Everything Old Is New Again

The results of the Great Male Survey 2009 from Askmen.com are in. I eagerly anticipate this each year (no sarcasm, really) because it’s like getting a small peek into a cross-section of men that are in my dating pool. From what I can tell, modern men are still big on tradition: “When it comes to the romantic front, everything old is new again”  I feel that this is a great thing to hear, for the most part.  That doesn’t mean I don’t struggle with some of the ideas that come with that though.

The Dating & Sex part of the survey had a lot of great questions. I would be interested to hear some of our male readers to respond to the first five: Do you believe that you have a soul mate? What is the most important personality trait that makes a woman “relationship material”? Is it important for a girlfriend to have “wife potential”? Do you believe in marriage? How important is it to you for your future wife to sign a prenup?

Ladies, the Great Female Survey was given by Yahoo’s female portal, Shine. Same questions for you: Do you believe that you have a soul mate? What is the most important personality trait that makes a man “relationship material”? Is it important for a boyfriend to have “husband potential”? Do you believe in marriage? Do you want your future husband to sign a prenup? Would you sign one?

Some of the numbers surprised me, what do you think about the responses?

Happy Friday everyone!

I feel you Mo ’cause it is a little thick up in here….quiet as it’s kept somebody sounds a little verklempt at some of these “anti po po” rants and whatnot.

I hope the story about E. Lynn isn’t true either.

I think that the press wouldn’t do it if they didn’t get ratings from it. USA is about the dollah, dollah bill.

PG- I so agree. So folks should not complain. Same with these sorry, low-quality tv shows we have. They would not show them if folks did not watch them!

From a lot of folks that vent about him being on tv a lot, the underlying, and sometimes not so underlying, thought is that if he’s on tv then he’s not working. If he takes a vacation he’s not working. Like that Gorilla Glue comment Zell Miller made – glue him to his seat at the Oval Office! Even if you don’t agree with anything he’s doing, I think he’s working his butt off. He might be 75% gray by the end of the his first year.

Okay I have my lunch..now what did I miss.

@W8 I read you loud and clearcops and military guys can get it any day. I support the efforts and considering the stuff you have to deal with in law enforcement and military..this is one citizens that will defend the police any day. There are good and bad cops just like good and bad people.

On E.Lynn Harris Arkansas Times is reporting him dead at 54..he had some health setbacks says the article. His latest book, “Basketball Jones,” is about the gay lover of an NBA star. Says the publicity blurb: “In Basketball Jones, E. Lynn Harris explores the consequences of loving someone who is forced to conform to the rules society demands its public heroes follow.

@PoppaG aka Big Brother lookout I am so glad you know all my alias..hey if I go to the Clermont lounge could that be ruled unethically and unmorally behavior when I apply for law school?

AmRed and PoppaG – C’mon now, give me more credit than that. I only believe the posts that have a link and I got the same link AmRed posted. I check sources before making mention of anything.

Actually, twitter has been a GREAT source for me because I don’t read papers in other cities. Got the McNair info from someone that posted the Nashville paper link, E. Lynn from the Arkansas Times link, etc. It seems the news makes it local before CNN or another national source publishes it.

Yeah, that’s because CNN has to actually get it varified. I wasn’t gonna believe anything about Michael Jackson til CNN called it! And it was HOURS after it broke.

TMZ broke it first, and you knew it was true, I just didn’t want to believe it.

Though I was apt to believe Jeff Goldblum was dead too, but didn’t speak on it til I could find a source, and I couldn’t.

the Redneck Riviera is the Florida Panhandle Beaches nickname.

Travel Advisor/expedia/etc have even made mention of it.

I heard it routinely growing up in south Clayton County. Folks would go to Panama City and come back with “My mom went to the Redneck Riviera and all I got was this -T-Shirt”shirts.

Although I’ve never really given it much thought until now, but it sounds like a reference to the fact that Although Florida is in the south a/k/a “redneck country” , Florida was not an English colony. Florida was a Spanish term. Hence the Riviera, a latin term that is associated with coastal areas.

I agree with alot of the comments made on the incident of Gates/Cam Police. IMO it’s more about bruised ego than race. Most of all I want to thank the neighbor for looking out, she/he could have turned a blind eye but instead did the right thing by notifying the police. Gates on the other hand took things out of the context esp by uttering something in reference about the police’s mother, that was not called for. As for the President he should have gotten all the facts and not let his emotions toward his friend lead him to give a premature statement. Last I read the police is considering a defamation lawsuit.

W8 – I get it, you really can’t choose your battles and that’s a poor choice of words on my part. I do think some could assess situations better so as not to overreact, but I am not a cop and have not walked in your shoes and come up against what you have to deal with. My dad could have told you all kinds of stories about what he went up against and had to deal with working in Grady’s emergency room.

