Spotted on Twitter: “Blackberries, iPhones and Twitter killed the dating world. R.I.P.” This statement coming from The Fly Guy himself, made me think, “How do we even manage to hook up in person anymore?!” I know a lot of us are way into technology and social networking, but is it becoming harder for you to strike a balance with old school dating?

You know, calling a person up, asking them out, going to pick them up, and enjoying the company with quality face to face time. Yeah, that’s old school dating! Today, we send evites, tweets, Facebook messages to set things up with friends and dates.

The younger guy (I still need a name for him) I am seeing is all about the text. It got to the point where I had to tell him what I was comfortable with on text, and what actually required a phone call.

We have so many ways to showcase our personalities these days: Facebook, Twitter, personal blogs, text messaging, instant messaging, or email. Whew, that’s a lot of typing at each other. How can you determine if a person is actually interested in you when they are using “text”, which doesn’t exactly scream big effort?

Are you seeing someone who spends more of their time typing at you then seeing you in person? Do you think that is genuine interest or boredom?

Guys, you aren’t really big on phones and chatting, do you prefer the texting to communicate because it is a compromise for you?

How many of you all use Opentable.com? I love it

W8 – It’s cool. My ex would email me restaurant confirmations. It was nice to open my inbox and see it. Gave me time to get the perfect outfit ready for dinner in my head.

PG – Hmm…maybe it was the petite fillet…

So…there is a Surf and Turf special… nice.

It was a good surf and turf dinner two years ago that got me eating steak again. Now I’m hooked.

I am cracking myself up thinking about this…

Is it the quality of the food or the price that you pay???

The Shallow and Broke: “I want the most expensive meal you can buy me”

The Wise and Richer: “Excuse me waiter, I have a coupon for that”

I use open table to make reservations, order flowers to be sent to our table, etc.

Ray’s on the River even set our table with little “Happy Anniversary” confetti on year thanks to comments mentioned through Opentable.

HAAAAAAAAAAA, good one Melo. I’ve been going to the pizza parlor in that plaza for the past 15 years (way before The Velvet Room appeared). And, I make it my business to stay away from that area on weeknights. If I were to troll, it definitey wouldn’t be there (no matter how many wannabee and real ballers frequent the place).

No you didn’t…I ain’t looking for no “young rabbits”! That was funny, though!

Second attempt…hopefully not a dup.

Hey Wisey – How about Calvin aka “Youngblood” for the lad?

ON TOPIC – Regarding texting…I’ve tried to meet the man in the middle for the sake of compromise (on my part) when it comes to texting. Heyal, I’ve went out of my way to include text messaging in my wireless plan on one occasion. Good thing they do rollover – however, I still can’t stand it.

Emails…I don’t mind so much, but after awhile, I’m not as interested simply because both methods just get old. FB, MySpace and any other network (affliated or not) – as I’ve stated before, not my thing. For me, it has sort of a “poptart”/high school musical feel. Sure…it’s nice to reconnect with folks that I actually want to reconnect/catch up with (occasionally). But to have access to my whereabouts and such…naw. It’s enough that the government and other agencies can track me down when they see fit, I don’t …let me rephrase – I have a serious problem giving the general public access to track me down. So when someone asks me if I have any of those, I PROUDLY say – NO, I do not. Shoot, I’ve seen folks out and about while shopping, running errands and such, that I knew back in school or growing up in the neighborhood…and not all, but with most – I give little to no recognition. I’m pretty pleasant, cordial and all those wonderful things, but all in ya’ face – I am not. “A hello, nice to see you and take care” will suffice…at least for me.

Cee Hey sis, what up? You’re just itchin’ to get me started. LOL And chica, when you fall on thru, “we’ve” got to introduce you to that fiyah…conch included…and all those robust, spicy, mouth-watering thangs. Pusha Gal will shole nuff put you on with ya first “fix”. And after that, the rest is black history. Can’t express nor talk about it any longer. It’s time to show & prove. I got chu, sis. 2PieceChick keeps temptin’ me to bring a hitch and a hog strapped to the “baick” (pronounced bike). …don’t push me, cuz I’m….
