Single people can be a creative bunch. We come up with the most unique excuses reasons not to date someone. I’m talking about the “relationship resume” that some people prefer to be long, detailed, and has proof of commitment. You say you are a good candidate? We’re going to need references!
While some prefer not to date a previously married person, others would just like someone who is not new to the relationship thing. I can admit that dating someone with no real relationship experience can be challenging.
You may have to become a virtual relationship guide and exercise a little more patience. It’s not necessarily impossible to do but I am pretty sure the inexperienced person would have to put up with something too. That’s why it’s called a relationship.
Do you think those post high school and college relationships really make a big difference in our relationship resume? What do you think is important in a person’s dating history?
What was the relationship from your past that you think helped make you a better person?
Which one do you think actually created some emotional baggage for you?
Would it bother you if you were dating someone who has never had a long-term relationship before?
I want to remind you that the Misadventures in Atlanta blog will be closed on Friday.
Happy Monday!

Good morning,
Of course there is emotional baggage from the “first heartbreak”, that’s understandable and natural.
It’s the process of getting over it that is the key. Some people can and some are forever scarred.
As for me, I listen for clues that she hasn’t gotten over a LTR. And the fact that she may not have had one doesn’t really bother me either.

Good Morning WD
At first I thought this does not apply to my dating group (40+) and then realized that actually I do read a lot into a lady’s “status”.
If the lady has never been married, that raises a red flag for me, i.e., has she been “high maintenance”, is she a “biotch” and every man that has been involved with ran. Does she have children without a father in their life? Why?
If the lady has been married multiple times, that raises a red flag. Does she throw in the towel when the “rains come”? Do the men leave her as soon as they find out what she is like on a daily basis? Does she make remarkably poor choices of men? What is she really looking for? Why?
Does she NOT have children? Is this choice or chance? Does this mean she cannot accept mine and will want me to detach from my own? Why?
Is she divorced or widowed? Ex husbands have a nasty habit of ccoming back into a woman’s life sometimes and screwing things up. I haven’t had much of a problem with dead ex-husbands. What is the story and is she really over the man that hurt her so much?
My point is that I guess I do note the status as much as I would like to pretend I don’t…and yes it does color my initial perception.

What is important in a person’s dating history?
Ok, long story short it is difficult to gauge a person’s dating history because you can only go on the story that person tells you (unless you are dating the boy next door). Usually I listen and mentally notate red flags and conflicting information. I was talking to a friend this weekend and we were talking about how when people lie in dating/relationships and not realize that they are and when do you call them out on it. So for me it is not the his-tory, but what a person says and how truthful that is.
Which one do you think actually created some emotional baggage for you?
I had a very good friend and the friendship developed into a relationship (we have been friends for about 6 or 7 years at the time)…we dated 3 years and the relationship ended because of his infidelity so of course that left some baggage. Both the friendship and relationship ended overnight.

Do you think those post high school and college relationships really make a big difference in our relationship resume?
Hmmm I love the innocence that’s associated with my high school sweetheart. He still calls me to check on me, and he makes it clear that if I need anything he will be there. So I guess the difference can be positive or negative on a relationship resume. For me it is a positive because as I look back and even the way he treats me now…I know when a man is being sincere with me.

Note to all…I will only post one song a day this week…
This one is for my blog sister….enjoy bey!!
There’ll be no darkness tonight
Lady our love will shine
Just put your trust in my heart
And meet me in paradise
You’re every wonder in this world to me
A treasure time won’t steal away
So listen to my heart
Lay your body next to mine
Let me fill you with my dreams
I can make you feel so right
And baby through the years
Gonna love you more each day
So I promise you tonight
That you’ll always be the lady in my life
Lay back in my tenderness
Let’s make this a night we won’t forget
Girl, I need your sweet caress
Reach out to a fantasy
Two hearts on the beat of ecstasy
Come to me
And I will keep you warm
Through the shadows of the night
Let me touch you with my love
I can make you feel so right
And baby through the years
Even when we’re old and gray
I will love you more each day
‘Cause you will always be the lady in my life

Happy Monday Lovelies.
Yup, apperently it’s a bad thing that I’ve never had a relationship for longer than 2 years. I guess it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t take longer than that to recognize when something isn’t working. I guess you don’t get points for choosing to be alone rather than be in a bad relationship.
And because no relationship has taken all of me, I can’t say that there is any real emotional baggage left. Of course they’ve all helped me “fine tune” my radar and there are definitely behaviors I can look out for and avoid. But I’m not in the practice of putting up walls or making other men pay for the last guys sins. All that will do is hold me back from finding a really great relationship.

