain types of jobs) volunteering is a plus and if you can tie it in with a reputable, long standing association like Hosea Feed the Hungry then that might raise an eyebrow.

I would love to love them from a distance. It’s my dad’s side of the family and you kinda get immune to it, but when you leave you find yourself saying.. Now why didn’t I say something when they said that.

You have member of your family that show a theis azzez?? Is it because the Mrs. is a different race??

Y’all talking about a “relationship resume”. Ion bother with that mess.

I mentioned it because this is my first time going (after years of “planning to”). I found a way to use a talent to help some folks. But that on me (and the blog I guess) and not something to be used to enhance my reputation in anyone else’s eyes.

Ewww, people do that?

“You have member of your family that show a theis azzez?? Is it because the Mrs. is a different race??”

@ Dream_n — I do have one cousin in particular who is about as stereotypical white-trash racist as you can get. And he has been that way since loooooong before Mrs. Swiss & I ever met. I’ve never gotten along with the guy & have made a point to have nothing to do with him since the day I left home for college 17 years ago. Any family event where his family (and potentially he) might be there, I’ve avoided ever since. Of course, now, he’s run off on his former wife (with whom he had 3 kids before marriage) and is shacking up with some other woman (with whom I understand he has another 2 kids without being married) and has no contact with his parents or siblings. Good riddance, IMO.

@Dream_n ~ I won’t forget and good luck on the yams. Also remember it’s also about the yam itself. You don’t want them mushy, but you do want them tender. Good idea, don’t tell them you cooked them. Nothing like a biased opinion! Remember, no one starts off knowing how to cook. It takes time, patience, tasting and sometimes you can just “smell” when the dish is done!

Melo – Personally I don’t care for Mac N Chz either, but It’s a very popular item on my Personal Chef and Catering menu. People can’t get enough of it. I think that it’s that everyone tries to find the best recipe for it and others love trying to eat the best.

I use about 8 cheeses in mine. And is very expensive to make…. for me and my recipe.

I’ve been making it sooooo much through catering, I don’t want it on Tday <——- thanks whoeva said that :-)

@ Raqi

“so what have they been doing for the past two years (730 days, 104 weeks) if not getting to know each other?”

Like I said, he proabably likes getting to know and hang out with this woman, but she may not be worth meeting his mom in his mind yet. To some guys, this is a big deal and they dont just bring any woman around their family and parents, etc.

I think so many people value the opinions of their families

Naaah, after two years (in fact even less than that) you should be telling your family this is who I have chosen to be with, either like it or shut up.

I see what you mean. They should be telling their families that but also sometimes guys can be unsure about a woman and maybe waiting for that certainty with her. It all depends.

Dream_n — Yup. I would hate to have to whup his a$$ over some stupid comment that he would undoubtedly make.

But avoiding he & and his family is definitely no skin off my back. The guy is just a total waste of carbon in my opinion, and while the rest of his family is not that bad, I’ve never really felt I was missing anything by not being around them.

There’s really only 1 negative affect this guy has had on me & it’s all because he looks almost exactly like Andy Murray the tennis player. Consequently, I just can’t bring myself to like Murray, even though I really like his game….
