Not new to this

Single people can be a creative bunch. We come up with the most unique excuses reasons not to date someone. I’m talking about the “relationship resume” that some people prefer to be long, detailed, and has proof of commitment. You say you are a good candidate? We’re going to need references!

While some prefer not to date a previously married person, others would just like someone who is not new to the relationship thing. I can admit that dating someone with no real relationship experience can be challenging.

You may have to become a virtual relationship guide and exercise a little more patience. It’s not necessarily impossible to do but I am pretty sure the inexperienced person would have to put up with something too. That’s why it’s called a relationship.

Do you think those post high school and college relationships really make a big difference in our relationship resume? What do you think is important in a person’s dating history?

What was the relationship from your past that you think helped make you a better person?

Which one do you think actually created some emotional baggage for you?

Would it bother you if you were dating someone who has never had a long-term relationship before?

I want to remind you that the Misadventures in Atlanta blog will be closed on Friday.

Happy Monday!

And that’s the number one thing (could be the only thing) I like about Tiny…she stands by her man and supports him in all that he does. She appears to be a great support system for him.

More from me on Tiny – I just think she is interesting. Mostly, because she doesn’t fit the ‘usual’ standard of celebrity and instead seems to personify the term ghetto fabulous.

But you know what, I don’t know what this woman has been through at this point in her life to make her who she is. I had one eye on about two seconds of the preview show that they did last night and I do know that the fact that she is dealing with her father having Alzheimer’s humanzied her for me in some way. Also, seeing Toya get on her mom about her lifestyle said a lot to me as well.

Regardless of what our personal opinions are about these chicks, they are going for theirs. Maybe in a way that we don’t agree with, support or the embarasses us “As Black People”, but their getting ish done. And coming from the backgrounds that they do, they get mad props for that alone. So, what if it’s for being somebody’s baby’s momma?

And WHEN are we going to stop making entertainers the representatives for all of BLACK people? Naw, all black women aren’t Tiny and Toya, but we know some. It’s whatever….Breathe, Shake and let some of that tension go. If you don’t wanna watch it, turn the channel.

Only GOD can judge.

If Joe can’t show no emotion bout losing one of his youngest, that tells me more about what kind of “man” he is(not).

Dan – Are you with him 24/7? Good grief. Some folks are simply more stoic than others. Some folks have gone thru so much, or have dealt with enough death that they don’t turn in to basket cases. Some folks recognize that sometimes death is a better solution than life because that person is hopefully in a better place. And that brings comfort.

Sorry he didn’t perform for you on command.

If that’s not who you are, don’t perform for the cameras.

Amred- I agree. I just had an issue with him promoting his new business, kinda tacky. But everyone does grieve differently. Don’t manufacture any tears to put on a show for tv.

Personally, I don’t think ALL the blame for the messed up childrearing should be put on Joe. She stood around and allowed him to abuse her kids and continued producing more kids with him. I know I would not let any husband of mine abuse my kids. It’s my job to protect them, even if its from their own dad. He would have H— to pay.

Some men are from the school that men dont cry or show emotion..not that its right

At my big brothers funeral..My dad didnt cry nor did me or my other four brothers…but my sister and step mom did..we got home later and shot basketball and bbq’d..My dad is an excellent dad in my eyes

Earlier this year at my lil brothers funeral- My dad didnt cry again nor did me or my other 3 brothers..but my sister and my step mom did again..we played spades and sat around telling jokes..then went fishing the next morning…

MO:[Laughter] I know – I was like, “Baby bump? As hard as I work on my abs?!”

O: By the way, nobody would be happier if you were pregnant than Gayle King. Out of nowhere, she’ll tell me, “Oh God. I really hope Michelle gets pregnant – and that it’s a boy!”

for folks my age, i think they make a difference. if you’re 30+ and you haven’t had at least one significant relationship that left you boo-hooing on the sofa clutching a bottle of 80 proof liquor, you’ve been doing this love thing ALL wrong. i can COMPLETELY understand never being married by 30 or 40. but if you haven’t had a relationship with someone you thought might be The One or one that left you so heartbroken that you vowed to NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN IN LIFE love again, like i said: you’re doing it wrong.

my relationship with The Dodged Bullet created some serious emotional baggage for me. that’s why he’s got that nickname. what’s weird is that The Intended met him and wondered whether he really cared about me. and he didn’t. plus he had kids. and while i understood that his kids would always be his #1 priority, he made it clear that i would never even be #1b.

SCool Dang. Yeah I remember those moments. Ever got a whuppin’ when you’ve just gotten out of the tub and not fully dried off yet?!?! Maaaannn! My grandmother just scared the Buh-G’zus out of us, when she’d go into the kitchen drawer and grab a big butcher knife, go outside underneath that big ‘ol oak tree, and cut down several limbs. Just watching her do it and my cousins and I were running for cover. She didn’t say a word either…well until, she came back in from the back porch…and why do they “talk atcha” while beatin’ yo’ butt??? LOL…and it was sort of to a rhythm almost. Shoot, and she never worried about running out of limbs, she had back up, which is why she gathered so many at a time. Some of them were so “wicked looking” they reminded you of the serpent transforming into Moses’ staff in the Bible. Lol

My youngest got her lil legs tapped with her great grandmother’s switch for the first time when she was 2 yrs old. I remember coming by to pick her up and she just dived into my lap, covering her face with the palm of her hands, and shamefully telling me in her little munchkin voice —> Mommie, Gah’ma whip me with dat’ “witch”… I tried not to laugh, but it was kind of funny. Straightened her right up too.

Well, one thing is for sure…there is a market for shows like “Toya & Tiny”…it may be a sad commentary about what ppl want to watch…but there are young chicks out there who truly want to emulate that lifestyle, etc…oh well…one show that I will not be tuning into…I have nothing in common with them…not my cup of tea…lol.

Yepper, Madoff got 150 years…awww…too bad…oh well to that too…now what is his “poor” little wifey gonna do????

And as far a Joe Jackson not showing any emotion…ppl deal with grief in their own way…not everyone is into public displays of grieving…we do not know what is going on behind the scenes…as it should be…it is not our concern…let us all just hope that they find some measure of closure that is beneficial to them all…you could tell that Janet was still in a state of shock and uncertainty…even if he was not Michael Jackson the King of Pop…he was someone’s son, brother, father, friend, nephew, uncle, etc and any family experiencing a loss of a loved one needs time to process the entirety of the loss and the grief.

Dan

@ARed

I’m not asking anyone to “perform”.

The fact is, being stoic or repressed, is not healthy. That grief is going to come out in some way, at some time, and while it’s on the individual to let that out; I just can’t see a man sit for three hours and look more mad than hurt about the loss of his child – regardless of his stoicism.

I don’t think it’s healthy or natural.

As for Ciara. I know she can sing, I just think she could have benefitted in her performance with a little more practice.

And Beyonce hurts me more than anything. Her “Ave Maria” rendition was sooooo on point, not a note out of pitch or key. And yet she sings “bootylicious”….just wow

M’ – :( At least Tiny used her talent and parlayed that into a brief career with Xscape. I’m not sure what this Toya chick has done.

Wyclef was probably the most inspirational of the night, reminding us all that he went from a hut, to the projects to a mansion. And kept helping others along the way. I hope the lil knuckleheads were listening and knowing it’s possible.

NO one here seems to have noticed that someone at BET is making small steps toward making non-celebritites and atheletes stand out in the black community. THey did recognize several doctors, the mayor from Mississippi, and some college students during the show… it was a small step in the right direction at least… Whom ever pushed for them to include that bit of recognition should be praised as well.
