Sometimes I marvel at the fact that we singles even manage to make it to the first date. Some of us get up hung up in the approach, showing interest, and determining compatibility part that comes with dating. I think a lot of times we take it way too seriously, pretty much sucking the fun part out of the whole process.
Keeping it simple is virtually impossible. I know women have a tendency to complicate matters when they shouldn’t be, but I have met and dated men who do the same thing. Is it so hard to play it cool until things develop?
There is nothing wrong with being excited about spotting someone you want to get to know more. However, acting desperately can be a real turn off. Nobody likes it when people come on too strong. How do you handle it when someone is a little over the top in pursuing you? Do you find it flattering, annoying, or are you confused by it?
If someone you are interested in seems to be playing it cool, do you take it as a sing of disinterest and back off altogether? Have you ever met someone who was giving you that oh so lovely “mixed signals” making it difficult to determine what they want?

Good Morning All,
Yes I find the playing it cool stuff to be a sign of disinterest. To quote a old song ” If you want me say it, if you trust me, do it, if you need me, prove it.” Doesn’t mean you have to stalk me..because I do believe there is a delicate balance between active interest and stalking. So I find the over the top guys a bit untrustworthy. But Mr. Cool and Aloof..ugh!!
Look just say how you feel, cut the crap and lets get this show on the road.

Kym – I’s feelin’ mighty fine this morning as well.
So yea, I give all due and respect to a person that is honest with their feelings from jump.
Desperate Domanisha, and Stalker Shelton are on a different mental though…gotta watch out for their antics.
off topic – only one of my team won in the NFL this weekend, The Colts and Patriots game…. College ball was good…LSU won, and Alabama sluaghtered Mississipi St!

Cool…or cautious? I dislike cool when the guy is trying to show off or impress quickly by saying who he knows, where he goes, and what he does. But cautious is more about revealing bits of information to see if there is chemistry, interest, compatibility

@ BSanwich – Do you feel the constant need to be around that person? Are you not alright doing your own thang when not around him/her? Need to “call in” all the time?
If you have codependency issues your SO already know this.

Its a catch 22 for guys because if he comes across too interested, then he looks desperate in her eyes and that will be a turn off. If is comes across disinterested, he will be benched by her in a sense because she wants to be pursued and it comes across as if he is not trying to put in the effort to pursue her.
To me when a woman is over the top and laying it on thick with the text messages, emails, and phone calls, it comes off a little confusing/annoying. You dont really know me yet, so the best thing you can do is show interests and let things develop rather than force the issue.

@ BSandwich – I’ll add that being consistent, and considerate, and nice to him/her by nature is not being “clingy” per se…I guess it’s akin to a drink/alcohol…the difference lies in the quantity.

Dating or even trying to get to know someone shouldn’t be so difficult b/c it’s hardly Chinese arithmitic…although some think this piques ones interest in them, playing games is just as it sounds…juvenile and I’m too grown for that.

And there you have it folks.
We’re not kids anymore. It’s fine to be cautious until you develop a comfort level with a person. But, all this pussyfootin’ around (especially if you’re over 30), game playing, being difficult, and acting like your life is a mystery that will unfold in time is just too daayuum much.
Tomorrow is not promised. If you like someone or even love someone tell them. Show them…today. If it doesn’t work out just learn the lesson and move on. At least you lived the moment.

Someone playing it too cool is a turn off. If I don’t excite you, then whatdahell are you trying to be around me for? And if I’m not allowed to show my interest in getting to know you then you’re not for me anyway.
Those kinds of games are what make dating a trial and a turn off but the ever necessary evil to getting boo’d up (Nod to Page.)

You’re either feeling it or you’re not. If they’re feeling it and you’re not, then they get labeled as coming on too strong. Just give them a break and cut them loose. If the situation were reversed, wouldn’t you appreciate them being that straightforward?
Don’t “play it cool”. Just be honest, and be yourself. Pursue whatever it is that you want. If they don’t respond, and they won’t be honest with you about it, then oh well. Better luck next time. If they are honest with you about it, then thank them for that, and then move on.

All this time, I’ve been assuming that guys who were being distant with me were not interested in me. I have never considered that they may have been “playing it cool”…if they were interested in me, too late.
Guys aren’t usually (excluding select metro areas of Atlanta) as expressive as women, but I think they are good at showing you how they feel. Distant=not interested. Not calling=doesn’t want to call you. Him saying, “I don’t want to be in a relationship”=I don’t want to be in a relationship with you. Hanging around my house at weird times of the day=I need to buy a gun cuz this fool just might be crazy…seriously dude, are you stalking me?! No means no.

