Flip the script

I suppose it was inevitable that President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama would be come an iconic couple. A lot has been written about their date nights, affection towards one another in public, and the history of how they came to be.

It all brings a discussion about love, romance, and marriage, especially among African Americans that sheds some light on our attitudes. One particular article that has made its rounds on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites is from the Washington’s Post interactive site, The Root. It was entitled What Single Women Can Learn from Michelle.

Of course it doused gasoline on an already hot fire of debate between men and women, which is always annoying fun and informative.  I actually thought the article made some excellent points. I just thought it would be vindictive fun and informative to flip the script a little:

What can single men learn from President Obama?

Do you think that we place too much blame on each other for the state of dating, marriage, and divorce?

Are we not all culpable when things don’t succeed?

Is it important for society to have a couple for us to believe in love and romance? Is it to give the children hope or are the grown ups clinging to the idea too?

*Note this is not an opportunity to bash First Lady Michelle Obama. Let’s keep things adult.

Sam Cooke – A Change is Gonna Come.

Saturday – I was in two totally different places – at the Birthday Bounce Party place outside the flea mall on Tara Boulevard and later at the Goodwill in West End. I heard that song in both places. I felt a calm from deep within my spirit. It was confirmation.

I’ve had some big expectations of some wonderful things to happen in my life in the near future. I don’t know exactly when change is coming. I just know that it is.

What can single men learn from President Obama?”
“What Single Women Can Learn from Michelle.”

Are you freaking kidding me WD?! Okay most of the topic’s that are come up with are pretty lame, but this is a cake taker. Anyone who tries to base a relationship off of someone else’s, need to leave wonderland and go out there and get there feet wet its the only way. The Obama’s are not going to help you find love, nor can anyone, it’s up to you. I never understood why so many people seek advice, read books, go to groups, all for the Holy Grail called “love”. Sheesh does mommy and daddy need to hold your hand for everything? Love is like God, no one can show you it or find it for you, you have to find it on your own. But if you want to look to others for since of false hope be my guest. Now if you will excuse me, I am going to bash my skull into a concrete wall in hopes that I will forget eye-sore of a topic.

Disclaimer: this was in no offense to the Obama’s (I know how some of you like to assume)

Poppa, as far a DJIA, the days of figuring that long term stocks will always be worth more are over. Average over the past 10 years nets a 30% decline. It’s going to crash again. It’s not a valid measure of recovery. Media and government portraying it as if it is is just another example of the fat cats wanting to get fatter — because historically, and I mean the past more than 50 years, the insiders and big money are the only ones that made sufficient dough in the stock market. You won’t retire on that.

Yall going off on a bunch of pop song lyrics! Apropos to today’s side topics, I submit Abbey Lincoln’s singing of ‘Mendacity’, with Max Roach on drums and Eric Dolphy on alto sax, circa 1961.

Mendacity, Mendacity,
It thrives from coast to coast.
The winner’s not the one who’s great
but he who lies the most.

I too do not like Ribbon in the Sky. Another one I don’t like is “Anniversary” by Jodeci. There’s not to the song, absolutely NOTHING. Over and over, “it’s your anniversary,” DUH, I know this already! Listening to that song is like scratching your nails on a chalkboard.

RAQI…”“now you have your own baggage”…now that was too cute! Does she look like him or you..or could it be her late granny that you loved so much?

W8…”Say Yes”, got me in trouble with my ex. That song came on at his place and our first-6th time happened. Followed by shifted organs in the morning! Ugh…the pain!

JAMOCHA…OMG…I LOVED Intro! Why Kenny why? Rest his soul.

Hey…I love the group Nine Inch Nails….my favorite song by them is “Closer”

You let me violate you, you let me desecrate you
You let me penetrate you, you let me complicate you
Help me I broke apart my insides, help me Ive got no
Soul to tell
Help me the only thing that works for me, help me get
Away from myself
I want to f**k you like an animal
I want to feel you from the inside
I want to f**k you like an animal
My whole existence is flawed
You get me closer to god
