The Fall season brings cooler temps but that doesn’t have to put a damper on your dating. This is the season to kick up your creativity a couple of notches. We all know that you don’t have to break the bank to go on a date. You just have to know the likes/dislikes of the person you are dating then put in a little research.
Do yourself a favor and bookmark our Bargain Hunter blog. Rana Cash outlines all the best bargains and she recently outlined 5 cheap date ideas!
Atlanta can be such a great city to go on a date. The city has its own energy and charm that sets the scene for you. I can tell you that people are getting bored with dinner and a movie.
Let’s have a little idea swapping today and see who has the goods on creative dates.
Raqi sent me a nice category of dates to plan:
1. Best date for under $40
2. Best Morning date
3. Best date centered around a theme
4. Best outdoors date
5. Best free date
6. Most unique dinner and a movie date
What could you add to this list? How do you come up with your date ideas?
Ladies like it when a man has a plan. If you can’t plan a date, it makes a certain impression. Do you usually have a plan for a date? Would you go on a second date with someone who didn’t bother to plan the first one?

Morning children!
You know, I’m a huge fan of cheap dates – I thrive off my Entertainment Book and seeing how much we can do for nothing. But dang! Brothas have the hardest time with planning dates when they don’t have money.
I’m looking forward to the feedback related to the topic, but if you all could offer me some advice on how to get a brotha to do some dang-on research and plan a budget friendly date HIMSELF, I could really use it. Like Wise said Ladies like it when a man has a plan…
Ideas:
- Join MeetUp..com and find groups in your area. Most times the meet-ups are free and offer a wide variety of activities
- Have game night at the crib
- Go on an outing to Super H Mart. It’s an asian grocery store and they have some of the most interesting products there! (I’m a foodie so this appeals to me)
- Plan an indoor picnic solely based off of food you already have in your kitchen/pantry… who cares if nothing “matches”

Hey Peach and GM to all!
Ok Super H Market is my favorite place to go people watch and to find key ingredients for certain dishes I make.
I have some friends that host game night lots of fun!
Ok, Atlantic Station did the free movies, Piedmont Screen on the Green, Wednesday’s wind down jazz concerts that goes on in the spring at Centennial. I love people watching and dog watching at Piedmont, going to see the lighting of the Christmas tree (both Macy’s and Atlantic Station), any type of festivals such as the dogwood festival etc. Now is the time to take a short trip (one tank of gas) Anna Ruby Falls is great, and you can take a few sandwiches in the car and relax and unwind in the mist of nature.
One of my favorites when it gets a little bit colder light the fireplace and pull out some of that leftover cheese, fruit, wine and crackers and have your own private picnic.

Peach I appreciate the heads up on that Asian mart. Oh and, I like picnics too…
my friend that lives out in Johns Creek their backyard faces the golf yard, and we’ve had fun doing all sorts of “break the rules” behind the white drapes that cover the downstairs deck….and since they travel and I know the gate code…and the…anyway…a picnic near a Golf Course…
Picnic & chill in the parking lot on top of the car…(old school)
Little League football/basketball games (dirt cheap)
Got friends that live in a lofts/studio in Moreland or Downtown are…get access to the roof…they have some BEAUTIFUL views…
“Thumbs UP” is a great inexpensive morning date…good morning spot…
…and my favorite is Wii Parties! Lub…lub…lub them…

Best date for under $40:
For guys that love cars a Car Show (That was my reason for asking about car shows here in Atlanta yesterday)
Best Morning Date:
Put together a Continental picnic breakfast and find the best view to watch the sunrise.
Best Theme Date:
Maybe choosing a date that is important to your S/O or that connects the two of you and finding out important facts in history that happened on that day and center the date around those. (i.e. Places, events, meals)
Also for a theme date, you can choose your S/O hobby or maybe their ethnic or cultural makeup and choose places to go reflecting on that or cook them a meal based on their history.
Best Outdoors Date:
Camping or hiking
Building sand castle along on the beach
An outdoor concert
Fruit picking
Best Free Date:
Go to the library and read together
Go to yard sales or flea market for some interesting finds
Volunteer somewhere
Thanksgiving Day lighting of the Great Christmas Tree
Christmas parades

Unique Dinner and Movie #1:
If you don’t own one, rent or buy a projector and create your own “drive-in” movie in your own driveway or backyard. Rent a collection of DVD’s and have marathon night. Set up a small grill outside the car or by your lawn chairs and cook up some Vienna beefs dogs. Also don’t forget your soda and popcorn. Make a great evening of it.

However not every woman is up for those type of manual labor dates.

October is my favorite month and spring and fall are my favorite seasons.
A day trip is nice if you want to look at the leaves changing and enjoy the weather. If you go apple picking you can always come home and make some apple dumplings or an apple pie for your sweetie.
The air shows (just left two weeks ago) are great and I do a lot of car shows…I just love cars are nice too. However they are pricey to me because I always end up buying stuff for my cars or something for me.
I love art all periods and all genres and from time to time I will get news of a gallery having a cocktail party showing off some of their artist…of course I go to view the art. The caveat to that is you may end up buying something…those are nice and you can mingle a bit.
The state fair is always nice in the fall…

Melo, my man I agree on this totally. I used to stay at home if the funds were low and when I go out I take the money that I can spend, NOT my money for bills. So I am with you a cheap date is cool, but you still want money in your pocket just in case.
I will say this I think a man can plan a cheap date, but if he is out with a woman that does not share his view it will be an expensive date. How many guys have suggested appetizers and drinks, at a spot where these things are reasonably price…well the date orders an entrée and mess up the whole money forecast projected for that date?