Thats the thing about repo’in you have to be ready for that and know that people are gonna go nutso about losing their ride.. I’ve had dogs sicked on me, got into a fist fight and had to pull that thang a couple times to keep the peace.. Now first rule of thumb.. If you dont want us to get your car just put any piece of your property behind it.. My youngest son thinks he has masterminded the perfect scheme to get two of whatever, or to be in one place when he does not want to be in the other. While I allow him to think that, I just don’t want to deal with it all. No need to.
He has never been the type where he wanted his father and myself celebrating whatever holiday together. And even if he was I wouldn’t do it.
Even with the oldest, when he was at home if he wanted to spend the holiday at his grandmother’s he was welcomed to do so. I attended a few events before the nuptials, but now I don’t. Not to mention the knucklehead is his own man now to go wherever he chooses.

Infamous Almost 7 years ago after my mom died all of my family moved up north. My dad, my brother and my sister. My oldest brother was already living there. I would fly up there sometimes or they would come here, but for the most part it was just me and my boys and then my closest friends became my family. My first mother-in-law lives here and she took my second to be her grandson. When they both went over to her house for the holiday I went. But there were times, which were rare occasions back then that the youngest son’s father would take him to his house for the holiday. When that would happen I stayed home or went to a friend’s gathering.
After Mason and I became a couple I did not spend as much time as I did before at the in-laws however I never will prevent either of my sons from going there as much as they please. I began to spend time with Mase and he family or our mutual friends.
Now when our out of state families comes to town he and I are usually the hosts. But it was never about me being part of the family when I would go to the grandmother’s. I would be there because I was taking the boys there.

this is the first time i’m with a serious s/o since my divorce 8 yrs ago. i’ve come to REALLY enjoy the holidays with my family because when i was married we always spent the holidays with the in-laws, and i’m finding it very difficult to ’share’ that time between households (especially since we’re talking about a 90-minute commute between the two)
is it selfish of me to suggest that he do his own thing and i’ll do mine? i know he wants us together, but i’m having a hard time with this one.

czBrat actually that’s a very common question that I have heard folks ask many times. My oldest friend Doc says before she had kids she and her husband would spend Christmas apart because their families lived on two separate coasts. She said they did it before they got married and continued to do it up until she had her first child.
After the kids they now alternate. If the go to his family for Thanksgiving this year, they will go to hers for Christmas. And then next year they will switch it around. Sometimes the just stay home. It seems to be working great for them .

Are u planning on getting married,Again??
If u are, this may be an opportunity to scope out his fam,see how they wiredetc. 90 minute comute aint that long. They may be crazies etc and u want to see how that may or may not impact u,assuming u get married to him.

There’s aunts and uncles at one of the places I have to go to and they have over 25 kids between the 9 of them. The kids range in age 5 up to 18. And they always want to play with my daughter’s hair asking why we talk “white” lol. I shake my head at them. Then you have the different BM’s and BD’s coming over side eyeing eachother trying to out do eachother or be in competition with eachother to see who is closer to the family…. It’s beautiful to be with the family, but I leave with a headache.

Cemeeli my marido has an uncle that I have only met once but I kind of feel sorry for. He is up in age but he cannot figure out why he is always late to the family gatherings. He doesn’t know that they give him the wrong time to meet at the house on purpose. The marido says that this uncle always insist on saying the prayer before eating and with him being an elderly man no one is going to tell him that he can’t. And even when they tried once he still got a few words in. But the problem is he tends to pray too long. Way too long. My marido said that once the uncle prayed for almost 20 minutes. And in saying the prayer he prays for everybody. Which sounds nice but in praying for everybody he tends to tell everyone’s business that has come across his ear.
He prayed that the Lord help the confused (= Gay) cousin, the illegitimate nephew, the niece that cheated on her husband, the grandson the filed bankruptcy and all kinds of stuff. Stuff that people haven’t told some others about. He in his own way is doing a good service but anyone that gets outted doesn’t feel that way. LOL

Leggs I can see that. I see my baby brother the most because he comes down several times a year. I talk to my father maybe twice a week. There is no grave dislike between all of us but they like it up there and I like it down here.
As I stated earlier, once they all left and went north my friends became my family. I do more with them than my actual family. But it’s all good.
My sister is supposed to be coming at Christmas. It will be nice to she her but if she doesn’t come it will be okay too. I haven’t seen my oldest brother in almost 4 years. We talk maybe twice a month just to check on each other. However he is my goto when I need some “people” advice.
You all have a good evening. Bundle up in the morning, it’s supposed to be a cold one.

I do not like seeing little girls with all those beads in their hair. Just something I never liked and always wondered how they slept with all that clanging on the pillows. 3-2 beads at the end of the braid (of her own hair) is fine.

It is difficult to overlook her when begs for what she needs and buy what she wants. The sight of her makes me SICK, so that is why we will not be in the same place…simply put she is not welcomed in my home.
I wish I was a big girl and could overlook her and have fun, but I cannot see her big, rusty azz feet sitting at my table.

I’m visualizing Cee and lil leggs running to the table to get to the yams and mac n cheese. Lil leggs definitely winning this race. Oh no, Big Cee pushed her making her trip and crash at the base of the fridge! Oh my! Big Cee not even caring just cooping up the food onto her plate!