Good Morning All,
I careless about a person’s past relationship what are you doing in the NOW is way more important.
The only thing(s) that matter to me are is your drama resolved. I don’t want to know what or who caused the drama..I just want to know is it resolved. I don’t want to be in the middle of custody battles, ex-wife/girlfriend stuck on stupid, because anything that you have in your past that has not met some resolution and could potentially come back and put me in the middle..well lets just say there will be some smoke in the city.

Post high school and college relationships:
High school relationships were (for the most part) innocent, fumbling, but honest. Honest in the stuttering reticence of telling a girl how you felt. Yeah, the high school relationship was….pure.
In college, I looked for “the one”, but among the many. For me it became less about the connection than the relationship. Becoming an “adult” and figuring out what I could, would, and wouldn’t do in/for the relationship, kinda lessened the initial rush of emotions.
Today, for me, it’s more about the process of being with someone. Having had really bad relationships, I’m a bit more cynical about just jumping in solely on emotion.
I think though it has less to do with being in high school or college, but more about where your head (and heart) was regarding relationships in general.

I have had relationships that have created some positive outlooks and set new standards on how to love and how to be loved. Those relationship have brought the best out in me and going by those standards and what came naturally to me in those relationships let’s me know when I am in a new relationship if I struggle to do those things that came easy previously I know that my needs are not being met. I have to give two of my ex’s props because they have taught me what a Real Woman was made of…to bad I messed them up. Lessons learned when I find that special person who speaks to my heart I will move heaven and earth to keep her. It took me awhile to get over my divorce 7 years ago after being married for 9 years (she was my college sweetheart) and gave me all sorts of trust issues not in a cheating manner but trust issues on other levels, but I am always upfront and honest about that If I decide to pursue someone new. Not holding the past against the new woman… I just do a better screening before I let my heart go full steam ahead.
@Professor- an ex still calling to check on him/her letting them know that they will always be there if you need anything is a recipe for disaster. I think it’s disrespectful on him/her and the ex if one of them is currently in a relationship if they are single that’s a different story. Well thats just my opinion and I am sure others will differ dude shouldn’t be the safety valve he should be the main since he is so willing all the time.

@Kym- I agree. Everyone has a history..thing is have you handled and are you drama free.
On High School relationships. I dated the same girl through out high school..we broke up when we went to college..I met my now ex wife and after I divorced her I asked my hs sweetheart out on a date…It was horrible…during dinner over the candlelight all I could think about was getting out of there…what I realized after the fact was that she was used to the old me and was acting as how she remembered me last..I had changed so much since high school (87,88,89,90) to then present day(02,03) it was comical.

Hey gang
“Relationship Resume”…
What I do not give stock to, is knowing every detail in you past dating misadventures. To know every component of the ex like, how ya’ll connected while singing nursery rhymes?….where you two went for your first, second and 15th date?….why her dog Tipsy liked when you used the downstairs bathroom next to his feeding bowl?….and why she swings from the balcony after preparing your favorite meal?…That info does not give me/us any benefit towards how WE will be together.
A relationship resume, will not profit me jus ‘cause I KNOW all your history. Just give me that “need to know”…e.i.: Have you checked all emotional cylinders for any drama residue? That includes all schizo, bipolar, and disease stricken encounters with exs.

What I look for individuals to carry from past relationships is not baggage, it’s the lessons.
I believe that everyone that I have dated has come into my life to teach me something. Whether it be to pull from their best qualities to show me what my soul needs in a mate or whether it was to retreat from the worst of who they were so that I could glean the aspects of what I do not want.
Because just as important as knowing what you want in a relationship, knowing what you don’t want is key. So that when you recognize qualities what you don’t want, you can walk away.

How does it affect you if your person of interest is still close friends, or friends at all with one or many of their exes? I am pretty sure this topic has been discussed or it should have by now… but I think it can be just as much a sign of trouble if a person is too close to an ex or if they talk too badly of them. My extreme first high school crush and I still talk a few times a year. It’s funny. It’s been so long since all that went on. You know – twenty years is a long, long, long, long, long time ago. I forget that he is who he was at that time.
Now, he’s just a friend that calls me from time to time. It probably doesn’t help that he’s now 42 years old, has never been married, has no kids, has ALWAYS lived with his parents, and is now rumored to be gay.
Yep – all that definitely blocks all romantic memories and feelings.

