Sexual orientation can be a touchy topic among single people on the dating scene. Some people want to know immediately; some try to guess, while others make a fool of themselves with assumptions. Do you think it is rude and impolite to inquire about sexual orientation?
I am a pretty friendly person so a lot of times I like to get clarification about whether I am engaging in friendly chat with a stranger or if we are checking each other out for potential romance, number exchange, or whatever. I have simply asked outright. Not in a malicious way or to offend, I just put it out there so I can get clarity: Do you date women, men, or both?
Do you ask people their orientation when you first meet them? Have you ever been asked the “which team are you playing for” type of question? How did you react?
I have known women who consider themselves bisexual. I am not sure if it means anything, but they currently are seeking/are in relationships with men. Their attraction for women is still there and they openly tell men about their past experiences and it does not seem to impede them.
Guys, what do you think about women who have had relationships with both genders? Could you see yourself in a serious relationship with one?
Ladies, if a man admitted to having prior experiences with other men, is that an immediate turn off for you? Do you feel comfortable discussing this type of thing with someone you are getting to know?
What do you think about sexual labels: straight, gay, bisexual..etc. Are they necessary or not important?
Touchy topic, so let’s keep the discussion adult and clean.

I’m sorry Poppa — I misunderstood your earlier posting…I thought you said that those who hide it don’t hurt society; I was making the point that they truly hurt themselves. Having re-read your comment, I agree that it is also hurtful to society for gay people to not be honest about who they are.
Dan, I completely understand why many black people are uncomfortable with the comparison to gay rights. I think it is one of the most distasteful aspects of our movement that we are so quick to say, “well it’s just like if the KKK said to black people,” or “This is no different than what Hitler did to the Jews.” These are lazy arguments that turn off more people than they convert.
I think comparisons come so naturally, mainly because the arguments used against gay rights are the same that were used against blacks. Read about Loving v. Virginia, or Brown v. Board of Education…The arguments are identical (i.e. protect the children, God’s plan, yadda yadda), and so often times it’s important to inform folks that you were wrong back then, and you are wrong now.
Finally, the black civil rights movement in America was one of the most successful social justice campaigns on the face of the earth, and shines as an example for all peoples who are striving for liberation: women, gays, Iranians, the list goes on. We must continue to use the valuable lessons that the Civil Rights Movement has offered, while not pretending that our struggle is the same.

Dude, that’s exactly what I’m telling you. I’ve seen, w/ my own 2 eyes, a male dog mount & hump another male dog — and this same dog shows no interest in the female dogs. Now, I didn’t get in there to check if there was any actual penetration happening, but hey — even dry-humping another male dog seemed gay enough to me…
I’m just sayin’…

But blah,
Those that make that comparison are using a flawed logic.
Prime example: even at the signing of the Declaration, Black people were not people we were counted at that time as 3/5 of a person = less than human (which is what bugs me about PETA, but that’s a whole nuther story).
In today’s society your rights as an individual (couple) are being quesitoned, not your humanity. Not your right to exist.
Black people have fought to be considered people first, members of society 2nd, and equal members of society 3rd.
No gay person has had that struggle.
So in that respect, they are NOT the same.
Add that corrollary to the “lazy argument” column

Mr Hughes – Well call me small-minded then, because past behavior does matter to me when something could potentially kill me. The only protection that is fool-proof is abstinence. Also, again call me small-minded because putting all the potential HIV aside, I am of the mindset that once a guy has “gone there”, there’s always the possibility. I can’t fullfill a guy like another guy can. I only have experience being a woman, being with men. And I don’t buy the young & curious argument either, cause I don’t have to try jumping off a cliff to know it will kill me & I knew that at a very young age.
So I wear the small-minded title with pride when it comes to this subject and my health. And I’m entitled to my opinion and how I chose to run my life. I don’t live that lifestyle but I don’t knock others that do. I stay in my lane.

@BLAH/KYM – I think the only point I was trying to make with regards to being gay and being black is that DISCRIMINATION of any kind has a negative affect upon the recipient. I agree with Blah, one’s sexual orientation CAN be hidden to avert those discriminations and skin color can not be. However, in both instances, hate crimes do occur, jobs are denied, adoptions are denied, possibly financing is denied (although I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this one but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened) housing is denied, etc…. the end result is the same – regardless of the type of discrimination. Its still discrimination – which – constitutionally – is illegal.

Well now, women wouldn’t expect a truthful answer about whether a man was bi because they themselves would be most inclined to lie and be secretive about anything that would negatively reflect upon them. Chicks are the champeens of portraying what they want to be perceived as rather than what they are.
Big surprise, a DL man might show some feminine qualities, in just the same way.

I don’t believe there is a gene that pre-determines a person to be gay. It is a decision that one can make at anytime. The comparsion of the gay plight to AA is just an attempt to justify their choice. A GAY PERSON WILL NOT DIE IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO BE GAY!! Those feelings that are being talked about are manfested by that person because they don’t want to face the consequences of their choice.
Now I have a couple of questions for you Blah,
1. Why is it so important to you that I know you are gay?
2. With the divorce laws written the way that they are why do you want the state to recognize your marriage?
3. What do you suggest a hetro person do when gay people show PDA in front of their children especially if they are not old enough to have had the sex talk?

Because now all guys want to do is sleep with me. They’re not even subtle about it anymore or disguise it up with dating first! I’m not even trying to have sex at all now, cuz really it’s lost its appeal.
Then to top it off, my friend’s boyfriend hit on me and that just sucks. I’m pissed.
