Think Outside the Box

I have pretty much been on all the traditional dates you can imagine. You know, the safe and predictable ones. I know that I am not the only one who is tired of going to dinner and a movie for a first date, am I?  I think it’s time we all shook things up a little.

Why not use the remaining weeks of 2009 to think outside the “dating” box and move out of our ridiculously safe (read: dull) comfort zones.  Let’s all make a list of the most outrageous, non-traditional, completely out of your character date activities you can think of and then go do it!

We all need to participate so we can all report back to share how great/terrifying/outrageous thinking outside the dating box really is.  We could even vote on who has the best idea and who was the bravest!

You know a great place to start? How about in a bull pen!

The Professional Bull Riders are charging in to town (har!) this weekend at the Gwinnett Center. Ladies, if you want to meet men you have to go where they have a good time. Events like this are filled to the brim with guys and yours truly will have an inside track: the hilarious and talented Flint Rasmussen.

I’m going to meet up with him on Friday for a quick interview to learn more about the sport and pick his brain on how to handle the manliest of men. I bet he could provide a lot of outside the box ideas, too, so I’ll be taking notes.

Who is up for the challenge? What kind of outside the box activity can you do with a date? What can you do that would be completely out of character for you?

What would you do if money were no object and you wanted to go the adventurous route for a date. Where would you go and what would you do?

Paintballing is fun but it sure does hurt a lot. Did anyone mention taking a dance class together….salsa, tango, etc

I would think Paint Ball would be an interesting first date.

It is a lot of fun, though. Occasionally, I would learn about the female’s competitive streak through it.

I think Strip Tonk is a great way to get to know someone. It really creates a “GETTING-TO-KNOW_YOU” atomosphere. lol

I had to come in from Lurksville for this one!

Attending local high school football/basketball games
Attend a lecture on an interesting subject at a university
Making an inspiration/goal board together – involves sharing dreams
Volunteering for Habitat
Attending a 1 mile fun run or 5K walk for charity

If money were no object: sky diving

@PoppaG, yes you’ll learn about her competitive streak and whether she has a good aim!

@SlimOne, those pellets have to hurt.

A pottery class trying to re-enact the scene from Ghost may be a first date w/o all the lust involved. Haaaa, is that possible?

There are plenty of classes in the ATL where you can get already made pottery that just needs painting. I’ve done that more on first dates than actually molding and playing in clay.

what do yous think of taking someone to a peewee/lil league/youth soccer game as a date? something outdoors where you don’t know any of the kiddies. you get to just watch, laugh and enjoy.

it just occurred to me this is something the s/o and i should do. when we go to our teens’ games it’s intense. it would be fun to go watch the little ones just starting out and remember when the game was just a game. :)

@Cee what terrified me the most when I went paintballing were all the little kids that were probably taught to use a gun and hunt deer when they were 3 years old. They were all out there in fatigues, armor, extra ammo on their backs…it was vewy vewy scary.

Cee & Poppa i agree. we will definitely do that! i’m already looking forward to reliving the early soccer days when we just shouted “run, run! kick it!” now it’s “watch your off-sides! man-on! switch field! you got drop!”

when my son played t-ball he would sit in the outfield throwing dirt in the air just to have it rain down on him. when a player finally got a hit the whole team would chase after the ball!!

Mz Leggs – Looks of Atlanta on Piedmont Road has some very nice items. ;-) Not inexpensive but they have sales every few months.

Botanical Gardens, Callaway/Little White House, Indian Springs, cooking class, wine tasting, salsa lessons, skiing, ice skating, gun range, house/condo tours, museum or anywhere near water would all be nice first dates for me.

If money were no object, somewhere in Bali, Tahiti, Caribbean or Africa with five stars would be my choice. May it happen soon! ;-)