EPO – It really matters not that they are exes, it matters more if the relationship is appropriate or not. If they still hang out frequently, share “inside” jokes, are affectionate and love to talk about “old times” I’m not on board. This goes for friends who aren’t exes as well.
If I deem the relationship in appropriate due to actions (not just because of jealousy or insecurity) then their friendship will have to scale back.

I don’t know, Randy, I dated a couple of widows, and comparisons to a ghost were big problems. The dead guys tend to get their better attributes magnified quite a lot after death, and the quality of the relationship they had tends to get enhanced. What it boiled down to for me was a chick talking about how she knew she knew how to be in a good relationship on account of that, so everything that they didn’t like must be on account of me.

Here’s two clicks of my opinion about artists – They are not normal people. They do not operate in a normal world. They are not going to respond in what we think is a normal way. As artists, their interpretation of a tribute to MJ should have an artistic slant. They are entertainers and are not the spokespeople for Black America – they are the artistic representations of the best and the worst of who we can be.

EPO – To each his own. I have guy friends I love like family, but if a life mate came into the picture and had a valid concern about the closeness of our relationship, I’d absolutely scale it back.
These guy friends have done things like taken me on cruises before. It was fine when I was single, if my guy and I are talking marriage, it’s not appropriate.
I absolutely feel I have the right to express my side and hope that the nature of the relationship changes. People have a choice. And if the choice is made to not change a thing, then I can walk away.

Where the heck did they find Tevin Campbell???? I enjoyed seeing him on stage!
Leggs – How much did I love, love, LOVE Tevin Campbell growing up?! It was great to see him.
One of my happiest childhood memories. I was 16 or so and had a summer internship with Warner Bros Records. I was sitting at my desk and get a urgent call to come to one of the execs offices. I was scared as I had no power, clout or anything…what did I do?
I walk into the office and Tevin Campbell is waiting for me! My bosses new how much I loved him and they arranged for us to meet that day. He was totally nice!
I was on cloud nine for the rest of the summer.

Morning Blog Folks
Had a very fun weekend. Kids are back & in full effect!LOL!! To top that off, SO bought them a waterslide. I’m thinking it was going to be just an updated version of the old-school Slip N Slide. How about it was this huge thing that took up half the backyard! He needed to be charging admission! He invited some of the neighborhood kids(along with their parents) to play on it. I told him his house was the official “cool house” now! After playing on the slide they came in and watched a movie in his new home theatre & we served them popcorn & drinks. Yeah, the new cool house!
On topic – I had a few crushes, but didn’t really “date” anyone seriously in high school, thus my innocent status upon graduation. It was easier that way, trust me. I gained experience in college but did not meet The One. I’ve never dated anyone that did not have any experience with a long-term relationship, but I’ve had friends that have and it was not pretty. I try not to judge a person because they’ve never been married or have kids, cause I am so not in a position to judge on that. What matters to me is the entire “body of work” so to speak. If they’ve been in some bad relationships, did they learn from them and are they over them? Are they a goood father to the kids they have? Is there any inappropriate contact with any exes? If those check out well, I have to judge them on how they are with ME. That’s all I really have to go on.

The BET awards are always a hot mess to me. They are always just a step up from a high school auditorium or gym, with high school seniors producing it. Always ghetto to me. But what do you expect from a sellout network? That’s always been my beef with BET – not the business decision to sell them, but the quality which has always been sorely lacking.
I knew the world would be paying attention to the awards last night because of MJ.
I do understand, SCool, about artists and how they live in a different world though. You don’t tune into the BET awards or even the Grammy’s expecting folks to be dressed and acting like they are at the Kennedy Center or the Oscars. So I fully expect the wild outfits & haircuts and crazy performances. But the production, the sets, the timing, lighting, etc are always sub-par with BET. And there ARE folks out there that are skilled at that type of thing that they could hire. When are they going to get it together?!!

