Men Without Fear
After checking out the Professional Bull Riders’ official website, I am getting even more excited about seeing the riders in action. There is something about a man whose job is dangerous that is so, well intriguing, masculine, admirable, I could go on!
Seriously, can you imagine talking to someone about their day at work when he does something like this?
I always wonder, what motivates a man or woman to take on a dangerous career? Why do they do it and what does that mean about their seemingly fearless character?
I’ve dated a policeman and a fireman and I can remember having an ongoing uneasy feeling when they went to work. I can’t imagine living with that anxiety all the time if I were to marry into a dangerous career. Yeah, the uniforms were hot, but could I really handle all that comes with being with them?
What do you think of the men and women who work in a risky career? What about the daredevils who have some pretty dangerous hobbies? Does it take a special kind of person to date them?
Would daredevils need to seek out other people who are equally as fearless? Is that a case where opposites attract won’t apply?
Guys, what do you think about women who have dangerous careers that require they are physically strong? Could you handle it? Is she just as sexy and appealing to you as other professions?

Am I the only one who’s concerned that Wisey is bout to catch a case, be served a restraining order or sumthin?
A Fireman… mmm yeah… I think they’re the bravest and bestest. Might have to set sumthin on fire one day soon… (We can share a cell Wisey!) I admire & pray for those who serve our country but would not purposely put my heart through it. My cousin just got back from Afghanistan and that’s hard enough – I can’t imagine how the anxiety level escalates waiting & worrying for your man.

I have lost a husband before so I know the gut wrenching feeling that comes with getting ‘that’ call. It’s a feeling that I don’t wish on anyone. Not even my worst enemy.
Back when I was unattached one of my friends wanted to set me up with a really nice guy that she knew but after finding out he was fireman I chose not entertain that potential.
I know that harm or death can come by many different events, my first husband was killed driving home from work, but I just can’t see having to live everyday knowing that my spouse is putting himself in harm’s way. Occupation or not.
Mason has bungee-jumped and he has jump from a plane since we have been married, and I will tell you those were two of the most miserable days of my life. I told him if he die performing those stunts I will kill him.
My oldest son used to like watching the rodeos that would come on television every Sunday afternoon. He also liked to watch car racing.
I would cringe every time I saw those bulls throw those men off and attempt to trample them or stab him with their horns. And the same with those cars going 100’s of MPH into another rider or the wall.
I know the saying ‘you only live once’ but why purposely put yourself in a position to end your life before time.
I am thankful for those men and women who serve our country, state and city. And I know they all need love too, but I am not the one.

Peachy I bet it could probably be compared with sitting in an emergency room looking at his lifeless body being kept ‘alive’ with a machine just waiting for the doctor to tell you the obvious.
If my husband was a soldier, policeman or fireman I would live everyday of my life with that feeling. I couldn’t do it.
I’m grateful for those individuals out there doing it but I don’t want it under my roof.
And besides most soldiers that have served in a war don’t come back quite the same. Or that’s what I have been told.

I used to think that we all had a little dare devil in us until I started sharing my experiences and dreams with others and they would say, “I have never tried anything like that.” With that said, yes I am a dare devil and I have simmered down a lot, but there is still a good teaspoon full of it in me.
I never dated anyone in the military seriously. For some reason it had nothing to do with the danger, but everything to do with not wanting a long distance relationship.
Actually I have a question for the blog, but I want to think about it before I put it out there. I would hate to sound facetious.

I wouldn’t really consider bull-riding or other dare-devil type activities to be a sign of courage so much as a sign of an adrenaline junkie. Military, firefighters, police, etc., yes. Bull-riding, sky-diving, race car driving, not so much.
Now, when you’re single, do whatever floats your boat, but personally, I would say that continuing to participate in dangerous recreational activities when you have a family counting on you being around is pretty selfish. The only reason I would ever intentionally put myself in harm’s way at this point would be to protect Mrs. Swiss (or any little swiss’s, if/when we have them). We’re a team & she’s counting on me being around, just like I’m counting on her being there for me for many years to come.

