File this under It’s Not Your Father’s Dating Scene: Brandon calls me after his first date with Kira because he wanted to know if he should be worried about something he noticed. As Kira was getting into her car, Brandon spotted a firearm in her handbag. He wasn’t sure if she had it on her the entire evening or not but it definitely was a gun. She didn’t notice that he saw the gun so they sort of just said goodnight and parted ways.
He asked me if I had a gun (no, not yet) and if it was normal for single women in Atlanta to take a gun on a date. I’m all for protecting yourself as long as you do it responsibly and legally, especially women! I didn’t think it was a red flag, per se, but I told Brandon to definitely talk to her about it. She may have strong opinions about it. Oh, and I also told him to try not to tick her off.
What do you think? Would you be bothered if someone you were dating carried a weapon for protection? If it’s not related to their occupation, would you be ok with them carrying a concealed weapon when you go out?
Have you ever been out with someone and noticed they were carrying a gun? What did you do?
If you are a gun owner, do you mention this fact to people you are dating? How do you broach the subject?
Could a pro-gun person and an anti-gun person co-exist in a relationship?

I see nothing wrong with the young lady having a gun. In these days we are living in you better be cautious. I have never owned a gun but if I was dating now having a gun in my purse or in my car would not be a bad idea. People are just crazy now.
I don’t dislike guns but I am not too fond of them but I understand their purpose. I didn’t know my husband owned a gun until one night he pulled it out when we heard some disturbance downstairs. Can you imagine my shock when he went into the closet and brought that gun out? LOL Yeah totally shocked me. He has a permit and has told me that I need to get one.
A few days later we discussed him having it in the house and he has insisted on teaching me to use it. You have to protect yourself these days.
And you know as for dating if you ain’t planning on getting out of line why would it matter that a gun is within reach.
Mason and I were listening to the news when the 38 year old later went missing and we talking about how first women need to stop going places alone. If you want to go walking or jogging take someone with you. Heck take a few someones with you. Or carry protection, a gun.

Morning all –
Having a concealed weapon is legal so I wouldn’t necessarily be alarmed. But yeah, I’d be bothered only by the fact that I don’t like guns and don’t see them often.
I think a pro gun and anti gun person could exist. This is the south, I’d probably expect it a little. I just read an article yesterday stating how there is a shortage of ammunition, the worst ever, since Obama came into office. All the pro-gun folks are afraid he’ll take away their guns.

Things that p!sses me off…
My baby sister…walking out the house in a tank-top’n'bootie short’n'flip-flop…At ten o’clock at night…while I just finish doing some work on her car.
Yes she can rock the dang getup
…but I had to remind her…There are too many crazy men in Atlanta, for her to walk around late at night, wearing what I like to call her ‘youcanlookbutnottouchnorspeaktome’ getup.
Shoot…we need more women on death row…it may help keep some of these weak men in check.

This topic is right up my alley! lol.
What’s the problem with carrying a concealed weapon? I don’t see a problem. Women carry guns, tasers, knives, pepper spray, etc. to protect themselves. I just say that we should carry and use our weapons responsibly. Crooks are armed. Why shouldn’t you be?
Wise, I think your friends real issue is the fact that his date felt that she had to bring her weapon out on a date with HIM. She on the other hand may have thought nothing of it because it may be normal for her to carry. Men are protectors. So, her having a gun may have made him think or feel as if 1.) She may not have trusted him 2.) She was trying to ‘be the man’ and protect herself when she should’ve looked to him for protection if something just happend to jump off while they were out.
Well, the man I’m dating now is a former police officer so he has no problem with me being a ‘pistol packing momma’. He even told me what gun would be the best one for me to carry.

If she’s wearing that at 10 pm at night. She’s not going to be walking around randomly in Atlanta. She’s in the car going straight to “his” house!

Good Morning All,
No problem at all with a guy carrying a gun on a date. Protect me until I get my own. I don’t feel it is a needed discussion to have unless the two people are serious, or you are dating someone on probation who has no business around firearms. I actually plan to get a gun and start going to the range. I told a few of my other single friends, outings at the gun range can be our new thing.

