Think Outside the Box

I have pretty much been on all the traditional dates you can imagine. You know, the safe and predictable ones. I know that I am not the only one who is tired of going to dinner and a movie for a first date, am I?  I think it’s time we all shook things up a little.

Why not use the remaining weeks of 2009 to think outside the “dating” box and move out of our ridiculously safe (read: dull) comfort zones.  Let’s all make a list of the most outrageous, non-traditional, completely out of your character date activities you can think of and then go do it!

We all need to participate so we can all report back to share how great/terrifying/outrageous thinking outside the dating box really is.  We could even vote on who has the best idea and who was the bravest!

You know a great place to start? How about in a bull pen!

The Professional Bull Riders are charging in to town (har!) this weekend at the Gwinnett Center. Ladies, if you want to meet men you have to go where they have a good time. Events like this are filled to the brim with guys and yours truly will have an inside track: the hilarious and talented Flint Rasmussen.

I’m going to meet up with him on Friday for a quick interview to learn more about the sport and pick his brain on how to handle the manliest of men. I bet he could provide a lot of outside the box ideas, too, so I’ll be taking notes.

Who is up for the challenge? What kind of outside the box activity can you do with a date? What can you do that would be completely out of character for you?

What would you do if money were no object and you wanted to go the adventurous route for a date. Where would you go and what would you do?

Two things off the top of my head:
- Gun range
- Hockey game (I know this isn’t that outside the box, but this isn’t the first sporting event most brown people think of attending)

As far as money being no object, I’ll have to get back to you on that one… I do know that it involves a helicopter ride :D

Good topic WD… looking forward to some neat-o ideas :)

Good Morning…

I’m giving Peach the  face because there are a lot of ‘browns’ at hockey games gurl! lol…

Oh and helicopter rides are for real, too. I was only 17 though and with a class.

Hmmm…if’ i had to choose a date where money wasn’t an issue…i’m thinking something that would include the Serengeti, and a van…hahaha…:)…jus sayin…i’m an adventure queen.

Good morning.

I realize more and more women are comfortable doing this, but I think a date to a strip joint can prove to be adventurous. Heck you might even inquire where the girls shop for their outfits. When you get back home with your SO you can incorporate some of the moves you memorized. Just a thought!

One idea for an adventurous date could be whitewater rafting. You could ride on the Ocoee River in Tennessee, just 2 hours north of Atlanta. While it’s not out of the box for me because I really enjoy the activity, it would be non-conventional for a date. But of course, it’d have to be with a woman who wouldn’t mind getting her hair wet… :)

~ a skybox at the Superbowl
~ surfing lesson taught by Adam Durant in Hawaii
~ a round of golf with Tiger Woods
~ a tennis lesson with Venus and Serena

1st volcano air tour (Maui)
2nd casino in Nice
3rd Buddha Bar in Paris to listen to Claude Challe

If money was no issue, I would charter a private jet to fly us to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe where we will take a power boat ride thru the falls, then have a nice picnic at the point that gives the most awesome view, then fly back home.

@ImAPeach ~ LOL. When I went to Strokers I wanted one of the skimpy outfits one of the ladies had on. She told me wear she purchased it, but I have since forgot what she told me.

@Raqi ~ that’s a spot I want to visit. That date is right up my alley, but not my pocketbook.

Hola Happy People,

Hmmm I will comeback later because I cannot do the daydreaming and wishing upon a star.

I have done quite a bit of things that are not out of the character for me, but others seem impressed by those things. In fact I feel an adventure coming on in the next few weeks sometimes I have to get out of Atlanta.

Oh yea, I am one of those “brown” folks at the hockey games.

Hey mqew! For a woman that has never been, I would think it may be adventurous (to cope with the new and unknown). Some women are not comfortable with another woman gyrating in front of them and their man.

If money wasn’t an object, I would like to be on the beach with a private chef cooking us seafood, serving us wine and fruit, dismissing him when we are finished eating and then taking matters into my own hands.

@Professor I love going to hockey games. I have a blast with a big ole cup of hot chocolate!

I once enjoyed a game of drinking putt-putt. Just transferred my dranky drank to a fast food cup & had a ball.

Gun range is a good idea….white water rafting…helicopter ride…just anything interactive is always cool.

As to everyday working folk budget, outside the box dates could be:

~ Hiking the Silver Comet Trail
~ Indoor Rock Climbing
~ Workout Boot Camp
~ Couples Massage
~ Cooking Class
~ Pottery Making

Dating is about INTERACTION so why guys still take girls to movies in the beginning is crazy because you really cant interact in a movie.

There are a ton of good out of box activities in Atlanta. I have brought dates to my bartending class which was a good and fun interactive activity.

Some good activities are:

1. Arrange for a flying lesson at Dekalb-Peachtree Airport. It takes alot of guts to go flying in such a small plane but shows adventure.

2. Explore a day in a city that is close by, drive to Birmingham, Charlotte, Savannah, etc and just wander around.

3. Take a cooking class together in a totally different cuisine (learn some cuban, japanese, brazilian, food).

4. Meet for a power lunch doing the work week. Take a couple hours to just hang out during the day to change up the pace before you go back to work.

5. Have a game party at your home with just you two. Tailgate watch the game and just enjoy the game if you have 2 sports people.

Hope these spark some interests!

Boat rides are always nice… especially if dinner is prepared. Some nice soothing music is playing in the background and the fresh air is coming through the windows, while you eat a romantic candlelight dinner. Just the two of you.

I don’t know about the Silver Comet Trail. J/K

I like the cooking class together. That reminds me of a show I flipped to. Think it was called “Parent Control.” The new date (female) took their son on a cooking date. She nearly burnt down the kitchen making eggrolls. I was laughing hysterically when all the fire trucks pulled up and they were sitting on the curb outside the restaurant looking foolish!

Or since Christmas is coming around.. “for those who are in steady relationships” You can try a different approach besides buying the parents a gift. You guys can plan a day to make your own gifts together for your mom/dad. Something personal. It can allow you guys to go down memory lane and it can be quite intimate.

@Dream_n- 9 days til turkey day-You are right. You get light conversatio and get to enjoy the experience.

@mqew-Flying lessons arent super expensive and I think it will be a memorable date.

Also a good idea but it would depend on the spontaneousness, but just on a saturday, take a 1 day trip somewhere just to have dinner. Go to Airtran, book a cheap flight to somewhere close, and try a new restaurant neither of you have ever been to and just come back later. I know alot of people would be fearful to try that.

Chateau Elan is a great out-of-the-ordinary date. Hike the trail, take the cooking class and/or unwind to live music at L’Auberge (sp). They also offer wine tasting and tours of the vinyard. But if I could splurge, I’d like to try Napa or Sonoma next time.

If money were no object we would definitely do the private beach thing, and perhaps a safari tour of the NgoroNgoro crater.

Morning Err’body!

I’ve done the batting cage, bowling, roller skating, a picnic, six flags (me & ex hubby went there), driven to Tennessee for the day

I would like to:

Go to a football game out of state (i.e the Dallas cowboys game would have been great)

Go for a helicopter ride (though I am petrified of heights)

Take a cooking class together

Horseback riding

If money were no object: go to Greece, go to the largest mall in the US to shop, Turks & Caicos (or anywhere with a great beach), have a private concert
