Get a hobby, Find a date

The very wise Lou Holtz once said, “If you’re bored with life — you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things — you don’t have enough goals.”  I happen to agree with him.

I remember my Dad would say that you can actually tell a lot about a man by where he spends most of his time and money. So if he has some over the top obsession or massive porn collection, you might want to pay attention to his habits, including their hobbies.

What kind of hobbies are you in to? How did you get started with it?  (No, dating should NOT be considered a hobby!) What do you think your habits and/or hobbies say about you?

Our friends over at The Frisky listed some hobbies that can make one appealing to the opposite sex.  I am not in favor of picking up a hobby solely to snag a mate, but I definitely love the idea of having/finding a passion for something. If  you happen to meet someone, then it’s time well spent and personal growth. Can’t beat that!

What hobbies would make you sit up and take notice and why?

Page1908 – Did some1 say “mexican food”?? LOL! Oh Im crashin! I like the crazy pens too but Im with SCool, that scrapbooking is way more work than I thought and my Adult ADD kicked in!

Professor – My original goal in life was to start my own magazine, so no, teaching wasnt on my radar (and I come from a family of educators, mom and siblings teach so go figure). Now for your niece, if she wants to teach and knows what level (primary, secondary) then tell her to go with education. If she isnt sure then she can just go with English and take some classes where she will be required to student teach (for the experience).

I don’t have a particular hobby….I have a range of things I enjoy doing. I sort of view as a part of me and what I do.

czB, Taz – I didn’t really consider any of my stuff hobbies either. I just consider it how I live my life. But then, I looked up the definition of hobby just before I posted - “An activity or interest pursued outside one’s regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure” and decided that all of those things I posted and then some apply.

Like Ms. M’ (hey Pretty lady!),

I too am right and left brained (which is why I won’t highjack my day or the blog with DK’s conspiracy theories – that’s an all day convo).

But I have to watch it sometimes, because I get into that “Beautiful Mind”- type territory if I don’t shut either or both sides down once in a while.

I’ve stated on here before, but I like cooking, writing poetry (though the muse has abandoned me), I used to draw a lot; now I’m really into photography. I just got turned onto Marilyn Minter the other day. (Up until last year I was working on the guitar, fine tuning my piano, and my Eddie Cain warblin’)

And I have time to pursue none it. I’ve got a test to take in 12 months

Given SexyC’s definition…

Can I put doing my hair in the category of a hobby???

I get great pleasure out of seeing those bouncy curls after I just finished my hair… the smell of spritz holding them in place, to give them that strength to last but also allowing for that movement as I strut to my car… !!!

@Mo

What kinda photography?

There’s the still shot (couple in the park), the nature (sun setting over farm/city – my favorite), the arty (black and white with the use of shadows), the everyday (taken photo’s of the street).

It’s really fun to just take ‘em and see what image your subconcious is building with each one.

I LOVE b&W pictures. I have three in my living room. One is of a rain puddle, the second is of clouds over a river and the third is kinda abstract – it’s the view from the bottom of an escalator.

If I had more money and more walls, I would buy more abstract art and more b&w photography.

Seriously, it’s been a while since I played the piano. I don’t think I play well enough to teach. I took lessons a few years but despised it at the time. I wish I would have stayed with it and progressed. Every now and then I’ll hop on the piano and do a little something.

DK…

You are correct in questioning our government. You argument isn’t anything new. Have you ever read the Federalist papers? It has been a concern from the beginning of the country through both the Articles of Confederation and into the Constitution.

As far as the gov’t goes. Only one branch, the legislative, was supposed to be the voice of the people. Therefore, they are the only branch in which the people truly elect its members.

The President isn’t elected by the people. President is elected through the electoral college. Remember , even with Florida, Gore got more popular votes than Bush in the 2000 election.

Of Course, the Supreme Court doesn’t have to answer to any elections. They have lifetime jobs unless they break the law or violate the Constitution. It is actually written in the Constitution as such. (Art. III)

The greatest example is this health care debate. It isn’t about looking out for americans health care. It is about protecting capitalism. If people and companies are going bankrupt over healthcare costs, it takes money from other areas of our economy. I worked in foreclosure law (representing banks) for many years. At least 1/3 of the bankruptcies and foreclosure came from one person being diagnosed with an illness and having to pay out of pocket for a lot. Most common was some form of cancer and having to pay for chemotherapy.

On another note, that KISS concert was superb. It was one the top five concerts that I’ve ever attended.

I guess that I liked it even more than normal since I was in a suite and the job paid for the tickets

I actually just started this year.. I have learned that it gives you volume and bounce. I use the hot rollers.. can’t think if the name of them, but you place them on this heated rack and attach them to your hair… you can sleep in them, clean, do aloth of stuff and if put in properly they wont fall.!!
ROLLERS GIVES BOUNCE LADIES!!!

Dream_n/Professor…I always have my hair roller set (with sometimes a dry wrap) unless I’m getting touched up. Sooo many people think that’s old fashion but it gives my hair so much volume, lift and body. My hair is lengthy so it works better for me.