I love Halloween and the kids in my neighborhood wear the best costumes, well passing out the candy is fun and seeing the kids dressed up and after it is over you can have some drinks and finger food at home and do your own costumes…if you want to be naughty.
@Melo I have only been on Saturday morning or mid day on Saturdays plenty of people and I always go with my date. I would never go there by myself especially in the evening…I feel very safe during the times I have been.

2)A fall picnic in piedmont park.
3)Also, High Museum on the first Saturday of the month (if you are a Fulton County resident)
Cheap Tix:
Zoo Atlanta – even cheaper if you go the Atlantatix and get them for 1/2 price.
Our favorite autumn dates are to Helen, GA (if nothing more than enjoying the colorful leaves in the mountains) or Biltmore Estates (Asheville, NC) pretty much for the same reason.

Good day everyone.
Here is my playbook on dating in Atlanta. I was interviewed for the AJC on budget dating last year so I will put my 2 cents in:
http://www.ajc.com/living/content/living/stories/2008/12/29/budget_dating.html
1. Volunteering together is also a good date. It also can really let you know what kind of person you are dealing with. There are alot of Volunteer Organizations. I volunteered at Cafe 458, also tutoring kids in computers on the weekends, and also helping homeless people transition back into the workforce.
2. A good option that no one really ever talks about is Happy Hour or After Work Dates. Most places usually have great specials after work sometimes on mixed drinks, wine, beer, appetizers, etc. Also if you dont like the person, you know you wont have to stay for that long. Had a after work date last week at Tin Lizzy’s, we had tacos, chips and salsa, and margaritas and the bill was under $40.00.
3. Franchises (applebees, chilis, fridays, etc) are a big no no. Even though they have great specials they show the ultimate lack of creativtiy and planning.
3. Due to the recession, Atlanta has seen a huge influx of Pre-Fix Dinner specials and prices. So sign up for different restaurants e-newsletters. Sometimes its just a special going on for the month or event time.
@ImAPeach404

Dave and Busters can be done for under $40. They have pay and play combos for $15 that include food and credits on the game play card.

There is nothing wrong with franchises.
I’ve been known to get curbside to go and set up the table at home with “real” plates (aka Vera Wang China) and pull out a nice wine from our collection.

I have been trying to find a place to do glass blowing her in the metro. My son made me a vase once in camp and it was beautiful. I wasn’t the best vase but the colors were beautiful but it got knocked off the table and shattered.
I have watched shows on TV that show people blowing glass and I would like to try it. Does any know of a place her in the metro or even just in GA that offers a class?
My friend Doc told me of a place I think in south GA where you could go in and create your own ice cream flavors, but I think that was like a fair or something. But that would be a good thing to do one a date also. In fact now that I think about it you buy an ice cream maker and do you own experiments at home with your S/O.

Back in my really cheap days….
A date would be going to the dog parks at Piedmont Park and letting the wife enjoy the dogs there instead of getting one for ourselves.

M dot I wouldn’t suggest that as a first date option. But I don’t a reason why it would be totally taken off the table for someone you are in a relationship with and still dating.

I like the state fair, but I went every year as a kids and most years as an adult.
I don’t get many tickets to Auburn games anymore. I went to many games as a kid. I played there once. I got these from a former Auburn player. I pretty much have to use them or risk him not offering anymore. (i can’t waste his tickets when others probably asked for them)

Furthermore, The Auburn/Kentucky game is a night game. That doesn’t mean that tailgating starts later. It just mean that you should buy more alcohol because the tailgating will last longer.

If you know of someone that lives on the lake you can take your date to the lake and sit on the dock or out on the water with a nice wine and cheese basket.

An old yet faithful idea for this time of the year is riding the horse driven carriage snuggled together wrapped in a blanket.
Scrapbooking is another nice Saturday afternoon date idea. You can put together some pictures of the two of you, also with some ticket stubs and/or programs from events you have attended together all in a scrapbook. You can create your own recipes together, write them down and put them in there.

If you are really creative you can put together a scavenger hunt for your s/o. It can be based around a certain thing or event that can lead to a certain place in the end. It can be just certain landmarks and clues all tell a story. It depends on how creative you want to be and you get to tag along during the hunt giving the clues.
Heck it can just be stuff hidden and/or placed throughout your house.

Hey Lady J!
My house has one of those flip the switch fireplaces. I don’t even have the option to remove the ’setting’ and put in a starter log. I like a REAL fireplace, the crackling of the wood, the smell…
Plus, I almost set myself on fire messing with one of those gas fireplaces at my home in Houston. I’m skurred of those things

@Tazzee, so if you can’t put in a starter log and are skurred of the gas fireplaces, how do get your REAL fire going?
