I suppose it was inevitable that President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama would be come an iconic couple. A lot has been written about their date nights, affection towards one another in public, and the history of how they came to be.
It all brings a discussion about love, romance, and marriage, especially among African Americans that sheds some light on our attitudes. One particular article that has made its rounds on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites is from the Washington’s Post interactive site, The Root. It was entitled What Single Women Can Learn from Michelle.
Of course it doused gasoline on an already hot fire of debate between men and women, which is always annoying fun and informative. I actually thought the article made some excellent points. I just thought it would be vindictive fun and informative to flip the script a little:
What can single men learn from President Obama?
Do you think that we place too much blame on each other for the state of dating, marriage, and divorce?
Are we not all culpable when things don’t succeed?
Is it important for society to have a couple for us to believe in love and romance? Is it to give the children hope or are the grown ups clinging to the idea too?
*Note this is not an opportunity to bash First Lady Michelle Obama. Let’s keep things adult.

Correction – Al B Sure’s new cd that dropped today is called Honey, I’m Home. From the samples they played on Tom Joyner, looks like he has himself a winner. Babymaking for sure.
The Al Jarreau song I love is called I Will Be Here For You(Nitakungodea Milele) off the 1990 album Jarreau(digitally remastered this year). A lovely song about unconditional love: I will be here for you, when you’re falling. I am never far away, Zambia or Monterey, when you reach out for my love I’ll be there.

….okay, here’s (another)one:
Could it be your nice silky tone
Ohh..that makes me want you girl
Distant nights spent love on the phone
As I touch myself
How I want you more
The mood evokes
Incense smoke and I’m burning up in temperature
Ready to explode
Come take a toke
Let’s float
Baby on higher ground
[Chorus]
Baby come
Float with me
Let me take
You to a place on higher honey
Baby come
Float with me
Face to face
Build a body of fire honey
[Repeat]
[Verse II]
Could it be your sweet sweet moan
While I’m inside your world your world
A sudden glance that you give from across the room
Come and take control yeah
Open up my favorite bottle
Let the wind blow
Create an atmosphere
Stay right here
Listen to the rain
Your handprints on the window pane
And its burning me up with the desire ohh..
[Bridge]
When I think about it
I don’t want to be without it
Baby grab a hold
Feel me in your soul
Forever more climb on
You beong to me

RaqiLurker that’s what I am aiming for. I imagine your parents like mine had many hills and valleys they had to travel but they stayed on that road and look where they are now. 52/7 Wow. That is 655 months. 2,836+ weeks. 19,920+ days. Do you know how many hours that is???
Not certain how many hours but I’m sure it felt like a life time for them. Seeing how it all came to an end last month, I can say I’m pretty proud of them. Yes, we witnessed MANY hills and valleys but I often believe the one who loves the hardest is always the first to go. My pops loved my mom so, gheesh, that I don’t think he could have dealt if she would have passed first. I tell you with a buttload of kids spousal bonding can be hard but they found a favorite past time and their way of intimacy through a weekly ritual of going to the pancake house (after all the kids were fed) around 11:00 pm-ish, sharing a plate and drinking rounds of coffee while talking until about 3 or 4am-ish. That was done religiously EVERY Friday, void of children.
I see here of late, tons of articles as it relates to love and relationship the how tos and what to dos versus the what nots, having togetherness, lessons on this that and the other when frankly, it ain’t as hard as we’re making it. If the key components of trust and honesty are there, love and togetherness and the ability to stick will never run a distant second. Problem being, most folks ain’t “all in.” All in is all in. We don’t need lessons on give and take. In real love, there’s a natural ebb and flow that no writer, professor, author, expert can advise. Maybe that’s what Michelle and Obama have. I know my folks did.

Does that process take longer than just having regular sex?
You know what my ex told our son and then told him to ask me what he meant by it. “It took my husband 8 years to do what it took him 8 months to do.” Arsehole.
And on a more pleasant note as I say my Good nights…
Every time we travel we always have to wait for one of our bags (meaning his) because they always get separated and every time I tell Mason that we need to get a new set of luggage that match so it would be easier to spot and likely to not get separated.
He is sitting on the couch holding Elizabeth and I jokingly went in and told him “now you have your own baggage”. He said “you have always said we should get matching bags”.
For those we get it, good. For those who don’t, sorry. LOL
Good night.

My wedding song (if I were to have one) is ‘Love You More’ by Angelo & Veronica. Her verse:
Once I loved you, now I love you better
What a feeling, when the feeling changed
I painted a mental picture
Colored with years of dreams
Of someone I’d long to see
Each night lying close to me
It’s your face
Beautiful song.

AmRed – that song was released in like 1996 or something like that and it’s been on my wedding song list ever since. Whenever folks would ask for a suggestion (as friends were getting married and I wasn’t) I’d suggest that song but no one liked it as much as me. Oh well to that.
As for me, I’ve already stated that I am NOT having a wedding – I’m too old for that and my $$ can be spent better elsewhere. Whenever folks tell me ‘NO! You have to have a wedding!’ I ask them if they are planning to pay for it

I remember playing that Lyzelin E Flat one day so long/many times. I got so caught up…I’m talking about i have that dress looking at me in the closest, and ya’ll it SPEAKS! I cain’t wear that dress anywhere or time.
That day i wore it, when i walked to my car (at dusk) right when the sun was setting, I let that moon roof back, played JILL SCOTT CD agian, with some sunglasses…and just dropped the car into the city with no regard…
Pretty sexy day.
