Think Outside the Box

I have pretty much been on all the traditional dates you can imagine. You know, the safe and predictable ones. I know that I am not the only one who is tired of going to dinner and a movie for a first date, am I?  I think it’s time we all shook things up a little.

Why not use the remaining weeks of 2009 to think outside the “dating” box and move out of our ridiculously safe (read: dull) comfort zones.  Let’s all make a list of the most outrageous, non-traditional, completely out of your character date activities you can think of and then go do it!

We all need to participate so we can all report back to share how great/terrifying/outrageous thinking outside the dating box really is.  We could even vote on who has the best idea and who was the bravest!

You know a great place to start? How about in a bull pen!

The Professional Bull Riders are charging in to town (har!) this weekend at the Gwinnett Center. Ladies, if you want to meet men you have to go where they have a good time. Events like this are filled to the brim with guys and yours truly will have an inside track: the hilarious and talented Flint Rasmussen.

I’m going to meet up with him on Friday for a quick interview to learn more about the sport and pick his brain on how to handle the manliest of men. I bet he could provide a lot of outside the box ideas, too, so I’ll be taking notes.

Who is up for the challenge? What kind of outside the box activity can you do with a date? What can you do that would be completely out of character for you?

What would you do if money were no object and you wanted to go the adventurous route for a date. Where would you go and what would you do?

Good afternoon blog fam! I’m lurking a little bit today.

Question for the ladies of MIA…

Would you be okay accepting a first date like Callaway Gardens or Chateau Elan? Or would it be considered too intimate of an environment for a first date with someone you may not truly know? Just curious…

This blog should ban senior citizens. Pityful! Tombout going to stip clubs. Amazing how the only old person writing went straight to a sex ‘em date. Whatever are we coming to?

KP IMO any place that is known as a “getaway” is too intimate for a first date.

boy i’m a busy lurker lol! @kp – if the person and i had been talking for a while and just hadnt been on the first date, i would def accept either as a day trip, not including an overnight stay…. chateau is very romantic but has other stuff too, so for me it would be a great blend of romantic but not so over the top to make me uncomfortable as a first date. callaway and little white house i dont find romantic as i find them fun depending on the guy, this good be a nice first date.

I used to wonder about that back in the day when I used to watch the old dating game show where they gave trips to Cancun, or Hawaii for first dates. What if you don’t like each other?

Hi KP

the nice thing about both the places you referenced is that they’re an easy day trip from the metro area. before the first date you’ve probably spent some time in phone convo, so you should be comfortable enough with each other to spend a day of walking, talking & taking advantage of all there is to do in those “intimate” settings without a required overnight stay.

Yeah Poppa that is a bit much for a first date. You don’t even know each other. Why waste that kind of money? First dates should be kept simple and light.

@ KP,

I agree with czBrat and Longtime lurker…I think it makes for a nice day trip where you can talk and have fun. IMO~if someone took me there on a first date I would not be thinking about being itimate, but I am not that kind of girl

I don’t know KP… sometimes we should start at the gas station first, and considering the cost, do i like him/her, long trip awkwardness of it all…this maybe a time…AND considering gas prices are creeping up again…a first date on a road trip is for the “special”.

Thanks for the feedback ladies!

I wonder how many men would offer such a romantic first date without subconsciously thinking about the payoff(aka ‘the cookie’)?

Melo…in your days of romancing young ladies would you offer to take a young lady to a getaway location and NOT plan for the occasion (’the cookie’)?

What about the other fellas on this blog? How many of you have been on a getaway date and found it to be great experience?

@BrokeBack ~ I think you’re mistaken…there aren’t any old people on this blog, yet along any senior citizens. Perhaps you forgot, but if you’re dating you’re sexing. No one said a “first” date, just an “out of the box” date. Perhaps you’re too young to really read with an understanding!

I know movies are trite, but hitting up the drive in is a pretty good first date. You bring all the items to make for a great evening, and end up chatting the entire time, while the movie plays in the background.

There is a such thing as certain things have to be earned. You don’t go spending all kinds of money for someone you don’t even know if you like or not. And like Cemeeli said, to be on the road that long with someone you have not gotten to know can create some stifling awkwardness.

Driving for up to hours…suppose you don’t like the same kind of music. And you gonna run out of stuff to talk about in one day.

KP?? u a christian male and married…i got a qstion for u later if the answer is affirmative.

To ur qstion,if the chic has agreed to go to a gateaway locatiion, the cookie(occasion?) needs no planning for. U plan for the good swirl in terms of the activities. The cookie is what u get as a pat on the back.
The best way to have it is not to think about it.That may cause an accident be4 u get to the destination, remeber, the chic is sitting in the car/plane,right beside u,wearing soem skimpy maybe and her leather…i mean..cleavage is tantalazing to ur horny eyes.
Dont thunk it.
Hard to do tho,esp if ur mileage is still young.

Now u a christian and married??

i can only speak for myself, but the last two relationships i was in started with lots of phone & email conversation (as well as hanging with mutual friends) before spending one-on-one time. although we didn’t do anything as ‘romantic’ as a day trip, i certainly think it would have worked out well because i wouldn’t have been hitting the road with someone i’d just met at a bar. but that’s just me :)

You stupid arse punk. Do I sound like I have grandchildren, cats or even knit! Haaaaaa, you can only hope to have as great a disposition as I when you reach my age given what I’ve gone through in my 51 years of living….yes indeed and I’m proud of every year.