I’m with the majority… I see nothing wrong with carrying a gun to protect yourself as long as it’s done legally and responsibly. Me personally I don’t own a gun and I’m really not too fond of them. Now a days.. you have to be on guard walking out of your house being a woman or a man. Times are hard and people are losing their mind….
I would like to go to a gun range and be a gun owner, but prolly when I get over my fear of the actual “gun” itself. I’ve held a gun one time, my police friend let me. It scarred me… lol.
I say protect yourself… hell most of the scum bags have one, why not us innocent citizens

Brandon calls me after his first date with Kira
“first date” yeah she knew nothing about him and probably was just being careful. At least Brandon knows where she is coming from and where he better not go.
I am actually surprised he saw it as something negative rather than a smart woman being proactive when it comes to safety.
Would he be surprised also if she carried condoms in her purse or had them in her night stand? Safety first.
He could harm her a lot faster with his hands than he could by injecting her with vile fluids.
The gun is probably just the woman being safe.

I have a prime example of women doing to much.. Hanging out at Vino Libro with babe friends and we decided to go to the Majestic for something to eat afterwards. We all jump in our cars and get moving. I lead, two babes follow me and our other friend was following them.. Unbeknownst to us she stops to get gas at the Texaco on Memorial and Moreland at 1:00 in the morning.. Story short they robbed her. Saw her in a CLS and got her.. Took her purse with her keys and phone in it so the car wouldnt move so we had to get it towed. I just happened to be riding back by when I saw her sitting there with police crying.. The one amazing thing I noticed is chicks were running in and out of there like it was ok and we were there to 5 in the morning. Ladies when ya dude tell you dont do that please dont cause we would never forgive ourselves if something happened to you on our watch.. Oh and she had a gun in the car but they got the drop on her..

I have never, as far as I know, ever dated a woman who was packing (but admit to a hint of excitement when I got pulled over by an attractive lady cop a few years ago…gun was turnoff but the handcuffs…another subject, LOL). I would suggest that the first consideration for me would be “is she being sensible, or is she a psycho biotch”. Have seen both and I REALLY am uncomfortable around an armed “PB”.

I grew up in a household with guns and rifles, my dad even carried a gun in the glove compartment of the family car and his truck, I found that out one day when I was snooping around. lol….. I don’t have a problem with my date carrying a gun when we’re out on the town, he’s thinking ahead for protection. What I do have a problem with is if my date decide to show his gun off around me being cocky and me standing/sitting in fear of it going off.

I concur with DK and others….I think the guy felt offended because she chose to bring the gun on the date with HIM. Heck, I don’t blame her one bit. Safety 1st. You never know who the crazies are until it is too late. Just make sure you have a permit to carry a concealed weapon…..so you don’t do something stupid like Plaxico Burress!!!!
I grew up in a house with guns, my step-dad used to take me to target practice in out in the country and we would shoot at anything that moved. I had my own 22” Long Rifle by the time I was 12 and shot an AK-47 when I was 13. I quickly lost my gun privileges when I was overheard threatening a boy who used to bully me. My step-dad was quick to tell me……any fool can shoot a gun, just make sure it warranted and justified.
My fiancé’s dad is an army man and has several guns, but my fiancé is not comfortable with us having one in the house….he is too afraid of the kids getting to it…..I am all for it, as long as we keep it hidden and locked away.

And to be a smart butt – what was Brandon’s nosey behind doing looking in her purse? and why didn’t he just ask her why she carries? Brandon sounds kinda………..(um, yeah…that.)