This is probably not the most supportive forum for a cop, but speaking for myself I do appreciate what you’ve said on here today. I respect all aspect of law & law enforcement, just not some of the individuals in it and their actions. I appreciate being able to call the law for help. We could not have a peaceful society without it.

It seems the news makes it local before CNN or another national source publishes it.

Twitter isn’t always verified news.

CNN has to verify news or face possible lawsuits. Which leads to some sort of accountability.

Twitter, as it stands, has no accountability. Twitter considers itself a rumormill. It looks like twitter might start charging to verify news. They don’t always verify accounts, and it looks like they will start doing that for a charge.

Took a dude into custody at an abortion clinic this morning…now I work HRT/SWAT/Fugitive Recovery….we’ve been looking for the dude for a long time…well we find out that his girlfriend is having an abortion early this morning around 4am…now I just got in around 2am I think because after about 7 Hennessy’s and multiple Corona and Heiniken chasers i am a little twisted…phone rings @430am…”mount up we have to go uc in an abortion clinc..etc etc etc” we get in place and we are helping run the show at the clinic..man that is the saddest place I have ever been in..just knowing what is going on in there…I saw a 12 year old girl come in and leave with her mother..The 12 year old had an abortion…I dont know the backstory on that due to HIPPA regulations…but there were other clients there too.. Anyway our perp walks in he’s in a suit 40 plus guy…he walks up to the window she fills out her paperwork he fills out his section since he is her “escort” or whatever the clinic calls the person who goes there with you…Then BAM we take him down HARD…She starts crying people are giving us a hardtime once they realize what’s going on.. we are hearing the “Let him be with his woman..this is a trying time crap..etc..etc” What they dont know is that this clean cut guy who is trying to be there for his woman is a cold blooded killer and a fugitive from justice. Anyway….those clinics are by far one of the most depressing places in the world…..sad sad sad stuff…I don;t know if my hangover amplified that fact but geeshh I am glad to kiss my kids today and glad that was not an option for them…

AmRed – I’m apt to believe that a local news source verifies their information before reporting it too. Not talking about TMZ but an actual news outlet.

Some people don’t believe it’s true until CNN publishes it – I’m not one of those people. And unless the E. Lynn story proves to be false, I haven’t had an instance where CNN didn’t follow up with the same information.

Unfortunately, I don’t think E. Lynn Harris will be high on the national news source radar.

I agree with your 12:06. I agree them even though I have had problems with cops in certain jurisdictions.

Lawyers say similar things in that we are villified and called everything but a child of God until someone needs us too.

Law students and med students often talk crap to each other. One thing that we tell the med students: ” When lawyers were crafting the United States Constitution, doctors were saying ‘take two leeches and call me in the morning’”

That always seems to get a good chuckle going between us law nerds and those med nerds.

AmRed – I’m apt to believe that a local news source verifies their information before reporting it too. Not talking about TMZ but an actual news outlet.

Tazzee – My point is that CNN is behind the curve becuse they take more steps to verify their info more than local (or gossip) news sites.

They aren’t always the last to know. I would venture that they would get tips just as early as local news do too. You’d gain a lot of credibility having your tip reported on CNN. But because folks want to be the “first” they’ll give it to anyone who will be willing to broadcast it.

@Leggs they don’t open at 4am. But most do open at 6am. And I know because I had to be a “driver assistant” for a friend of mine. Abortions are medical procedures(out patient surgery). It took about 5 hours. The one I went to open early because they try to avoid the protesters as much as possible. They had bulletproof vest on the escorts to protect them as they lead clients in.

W8 – I befriended this young lady(20 yrs old) that was new to the A. Her boyfriend was my boyfriend’s best friend. Anyway, her bf gets sent to the Persian Gulf and she finds out she’s preggers. Decides to have an abortion and calls me to go with her. I go, and I agree its a sad place. After she filed out the paperwork & I verified that I was her escort, I had to get out of there for awhile. That was back when Macy’s was downtown. I shopped & walked around (they told us it would be a few hours before it was all over). Abortion protesters with pictures of dead babies were at the clinic.

She and I lost touch after I broke up with my bf. But she had 2 more abortions after that one – just using it for birth control. It sickened me.

It is a trip. I can’t do criminal law because I am old and ain’t go the patience of some cat telling me to get him off for some crap that he knew was wrong in the first place.

On another note, my criminal procedure class, which focused on the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments of the US Constitution, spent a great amount of time on police and what they can and can’t do. That gave me more of a respect for what cops go through when I read some of the cases.

That’s funny I had that debate with a guy awhile back regarding Fla being located in the south, doesn’t make the entire state “southern” and/or country….and I say the because of it’s history with the spanish. But it’s also funny to me that the further north one travels in this state (I’d say from Ocala on up)the more country it feels and looks.

Lol Shoot, I have folks from those parts too, from Waldo to Wimauma (pronounced Wild or Wile Mama)…to Ocala to parts of Bama and Jawgia…to…awww heyal, all over. But I’d still venture to say there is a bit of a difference in there.
