The Ugly Truth

I watched the film The Ugly Truth in mild amusement, like I do most films about male-female dynamics. While the movie is meant to be entertaining, it kind of highlights a lot of what goes on with gender biases and social perceptions of men and women.

The male lead character basically describes men as the simple creatures who will do and say whatever it takes to bed a woman. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but it’s a romantic comedy.

It did make me look further into the notion that men and women can both be ethically ambiguous. I read somewhere that that socialists consider a component of “ambivalent sexism” in the theory of benevolent sexism: “Women compared to men, tend to have a superior moral sensibility”. They actually conducted studies and claim that “women have a superior moral and ethical fortitude as compared to men”. I don’t know about that one!

It lends itself to male vs. female battle but we already know we are different. What are your thoughts? Should we really give credibility to these kind of studies?

Vick met with Green Bay officials late last week. They don’t have a single owner like most franchises so there is not a single guy that can lurk over the GM/Pres and veto the move. They are publicly owned (mostly by their fans), and have a board of directors instead of a Jerry Jones, Al Davis or Comcast -style owner.

They are one of the few teams that have not publicly ruled Vick out either.

My last thing on religion today (I think..lol) Is that many people allow Church to “get in the way” of a personal relationship with the Lord(Spirituality)

I love God, but I don’t like most of his groupies….marinate on that….

DemiSpirituality is the essence of that belief of a “higher power” or the interconnectivity of Man in general.

I think that many of the teams, who publicly ruled Vick out, did it to keep protesters away.

I am hearing that many teams that were on the “No Vick” list are still inquiring about him to some degree.

I’ve had this debate about “unclean” foods from folks. The Lord declared all foods clean in the New Testament. A lot of SDAs reject that though.

ON a serious note a God’s groupie is when a person starts putting Church (Notice I said Church not God) in front of what God has ordained for them or their own family and life..i.e. not taking care of home or your marriage is falling apart under the guise of one just serving the Church…

@Chink- I am still learning and nowhere near excellence( I did not say perfect..cuz i think perfection is unattainable there is always room for improvement)…but to answer your question I am non-denominational. I believe in the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit and I am learning as I am going..when I try to do things on my own I often revert..but the few times that I have been convicted on something I stop it cold turkey…I dont understand the process and I am my mind is strong enough that I do not succumb to what naysayers have to say…so I walk according to my own understanding and pray for more guidance during my search.

I can relate to that. It’s a book title I saw a while ago, “I’m fine with God, it’s Christians I can’t stand!”.

The thing about Christian churches is they seem to strive to get the congregation to worship the church. Just the same, I’m not so sure that unidentified inklings, suspicions or intuitions that there is a supernatural higher power that remains unknown and undefined connotes Spirituality.

One can take a Zen and existential approach to life, with journey as destination, becoming one with the Universe, and I’m not so sure I could say that was Spirituality. An opposite to that would be to say that I have a spirit that I focus on, feed and nurture, and in that way I’m Spiritual. It just doesn’t seem to embody the concept.

To answer an earlier question, whether a person can become one with God only through religion: I wouldn’t say that a person can ‘become one with God’. God is, to me, a distinct entity, Trinity notwithstanding. The only way to know God is through religion, even if you never set foot in a church, synagogue, or temple your whole life. Maybe people introduced you to Godly concepts through organized religion, maybe you read some books, or maybe God spoke or interacted directly with you, but to just pick it out of the air on your own is… well, super-intuitive, I suppose.

What up blog fam.

Why is it everytime a chick mention morales on here she talking about sex?

No one sex is more of anything that the other sex. People like saying those thing to promote the double standard or give reason as to why they can’t keep the opposite sex, can’t get the opposite sex, can’t keep their legs closed, can’t keep their pant zipppppped……

No such thing as spiritual. You can’t base your spirituality off a religion and say you spiritual. Taking bits and pieces from the various religion makes you a non-domination religious person.

Vick will be Denver. The Patriots offense is perfect for Vick. Oh and all of those teams that claim they don’t want Vick are looking at 2nd year or 40 something year old as their backup.

My church is a nice size but you can still walk up to the pastor after service and say something to him and he will take the time to get to know you.

I just started going back this year after giving it up for about 20yrs.. I still prayed but I told myself I dont have to go to church cause a preacher cant save my soul. He cant but its good to hear some good news you can use every now and again. I was raised in the church in a church where the entire family went. Its funny cause I just realized one day that I wanted to go and hear some word and just kinda stumbled into this church and been going every since. Man I went in there and ole dude was preachin the gospel and spoke to me, I think I even shedded a tear or two cause I knew I had been out there and way wrong. Now I dont go every sunday but I find myself going more and more.