Now my feelings that stem from a past experience does not mean I don’t like a man that take risk. Heck if that was the case I would not be with the one I am with. He is a business owner and he takes risk every day.
I just don’t like him throwing himself into mid air like he got some angels waiting to catch him.
We have done some things that I would call adventurous. I have snorkeled, parasailed and rock climb on a
small mountainlarge hill. When he goes down to his brothers they will get out the four wheelers and jump dirt mounds and race thru the woods and all that dirty man stuff. I have watched him surf several times. All that is enough manly stuff to watch for me to get my heat rising. LOLI need my husband here with me and my kids need their father.

Morning All,
For some reason I admire the policemen, firemen, & military men/women. I see those as a duty to serve others, their community, thier country. But the bull-rider or other dare-devil “jobs” I see as somewhat unneccessary. I mean really why are they potential putting their lives at risk? Will it save a life, protect us? I don’t know, I was never really one into those sports that are life threatin, without purpose.
And yes a man in a uniform is such the turn, a weak at the knees when I see my fireman in his uniform! But really I admire the men and women that put their uniforms on and decide they will serve and proctect. I think it takes a lot of guts, combined with being able to think on their feet, and somewhat of a fearless ‘tude. I think thier brave!

Swiss that is true. In anger I called my husband a selfish pryck when I found out he went skydiving. I understand that is something he wanted to do for a long time and when the opportunity presented itself he did it. But his desire to fell that rush made him not consider how I worry about him.
He said he was only doing it once and getting it out of his system, yet still tried to tell me I was being paranoid and putting myself thru a worrying fit.
I reminded him of how he took my coffee maker and hid it when he found out my doctor said I had to stop drinking coffee. He exact words were “I will not be dying on his watch”.
After reminding him of his statement he promised he would not put me thru that type of anguish again. LOL

I equate the rodeo with the circus or even a carnival. It takes a certain character to be able to withstand that kind of lifestyle, and being a ‘daredevil’ doesn’t have much to do with it. Cops, firemen? I’ve no use for them, personally.

i’m not much of a risk taker, unless my driving counts
i do have several law enforcement officers in my immediate fam so i guess i’ve been conditioned to accept those career choices without worry from a very early age. i wouldn’t have a problem dating a man with a risky job, but i’ve just always ended up with corporate guys.

Raqi – my ex hubby went sky diving too. He is the type that really fears nothing. I didnt go with him, but after it was over he was like “it was okay, not as exciting as I though”. I dont remember being terrified but I couldnt believe he actually did it.
I have never dated anyone that had a ‘risky’ profession so honestly I dont know how I’d feel. As far as military men, I mostly agree with Professor. I dont WANT to do a long distance relationship. I also was very turned off of Navy men in college (apologies to anyone who is Navy) they didnt give a great representation at all!

my last relationship was with a fireman. i would agree it takes a special woman to be with men in the “risk your life for others” business…and firemen KNOW they are hot..especially in their uniform. just be careful when dealing with folks who see death/destruction everyday..it does something not good to their mentals.

I admire and applaud all those that risks their lives so we can be safe. Personally, I can’t live on the precipice known as anxiety dating a daredevil. The constant adrenaline rush they need scares me. It takes a strong woman to be able to deal with a fireman, police officer or even a judge (family members can get crazy). I’m glad there are men and women who can, because everyone needs to be loved.

With the level of violence that is in our society I think the probability of being hurt or killed is greater on the street today than suffering harm through one of these so called ‘dangerous’ activities. Considering that fact I don’t rule firefighters, policeman, military men, etc. out of the dating pool. Most men don’t even venture into those types of professions unless they have a true passion for it.

mytw- He is a good friend, that I’ve only seen pics of him in his uniform. I don’t think my admiration would change for him. If a man likes his job, I will support him, whether he puts his life in danger or not. I would be doin a lot of prayin though!!
Also for those dangerous jobs like policemen, firemen, and military, think about what they go through, the death, the crime, and destruction the see. They probably bring that work home, and have to deal with mental aspects of their jobs.

I was just going to say that life is full of risk. Just walking out your door, going to work on a Tuesday morning and driving down the street can be dangerous.
So, while I don’t necessarily go out adventure seeking, I am aware of the possibility that my accountant may not come home at the end of the day because of some random shooter, some angry ex-employee or some non-driving nut.
That awareness does not cause me to live in fear. Instead, it makes me appreciate each day, each moment, each kiss, each touch because it could be my last. I take none of it for granted. Gratitude is the theme of my life.
However, when we’re not having a good day…….well, you know…but still….

