The Ugly Truth

I watched the film The Ugly Truth in mild amusement, like I do most films about male-female dynamics. While the movie is meant to be entertaining, it kind of highlights a lot of what goes on with gender biases and social perceptions of men and women.

The male lead character basically describes men as the simple creatures who will do and say whatever it takes to bed a woman. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but it’s a romantic comedy.

It did make me look further into the notion that men and women can both be ethically ambiguous. I read somewhere that that socialists consider a component of “ambivalent sexism” in the theory of benevolent sexism: “Women compared to men, tend to have a superior moral sensibility”. They actually conducted studies and claim that “women have a superior moral and ethical fortitude as compared to men”. I don’t know about that one!

It lends itself to male vs. female battle but we already know we are different. What are your thoughts? Should we really give credibility to these kind of studies?

Some folks follow the Pastor moreso than they follow God..a Pastor/Bishop/Preacher is just the vessel that God uses to help undersatand his word that is plainly written

Well put. Unfortunately, not too many pastor/bishop/preachers have truly been called to perform His work in my opinion. Instead we have men and women in robes chasing the almighty dollar and asking parishoners (many who are struggling financially themselves) to help them live a life of luxury. They’ve used religion as a vehicle to carry out some of the greatest hustling of all time. That’s game.

@For Real

(continuing Kym’s statement)…Especially the Abramaic one’s.

Responding to your post: Spirituality is definitely a different phenonmenon than religion. Not going into it too deeply, but spirituality is the basis upon which the various religions were founded. Each denomination or religion has its own means, methods, and doctrines by which to experience the Divine (whatever that is).

Thus the differing religions all seeking similar things (esp. Monotheistic religious traditions).

DK I was raised to go to church on Sunday hearing it was the Lord’s day but since being lead by the Spirit I know better now, now it wasn’t an over night change, my mind kept rejecting Saturday worship and going back to what I was trained to do, church on Sundays. Many family members and friends contend that Sunday is the new Sabbath or Saturday is no longer the Sabbath and that the Sabbath was nailed to the cross, but how can that be, the 10 commandents didn’t all of a sudden became the 9 commandments. The Sabbath was established since the beginning of time. On the seventh day God rested which is Saturday the Sabbath.

I don’t know personally. So, I cannot attest either way about his attitude. We all have bad days and vices, but most of us don’t have the resources that his paycheck allowed. I do know that he had a big fall in terms of life.

I have heard more about his lack of preparation on the football things than him being a bad person outside of football.

(Disclaimer..I watch alot of documentaries..I love history..and I am so going to reqret bring this up….but)

There is a temple in India the temple is adorn with all different sexual positions on it. People believe it is part of the origins of the Karma Sutra..and that sex was at one point in time the way to become closer to God.<<History of Sex.

PG – I can see why there isn’t a stop sign when you first enter the marketplace. Folks were treating it as a 4-way stop and traffic backed up on to Camp Creek. Not fun.

But yeah, the line to get on to 285N can be a bear. I’m the one that cuts into the line from someone to busy on their phones to keep the traffic moving.

that sex was at one point in time the way to become closer to God.

William Shakespeare used “dying” as a metaphor for an orgasm. Life was ending and you were meeting your maker at that climax moment.

abc…I meant to say, religious folks and not religion. I have nothing against religion…but I do have a problem with religious folks. In my opinion, they’re no different than a killer or child molester…I DETEST their behavior toward others….I am sure God does as well….Pharisee I call them.

Working on my spiritual man is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself…It allow me to be me…love me for me…and allow me to love others for who (and what the heck) they are. While I read the bible for inspiration and as daily guide for healthy living…I am not going to impose my belief on any one, but to empower and encourage them.

For me, spirituality…is to strive for something greater within myself (God and I). Religion allows me to study my doctrine with others of like minds and surround myself with others…to encourage and be encouraged…

Acts 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

Religious folks…can only destroy.

Dan/W8…I agree with the two of you.

@ARed I know but that was just part of it. The documentary actually looked at attitudes toward sex both western and eastern. In eastern beliefs it was ritual..for example..there is a craving with a woman, a man and two other people who are kind of holding the woman upside down..nevermind too hard to describe..anywhoo in Japan (I think, it was consider unnatural for a man to “release” other procreation because it was thought the release would rob the man of his power.

I usually just skip I-285 N all together. I just take Camp Creek to I-85 N and head back downtown that way. Most people are usually in a hurry to get to the airport so there is no slow traffic.

I was heading home from CC this weekend and looked to my right and saw a long line of cars coming up from the south trying to get off the exit! It was spilling back onto the highway and we know that off ramp is plenty long!

PG – Sho nuff. I tear up Camp Creek Parkway on the way to the airport. I’m always pushing it cuz I hate waiting for flights.

I’m right off 285 so taking it is just easier for me. Though I will take Fairburn Road sometimes, but that takes much longer.