“Ladies when ya dude tell you dont do that please dont cause we would never forgive ourselves if something happened to you on our watch..”
This is a sore spot for me…please ladies, LISTEN. When I am walking around downtown ATL or really any big city with a lady, I try as subtly as I can to tell her that if we are approached by someone, or are about to be threatened perhaps (and the important point here is BEFORE something happens) if she sees me move, I want her to run like Hellz instantly, find lights, people, cops, and don’t wait for me…I will strike first, hopefully delay/disarm, injure as quickly as possible and be right behind her eventually.
I don’t want to sound like Rambo to her or to anyone on this blog, but I was trained at Ft. Bragg many years ago and there is a method to the madness in the Army. That stuff they teach you ALWAYS remains there just under the surface about how to kill or disable. A few rules about confrontation:
1) ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS be aware of everything going on around you. Always be doing a threat assessment if you are in an area that might pose a threat. Your eyes should always be sweeping just like radar…these are dangerous times.
2) When you do notice anything even mildly discomforting ALWAYS start making a plan of action, who do you take down, how, take a knee out, knife edge of hand to Adams apple, can you slam the heel of your hand driving one’s nose up into brain (this one is for lethal situations only because if done correctly almost always kills the other)…escape route, the point is KNOW what you are going to do BEFORE you encounter trouble so you can ACT not REACT.
3) If action is inevitable don’t wait, strike first. The one who swings first ALWAYS has the advantgage.
4) One of the biggest bravest men I ever knew told me as a teenager, “a good run is better than a bad stand any day”. Use the time you have delayed them to run like a MUFR (see above “plan…escape route”).
As I said before ladies, please just LISTEN, don’t argue, sometimes even men know somethings.

@ Compelling … I don’t know what part of town you live in, but truthfully self defense is a lot like taking swimming lessons, you learn something that could save your life someday. I would really suggest to you and all ladies on the blog to find a self defense class for exactly the reason you just stated, to let instinct and training take over. Even if nothing happens bad to you ever, it empowers you and gives you a confidance that is always a good thing. Worst come to worst, it is good exercise.

What’s up great blog people?
As the regulars know, I am currently taking martial arts classes with my SO and his children. We are halfway to black belt and SO is now an assistant instructor. Along with the regular training on the art itself, our instructor teaches self-defense techniques. What to do if someone comes up behind you and grabs you in a certain way, comes at you in a certain way, etc. One day SO’s son & daughter were playing around after class, rough-housing. The boy(9) grabbed the girl(7) arms and the next minute, boy was flat on the floor. Baby girl just had a natural reaction! Boy was stunned, but not hurt and had to give her her props. The master saw it and has not stopped talking about it and it happened back in May! I cannot tell you how empowered it makes me feel! I know if I am caught in a situation, I have some way to get out of it enough so I can RUN!
I have a good friend in law enforcement that is going to teach me how to shoot. I am very afraid of guns, but I want to know how to use one.

Dream_n – I am a believer of martial arts for kids now. Not only are they able to defend themselves, but it teaches them respect and raises their self-esteem. I see the difference in SO’s kids when they have not been to class in awhile. And no, they don’t go around thinking they can beat up everyone either- part of the pledge we say at the beginning of every class is that we promise to not misuse what we learn in class. The kids have to pledge to respect their parents, school teachers and their martial arts instructors. The class also gives them an outlet for all that energy!
There is a guy in the class about 14 that has grown tremendously over the past year. He was shy and lacked confidence. All that has changed and he is now a jr instructor, halfway to black belt.
They start kids as young as 4. You should see them, they are very good!

On Essence.com there is a column called “It’s a Man’s World”. There is a dude on there that is an ex-basketball player that played in Europe. He is nice-looking, no doubt tall and has his degree and is a senior executive at a marketing firm and lives in the ATL. He says nobody appreciates that he’s Mr. Nice Guy and won’t give him a chance. He admits when he was a baller he was selfish and juggled several women. Now he says he’s ready to settle down, but women won’t give him the time of day & everyone he meets is superficial.
Most of the bloggers, including the men, are saying he’s used to women falling all over him and is now looking for sympathy love. They say he’s spitting game. Whatchall think?