I had no problem with Joe being there. They were doing a tribute to his son and it was nice to have someone there from the family to support. I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to see his mother there sad and crying through the whole thing.
There are issues there. Janet didn’t acknowledge him or ask him to come up on stage. They probably want Joe around as little as possible so send him to the awards show. Clearly he has an ulterior motive for being there anyway.

More from me on Tiny – I just think she is interesting. Mostly, because she doesn’t fit the ‘usual’ standard of celebrity and instead seems to personify the term ghetto fabulous.
But you know what, I don’t know what this woman has been through at this point in her life to make her who she is. I had one eye on about two seconds of the preview show that they did last night and I do know that the fact that she is dealing with her father having Alzheimer’s humanzied her for me in some way. Also, seeing Toya get on her mom about her lifestyle said a lot to me as well.
Regardless of what our personal opinions are about these chicks, they are going for theirs. Maybe in a way that we don’t agree with, support or the embarasses us “As Black People”, but their getting ish done. And coming from the backgrounds that they do, they get mad props for that alone. So, what if it’s for being somebody’s baby’s momma?
And WHEN are we going to stop making entertainers the representatives for all of BLACK people? Naw, all black women aren’t Tiny and Toya, but we know some. It’s whatever….Breathe, Shake and let some of that tension go. If you don’t wanna watch it, turn the channel.
Only GOD can judge.

If Joe can’t show no emotion bout losing one of his youngest, that tells me more about what kind of “man” he is(not).
Dan – Are you with him 24/7? Good grief. Some folks are simply more stoic than others. Some folks have gone thru so much, or have dealt with enough death that they don’t turn in to basket cases. Some folks recognize that sometimes death is a better solution than life because that person is hopefully in a better place. And that brings comfort.
Sorry he didn’t perform for you on command.

Amred- I agree. I just had an issue with him promoting his new business, kinda tacky. But everyone does grieve differently. Don’t manufacture any tears to put on a show for tv.
Personally, I don’t think ALL the blame for the messed up childrearing should be put on Joe. She stood around and allowed him to abuse her kids and continued producing more kids with him. I know I would not let any husband of mine abuse my kids. It’s my job to protect them, even if its from their own dad. He would have H— to pay.

for folks my age, i think they make a difference. if you’re 30+ and you haven’t had at least one significant relationship that left you boo-hooing on the sofa clutching a bottle of 80 proof liquor, you’ve been doing this love thing ALL wrong. i can COMPLETELY understand never being married by 30 or 40. but if you haven’t had a relationship with someone you thought might be The One or one that left you so heartbroken that you vowed to NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN IN LIFE love again, like i said: you’re doing it wrong.
my relationship with The Dodged Bullet created some serious emotional baggage for me. that’s why he’s got that nickname. what’s weird is that The Intended met him and wondered whether he really cared about me. and he didn’t. plus he had kids. and while i understood that his kids would always be his #1 priority, he made it clear that i would never even be #1b.

SCool Dang. Yeah I remember those moments. Ever got a whuppin’ when you’ve just gotten out of the tub and not fully dried off yet?!?! Maaaannn! My grandmother just scared the Buh-G’zus out of us, when she’d go into the kitchen drawer and grab a big butcher knife, go outside underneath that big ‘ol oak tree, and cut down several limbs. Just watching her do it and my cousins and I were running for cover. She didn’t say a word either…well until, she came back in from the back porch…and why do they “talk atcha” while beatin’ yo’ butt??? LOL…and it was sort of to a rhythm almost. Shoot, and she never worried about running out of limbs, she had back up, which is why she gathered so many at a time. Some of them were so “wicked looking” they reminded you of the serpent transforming into Moses’ staff in the Bible. Lol
My youngest got her lil legs tapped with her great grandmother’s switch for the first time when she was 2 yrs old. I remember coming by to pick her up and she just dived into my lap, covering her face with the palm of her hands, and shamefully telling me in her little munchkin voice —> Mommie, Gah’ma whip me with dat’ “witch”… I tried not to laugh, but it was kind of funny. Well, one thing is for sure…there is a market for shows like “Toya & Tiny”…it may be a sad commentary about what ppl want to watch…but there are young chicks out there who truly want to emulate that lifestyle, etc…oh well…one show that I will not be tuning into…I have nothing in common with them…not my cup of tea…lol.
Yepper, Madoff got 150 years…awww…too bad…oh well to that too…now what is his “poor” little wifey gonna do????
And as far a Joe Jackson not showing any emotion…ppl deal with grief in their own way…not everyone is into public displays of grieving…we do not know what is going on behind the scenes…as it should be…it is not our concern…let us all just hope that they find some measure of closure that is beneficial to them all…you could tell that Janet was still in a state of shock and uncertainty…even if he was not Michael Jackson the King of Pop…he was someone’s son, brother, father, friend, nephew, uncle, etc and any family experiencing a loss of a loved one needs time to process the entirety of the loss and the grief.

