File this under It’s Not Your Father’s Dating Scene: Brandon calls me after his first date with Kira because he wanted to know if he should be worried about something he noticed. As Kira was getting into her car, Brandon spotted a firearm in her handbag. He wasn’t sure if she had it on her the entire evening or not but it definitely was a gun. She didn’t notice that he saw the gun so they sort of just said goodnight and parted ways.
He asked me if I had a gun (no, not yet) and if it was normal for single women in Atlanta to take a gun on a date. I’m all for protecting yourself as long as you do it responsibly and legally, especially women! I didn’t think it was a red flag, per se, but I told Brandon to definitely talk to her about it. She may have strong opinions about it. Oh, and I also told him to try not to tick her off.
What do you think? Would you be bothered if someone you were dating carried a weapon for protection? If it’s not related to their occupation, would you be ok with them carrying a concealed weapon when you go out?
Have you ever been out with someone and noticed they were carrying a gun? What did you do?
If you are a gun owner, do you mention this fact to people you are dating? How do you broach the subject?
Could a pro-gun person and an anti-gun person co-exist in a relationship?

It makes me feel better to know I’m not the only one afraid of guns. Like someone else stated, I know it’s people that use the guns that kill people but the sight of a gun really makes me nervous. I’ve never even held a gun in my hand…I’d probably pass out…LOL I know that I need to learn how to shoot a gun, but at this point I’m scared of them.

I’ve Carried a gun in my former career but I did not like the false since of power that it gave me…..I felt really aggressive…prefer not to carry, but it’s a must have for the home.
@Demi – I scored a 98 on the range and my favorite stance is the Isosceles….oh yeah!
I probably would not go out with someone that I did not feel safe with.

When a man wants to take another wife, the first wife is usually involved in the discussions on who should be married and often needs to give her blessing.

Dream_n – I am a believer of martial arts for kids now. Not only are they able to defend themselves, but it teaches them respect and raises their self-esteem. I see the difference in SO’s kids when they have not been to class in awhile. And no, they don’t go around thinking they can beat up everyone either- part of the pledge we say at the beginning of every class is that we promise to not misuse what we learn in class. The kids have to pledge to respect their parents, school teachers and their martial arts instructors. The class also gives them an outlet for all that energy!
There is a guy in the class about 14 that has grown tremendously over the past year. He was shy and lacked confidence. All that has changed and he is now a jr instructor, halfway to black belt.
They start kids as young as 4. You should see them, they are very good!

Wings – Waverly, Ohio…do work for the Nuke site in Portsmouth (help, get me outta here!!!!)
Compelling – I think that anything that helps build one’s confidence is great. it may sound stupid, but one of the best confidence builders is sky diving. Conquer thaat fear and dayum near nothing will ever scare you again. One of the best “rushes” you can ever experience too. Make it to the gorund and you are confident from then on that you can always “make it ot the ground” from then on, no matter what life throws at ya.
@ DK …way to go man!!! What was it they used to say about Ft Benning and Jump School…
“The first week they separate the men from the boys (PT week)
The second week they separate the idiots from the men (tower week)
The third week the idiots jump )LOL, Jump week).
I got my commission about the time Vietnam ended so did not stay for much active duty, but spent time at Bragg, Carson, Huachuca, Gordon, etc. You’re the hero man, not me. But the training stays with ya.

On Topic: No, the gun toting would not bother me…maybe that is b/c my pops carried one on and off duty…and my Grandmother, also in law enforcement with Cook County, never left home without her gun as well…and my Grandfather, also City of Chicago PD…it is not the gun, but the intention behind having the gun that is the issue.