Example of classic music.. It is still relevent today..
Tenement buildings and skyscrapers
All polluted and often invaded
With troubled heart and weakened mind
Livin their lives and hopin to find
The golden key to prosperity
Never have a grip on reality
This makes day-to-day living hard
Jump in your fate, never keeping the card
You’re just going through life without a trace
When the answers you seek are in front of your face
You’re blind
You’re blind
Tell ‘em D
You’re headed for the top or so you think
But that’s not true for you, your life’s on the brink
Of self-destruction, total corruption
You better get out or die from consumption
Sweatin’ for a dollar to get nothin back
Cause at the end of the week, you still get taxed
You’d even sell your soul to make your life correct
But with the rate of inflation, you should eat your check
So you try to make a hustle to get ahead
But the only thing you manage is to stay in the red
Concrete-front job to sell to wrecks
And your Jones for success puts your life in check
You’re blind
You’re blind, And you can’t see
You need to wear some glasses like DMC
You’re blind

As member of the NRA I think everyone should carry a gun. It’s the one thing that keeps this country from being invaded because almost everyone and their grandma has one. Also if someone breaks into your house you need to be able to defend yourself. I feel no sympathy for fools who get broke in on and are murdered and have nothing to defend themselves, it’s like your asking for it.
If I were to date I would tell the chick straight up I have one and I would show my carriers license followed by my counselors license. She doesn’t like it, fine it’s no skin off my teeth. Being mugged, broke in on, or to stop a crime (like a Robbery) is not going down on my watch. @ Rell I am losing too this season and I am very grateful to Ms. Tazzee for not bring it up during debriefing..I am hoping the football gods anger has passed.
@Blog Regular. Yeah what Tazzee said. You don’t loan money expecting to get it back from friends. some stuff you just count it joy and move on.

don’t loan money expecting to get it back from friends
Kym why the hell not? If they are a true friend they would not take your money and not pay it back. If they fall on hard time they owe it to you to ask for an extension to pay it. Then if you find it in your heart to forgive the debt then so be it. Other than that friends, family or whomever needs to pay when they take your money as you loaning it to them.
A person that doesn’t keep their word is not a true friend. Friendships are usually founded on our words but maintained thru doing what you say you are going to do.

@ Lioness re: Woman in Intensive Care After ‘Restoring Virginity’ for Sixth Time
This made me think of something. I had a vasectomy after the birth of my third child. It is a delicate operation but they can be reversed sometimes. After my divorce I was dating a lady who had grown children and had NO ZERO NADA intentions of ever having children again. So, one morning, laying together in the “afterglow” and knowing how she felt about having any more children, I said to her in my most sincere sounding voice I could muster, “you are incredible, so wonderful, so nice, I am thinking about having my vasectomy reversed so you can have my baby”. She jumped out of bed and grabbed her robe so fast you would think she had been shot in the butt with a pellet gun!!! I was laughing my azz off, she got so scared. I know it is one of those things you just had to be there to appreciate but it was so funny. Took her months to realize that when I sound as serious as a heart attack, there is a 90% chance I am jerking your chain.

Kym I agree putting someone on blast on a public forum is not the way to go about it. However like I told Lioness I have read on here where a few of the bloggers get together and hang out. Maybe BR have tried to contact him and couldn’t. Maybe one of his onling/offline buddies can let him know he is being called to the front line.
I am sorry about the rant, but someone owes me money right now.
And kinda off of W8 but yet on the money lending topic, don’t owe me money, tell me you cannot pay me right now, but walk by me with a new pair of shoes on and then brag about how you got them on sale a few days ago. Oh hell no.

I am such an advocate of giving and helping people in need… but I have also learned when it comes to money… never lend with the intentions of DEFINATELY getting it back…. don’t lend money if you can’t afford to not see it again… Friend or Family… b/c that day can come and there will be another excuse as to why you have to hold out to get your money back… So when I lend… I lend money that I know I’m okay w/out seeing.. not money I need..

Dream_n it’s called a loan. Lending. Not giving. If you know you can’t or have not intentions of paying it back, just so say. Ask the person if they can help you out. Don’t take money in the name of a loan and knowing you will not repay.