I’m not asking anyone to “perform”.
The fact is, being stoic or repressed, is not healthy. That grief is going to come out in some way, at some time, and while it’s on the individual to let that out; I just can’t see a man sit for three hours and look more mad than hurt about the loss of his child – regardless of his stoicism.
I don’t think it’s healthy or natural.
As for Ciara. I know she can sing, I just think she could have benefitted in her performance with a little more practice.
And Beyonce hurts me more than anything. Her “Ave Maria” rendition was sooooo on point, not a note out of pitch or key. And yet she sings “bootylicious”….just wow

Now, I can say that I’ve heard Tiny speak…and I have to say, really doesn’t bother me as much, especially since I’ve heard A LOT worse. And what T.I’s found in her, is worth a helluva lot more and will definitely outlast those who have been blessed tremendously in regards to outter beauty. As it has been said before, every man does not want himself and Haaallleeey Beeerrrraaayyy or Beyonce. Heyal, of all of the women T.I. could have “bawt” (bought), he’d rather have himself a “Tameka” .
…and no matter how nice looking that I may think that I am, not every man wants himself a “Jamoca” (shake) Lol…heyal, just because he likes what he sees, doesn’t mean that he’s willing to “play for keeps”…knee-grow, may just wanna play. hmph…Jamoca now handing dude a bowl of Trix cereal and a tablespoon…”knock ya’ self out”
Cee Hope that you received my message, chica.
M’ I hear you loud and clear on that…regarding some little girls ready on the mark to mimick what they see. My oldest would often come back telling me of all kinds of discussions some of her peers from school would have and questions they’d ask her. Like how does she know so much about the human reproductive system and contraceptives??? Her reply: “My mama, that’s who!” LOL…but we’ve had some heated discussions while sitting back shaking our heads at some of their aspirations to not only make it a point to NOT get pregnant at young ages and unmarried (now looking within myself), but sadly they feel like 16 or 17 is a good age for family planning??? We just shake our heads. No dreams and/or goals of college or anything beyond graduating, if that. She’s in amazement when she hears such things and she should be. However, at the same token…I am not surprised. So I continue to stay in that child’s ear, encouraging her and keeping her busy.

I’m grown, but who said being grown meant not having fun? Loosen up people.
Two of my girlfriends are planning weddings and they have ruled out all line dancing like the Cupid Shuffle and the electric slide. Them heffas are usually out there as soon as the song comes on! And one loves making her leg stanky!
Folks line dance at weddings. Heck, look at The Best Man! Why are they tryin to be all uptight now.