@Professor – I went to that money vacuum place a.k.a. “Toys R Us” already to shop w/o crazies being mean!…and I got all the lil ones out of the way toys and games. They also got shoes from Payless during the Oprah promotion…so i’m done with clothes/shop for them. I have boxes of boots, scarves n’ gloves, Hello Kitty karaoke, HK CDBoombox, High School Musical blanket, HSM purse, Brazts, Disney Cars stuff, Board Games, Wii Games…just “stuff” all over my closet and storage.
I’m just glad my SO cain’t see the “damage” i’ve done before Black Friday…
I got my co-workers covered already too. I don’t like holiday mayhem…Thanksgiving is what i relish.

Raqi Same here…I have read the horror stories of groupies waiting around the hotels. I know this guy that used to drive a tour bus for a major rock band and he talks about the young ladies beautiful in there 20s (he is about 50 with a beer belly and he is hairy) flashing him and saying I will do anything you want as long as you get me on that bus to meet the band. So if the bus driver is getting propositioned just imagine the “real stars.”

Good Morning All!
I am with those that have an inherent fear of dating people with certain occupations. Particularly, policemen and those in the military. I personally feel that if would be difficult at best, to turn off the aggression and mindset that it requires to do those jobs. And I won’t even go into the process that I’m sure it takes to deal with the things they see in their duties. As someone mentioned earlier, the effects of it have to be lasting and alter the persons way of thinking.

Both my moms and my dad and uncles and a host of cousins were in the military while I was growing up. I even briefly considered it. (Looking back I’m gald I didn’t go because the recruiter was pushing me into a job to fill a quota as opposed to one that best fit my abilities.)
At any rate, my ex-husband was and is still military.
It was a part of my life growing up; so, dating/marrying a military dude was not a deal for me at all.
These days, I would give more thought to becoming involved with a military man because of the deployment potential.

ForReal the baby has an ear infection that seems to only bother her in the evenings, which the doctor says is quite normal. Every night for the past few days I have been up with her. I will get her to sleep and she would be back up in 20-30 minutes. I have been getting very little sleep. As long as she is up it seems to not bother her as bad.
Last night I took her downstairs and sat on the couch with her preparing to be up all night. While holding her upright against my chest she went to sleep with no problem. I got up to go upstairs she woke up. I sat back down, put her against my chest and she was back to sleep. I put my feet up on the coffee table, grabbed a blanket, and around 5am this morning I was waking up having slept all night. From about 11pm to 5am.
If that’s what I have to do until the infection is gone, that’s what I will do. She has a glider and ottoman in her room so maybe tonight we will try sleeping in there. However there is no television for me to watch my George Lopez and Rosanne reruns. LOL

U see,when the woman is prego,the man must do whats called,”cementing the baby’s immune”"
That means sexxing the woman,usually from the back,at least cpple times,few weeks be4 the lady gives birth.That nourishes the baby’s immune system,making baby stronger.
U slack on that,baby will be sick often,throat,ear,stoamck untill immune gets stronger.

Demi, ear infections is very common for babies. Most will have one before the age of one. Reoccuring ear infections are said to be linked to upper respiratory infections which my baby has had. That’s an issue that happened when she was being born that I will not go into.
But yes ear infections are very common. You know pediatricians advise only feeding babies in an upright possible because with them lying down the milk has a tendency to run back into the ears therefore possibly aiding in infections.

Cem – I was just telling one of my bff’s that my massage therapist told me to drink half my weight in water ounces per day. (Um, dude, do you know how much water that is?)
Anyway, I’ve been doing it. And of course, this week, TSA is conducting random drug tests for its employees in the bathroom that is close by. So, I’ve been having to make a trek to get to the bathroom – once a dern hour.
(That shouldn’t be a complaint since it’s got me moving more than I ordinarily would and I am trying to lose weight……but still….)

True – And I’m good with my workouts this week and have upped my fiber intake. I’m already feeling better – even though I wasn’t feeling bad. I should be down the extra 4 pounds plus another 5 in a month or so.

On topic…I have dated a police officer and it used to drive me nuts. She wasn’t a police officer when we first met, but made a career switch during the tenure of our relationship. Unfortunately, I wasn’t too happy about the career move and definitely voiced my concerns. However, she was passionate about pursuing her dreams and I eventually supported her.