BEING SINGLE
The Art of Contentment. For most of us, being single will be more of a phase than a final destination. This is the best place to practice the art of contentment. Someday, I’m sure most of us will fall in love and get married. But the thing is, love will always be tested. Someone more handsome, beautiful, more charming, richer, funnier, sweeter would come along. If you have not practiced the art of contentment as a single person, chances are you would be tempted to want that and not cherish your chosen one. Practicing the Art of Contentment as a single person means that you take what life gives you, good or bad, you’re willing to see it through. It means you don’t walk away everytime things get tough because it builds in you patience, perseverance, understanding and a hundred different virtues that people in a hurry will never have. Being single means you would find how it feels to be alone thus, allowing you to cherish every moment you spend with your chosen one. The art of contentment means you wouldn’t mind if life had to make you wait for so long to find the love of your life, because you know that the waiting would only make the finding much sweeter.
Being single is a time of your life when you can get to know yourself better. You can pursue different interest and passions without having to ask another person’s approval. It is a phase when you can keep focus on other things, discover your potentials and talents, and see yourself become more than what you expect to be. Allow yourself to surprise you. Stop wasting precious energy trying to figure out why you’re still romantically unattached. It’s all in the mind. Take the time to go see your friends, spend time with your family, do charity work and you will realize that you are not, and never for one moment, was alone. Try to get to know yourself first before you try to get to know other people. To be truly loved means to be known and accepted for who you are. How do you expect other people to know you and to love you, when you don’t know who and what you really are?
Sometimes the dilemmas we face are not between what is absolutely bad and absolutely good. Sometimes, it’s between good and best. Treat this stage of your life as a phase to evaluate who is good for you and who is best for you. Sometimes, you won’t hear music, or feel magic to know who’s best for you. The heart just knows and it doesn’t need any romantically charged scenario to decide on the matter. Trust in your heart, and trust that time will eventually lead you to, not to the perfect partner, but to the most suitable partner for you. Being single is a phase of life that we need to be thankful for, because being single means our hearts have yet to choose the best one for us. Take your time, the world will wait. Being married doesn’t guarantee that it will make your life happy. It doesn’t guarantee anything at all. Sometimes, it only brings two miserable people together only to make their life even more miserable. Without the right intention, the emotional maturity, financial security and of course, unwavering love, you’re better off unattached.
Living Life. Don’t put your life on hold for Mr. and Mrs. Right, but don’t let it waste away with Mr.or Mrs. Wrong. Life is about things that you do and happen to you everyday. It’s not about the things that could have happened but never did, or things that you think would happen in the future. Live life now. Live it to the fullest and stop beating yourself up, trying to be perfect on a Saturday night date. Allow life to surprise you with it’s most wonderful blessings.

I ain’t tryna be funny but……..If the lady has never been married, that raises a red flag for me, i.e., has she been “high maintenance”, is she a “biotch” and every man that has been involved with ran.
You’re out there dating in the 40+ range as well (as the lady)…and still…soooo why the laundry list of what to watch out for? Maybe it’s me and maybe it’s Monday but such a standard when you’re doing the same thing as she is and would she not be inclined to look through the same window back at you with the same questions. Heck it ain’t like it’s a fresh start in life. Yeah, I could see some of those questions if everyone is at the starting gate but by the time you’re 40+, you’re still asking all the questions…while still dating yourself? I guess I just don’t get it.
Not tryna be nasty, but just wondering sometimes at the things people think and say

M’ most young ppl stray from goals, discipline and good sense decision making because they do not have someone in there ear to speak to them. <— I was one of them myself and I do not hesitate to remind her of that as well. Prevalent, but still inexcusable…but also in the same breath, one cannot pretend to be oblivious to the fact that it IS/WAS part of the equation…so we must factor that in to get the big picture. But I will admit, one of the hardest things for me to adjust to: her entering adulthood and knowing she’s been taught well, but also being realistic enough to know she’s going to make some mistakes…and there won’t be a thang I can do to stop her. Sigh However, I’m constantly repeating “Treas’…you always have a choice…you make not like your options, but doggone’it, you have them. So pick wisely.” And a lot of times, the best decision is the hardest to make…such is life.

PG – You’ve been studying too hard.
Your sentences aren’t making much sense.
Yes, we were wary of StubHub when they came on the scene. Especially when I used to work with the Falcons. They started securing sponsorship deals that conflicted with some existing agreements (like with Ticketmaster!) they had in place. It was hard to enforce scalping laws when you could walk right up to Falcons Landing and pick up your Stub Hub tickets at one of the booths.
I believe they worked it all out. Ticketmaster also has a resell feature, but StubHub is blowing them away. Which is funny because most folks buy their tix on Ticketmaster and end up selling them on Stub Hub rather than reselling them back on Ticketmaster.

I’m sorry. I got a grand total of 4 hours of sleep for the whole weekend.
One of the wife’s friends called us on Saturday night needing a safe place to sleep. She and her Nigerian boyfriend got into a a serious fight. We spent a time in Crawford Long ER with her. Her actually broke her nose, and gave her a black eye.
I dunno why every one calls us. But we do have a guest room. Actually, we bought her a Greyhound ticket and she is on her way back to Cleveland, OH. (Her hometown and where her mom stays). It is a holiday week and she already had this week for vacation. (Bad way to spend vacation)

I didn’t think that you lived in the city limits. I thought that it was just us.
Well, I would rather that happen than the furloughs to continue. Luckily, I live near a firestation. But, others are not so lucky.
It is really frustrating to need something from the City and have them closed. Thye’ve been closed on Fridays.

I agree that the furloughs must end. I think I’d rather a sales tax hike. I’d like all the folks who live in the burbs and play in the city to be accountable too. I’d like those people who drive in from other counties other than Fulton and DeKalb and use MARTA to be on the hook for it’s upkeep too.

I agree with that very much. I know folks that live in Gwinnett and catch the train at the Doraville station. So, they are mooching off of Fulton and DeKalb’s support of MARTA. I nominate AR for City council.
Also, I think that all of the Atlanta Metropolitan counties should support Grady Hospital The fact that DeKalb and Fulton support the hospital that takes in people from Douglas, Clayton, Gwinnett, Cobb, etc. that can’t pay their medical bills.

As for MARTA, I think that I see where they are headed in regards to fees. The Breeze card system already asks that someone taps as the enter the system and out as they leave. Eventually, they can charge by distance. Some train systems already charge by distance. So, someone leaving the Doraville station may end up paying more than someone leaving from Lindbergh.

This is what i asked. “How would a person be taxed if your property value is devalued?”
Your answer: “If you don’t BUY in the city you don’t have to worry about paying such a tax.”
…i’d rather you use the non-answer preference because all the extra about MARTA & shopping/services was already noted in my intial response.

Cemeeli – I don’t know what the heck you are talking about. Your questions are all over the place.
You asked how could you be taxed for a city you don’t live in. If you are talking about property taxes, you won’t.
I was talking about a sales tax. Why don’t you quit talking in circles and just get to your point or move on.

Melo…don’t read more into it…we had a GREAT sex life and was together allll the time…no street running tolerated. Not tryna brag but seriously (and not that I’ve always come out on time in a relationship) but as mentioned before on here, that was the one that took me about 6 or 7 years to really shake…for good…seriously….member getting my skirt pulled before getting in the door…that was him.
My point though was in reference to the statement. It was funny to read because he’d say it from time to time. Like I said, in retrospect and just having lived and learned, I’m more than certain some of the times…”hanging with his boys” wasn’t always “beer and wings” or “shooting hoops”, given the state of a man’s mind at the tender age of about 22 or 23 when all you do is drink, sleep and eat…azz. No he was never lacking in the “getting his needs met” department, heck he saw to that. I washed, cooked, cleaned….and stayed sexed up. Better yet, he was a chef and most of my cooking was learned (from him). That was something he actually enjoyed doing. Now cleaning behind himself was another story but me being all domesticated and stuff (lol), I did my share.
You missed the point mayne.

You live in Cobb, right Tazzee? That’s right, support your county.
I just think raising property taxes hurts the folks who live in the city when there are way more folks than that using it’s amenities. In addition, raised property taxes will just discourage more folks from buying in the city in the first place.
A sales tax will hit the residents and the visitors from our neighboring suburbs!

Never forget that the state has its hand in your tax bill as well. They can add tax rate increase through the county (which is how it is usually done) for living in the state.
You never own the property on which you live. You own the structures, and a bundle of rights that come with that parcel. But never the physical land itself. That is what allows for eminent domain. It remains the government’s physical. Property taxes are really a charge for them letting you to live on the physical property.

If you have the money, you can buy a parcel of land. I see that all the time.
Even with eminent domain, if you own the land (and not land value, but the actual plot of dirt) the government has to compensate you for any action taken under ED

Cee – Lmao. Some of them have no clue bout them egg sammiches…
Melo – Seriously though…cooking for the man, before I smuck his brains out, will not keep him there. I’m realistic enough to know, that you cannot “keep” someone that doesn’t want to be kept. It doesn’t matter how much I toe the line (not to say that I’ll start slacking)…however, I’d rather the man make up his own mind outside of just gettin’ good pu$$y & eatin’ good. I’d hope that he can see that I have more to offer than just those two.

Another good point.
Tourists will also take that hit. I remember going to Miami or Vegas or somewhere and paying 10% sales tax! You accept it though because you want to visit that particular city.
Atlanta is no Vegas or Miami though, and I know convention organizers consider those things when chosing locales.

The fifth amendment makes for the compensation claim.
It is speaks towards the bundle of rights not the physical land. Speaking towards property rights of the right to invite anyone that you’d like or exclude folks from property.
It also applies to intellectual property.
It is more about the rights than the physical property.
The legal definition of property is a bundle of rights.
