A successful guy once told me that if you meet a woman and she dosen’t respect her father….run…

All that to mean, if she can’t respect the man that helped bring her into the world, what makes you think she can/will respect you?

I dated a woman with Daddy issues and I suggest you leave them where they are…keep fishing in different waters!

not to sound bitter and wreck the happy vibes of this post, but my dad – and mom too – were failures in the healthy parenting department. only thing my dad has taught me about relationships is to be cynical, make my own dough, and don’t be afraid to show a n-word your crazy. it’s a problem when your relationship ethos is “don’t start none won’t be none,” lol.

he’s mellowed out now, but the damage is done. the effect of my childhood is a mixed blessing though. good thing is that i’m mad independent and headstrong. the downside is that i am also very self-protective and a bit co-dependent when do enter one. my therapist has a steady gig, yo.

Happy Friday All! We made it.

I love my Dad because he’s kept me off the pole and kept me from doing outrageous things to a man on a dance floor (I’m still in disbelief, sorry).

WiseDiva, I’m with you there.

Gosh, there aren’t enough words to express how awesome I think my Dad is. He didn’t have a Dad growing up, and he was ALWAYS there for us. Even those times in his marriage where it would have been easier to walk away. He knew nothing about raising daughters, yet he was always a shining example of manhood. He worked and came home and took care of his family. There was no clubbing, no man weekends, no drinking, no foolishness. EVER.

I don’t mind dismissing the misfits in my life, because I know what to look for in a man, and won’t accept ANYTHING that falls short.

Thank you Daddy!

I love my daddy because he’s just that…daddy. I wish I could type that we had this wonderful relationship when I was younger and that he taught me so many things about life, love and relationships, but I can’t. For many years I was angry because I felt he’d let me (us) down by not showing us what a “real” man looked like. But as I got older I realized that, he did the best he could with what he knew.

My grandfather passed away when my dad was 5 and not to speak ill of my grandmother but she had different men in and out of her and her children’s lives, so I’m not sure if there was ever anyone around to deposit “what it means to be a man” gems into my father’s life. When he decided to marry my mom (at 22)he had no clue what it was to be a husband or a father. Our relationship has been nothing short of rocky but I’ve learned to love him because regardless of his flaws, we never went without a place to lay our heads, food to eat or clothes on our back. There wasn’t a lot of affection but I know deep down he did/does love us. I wouldn’t trade my father for another because then I wouldn’t be me but I do wish things could’ve been different back then…that he would’ve said I love you more, spent more time with me and my sisters, been a better husband to my mom…but it is what it is. Whew! Didn’t mean to get this deep with my post.

I think my relationship with my dad has molded my behavior in relationships as anonymousella stated, I am very self-protective and a bit co-dependent when in relationships…not in a clingy type way but always searching for assurance that I’m loved and cared for.

With that being said, Happy Father’s Day to all the father’s who are loving, providing, and protecting their children every day. There’s a lot of pressure in this world and it’s not easy being a father but you do it because that’s your duty to your children…that’s a beautiful thing.

Reflections on My Daddy

My daddy is a mixed bag..on any given day he can be dependable and helpful, next day he can be aloof, missing in action. Come back the next day and be “mister can I borrow your car”. What I can say about him…he is, hard working(if it suits him), on the spot in a crisis, and loving.

See my daddy is not my biological dad, he married my mom when I was two and adopted me..so he is the only daddy I have known(saw my really dad a few times when I was teen-but thats a whole other Oprah). My daddy has had some hard time and made some crazy, unhealthy decisions(that is a whole other Oprah too) But when he and my mom split up and my mom got to sick to care for us. He fought for custody of me and my little sister. And with the help of my aunties and granny(for a bit) raised me and my sister(he learned to braid and plait hair.)

Now it has not always been gravy with my daddy, I gave him hell for a bit when I was a teen, drove the whole family to therapy once(my sister three or four times). But he stuck it out.

I credit my aunties with alot of things..but I always tell people my dad let me be me. He nurtured that independant part of me. Even now if I call and say “Daddy how do I light the pilot on the water heater?” He tells me how, and doesn’t run to my rescue. But he will if he has too. Also, my daddy gave me the opportunity to screw up. Some parents try to prevent the screw up but my daddy would give advice and watch you not take it..lesson learned.

I think when I look at all the men I have loved before..I always look for that stick to it quality,that my daddy has- which is rare as hell in men today. His pride gets in the way alot but he stays on the grind.
It is that willing to stay down even when stuff is sucking to hell(and it is a hell of his own making) that makes my daddy alright with me.

(Now watch he calls me and give me a reason to eat all these kind words this morning.)

How do you think our relationships with our fathers impact our dating and relationship habits?

My father told my brother and I(many years after my mom left him and they divorced) that he never wanted to be a husband or father and his treatment of our family showed as much. He was/is a momma’s boy who opted to take care of his mother and not his wife and children and what’s saddest is that his mother NEVER liked us and he NEVER asked her why? Anyhoo the things that a girl learns from her dad in regards to how to treat a woman and how a woman should be treated were things that I learned when I was ~21 when I moved to Atlanta. I’m not close to him at all but not b/c my siblings and I didn’t try but he just wasn’t intereste. Just last year his mom told me to leave and never come back as long as she was there and he just stood on the side and watched. So me being the hot tomale I am,in anger and hurt gave them both the finger and kept it moving.

Until I was about 27 or 28 I didn’t respect guys a whole lot and only used them for what I wanted at the time. I’ve met men who act like my sperm donor and I leave them alone with the quickness. When it comes to obvious mamas boys I don’t deal with them at all….fast forward to now and I realize that not all men are like my father and that relationships aren’t all bad. Now that I am single I can reflect on some of my past behaviors and see what I want in/for the future…..if that future includes a man cool but if not then I’ll still be okay. It’s all been a huge learning experience and although things aren’t how I would want them to be things are as they should be. You can’t make a man step up….you can’t.

I’m lucky that my father is really great. I don’t have any “daddy issues” and I get along quite well with him. My parents are still married, which I know people sometimes say is really uncommon nowadays, so I am thankful for that. They know I have always made good decisions and have never gotten into any trouble, so they trust me a lot and support me no matter what. Now, if I can just get my grandmother (my dad’s mother) to stop asking me “so, Page1908, how’s your love life”? LOL, ughhh do you know how embarassing that is! Sheesh! lol

Don’t forget us men who aren’t biological father’s yet, but do our best support the women in our lives when they have children, married or not.

When they’re ready to break “the news”, we get the phone calls. We’re at the baby showers bringing all kinds of gifts. Visiting and checking up on them during the pregnancy. Going to the hospital, before or after birth. Sometimes babysiting. Celebrating that BIG # 1 birthday. Ballet, football, basketball, baseball, cheerleading; we attend the activities.

Really, we are like that cool “uncle” or “cousin” that treated like a niece or nephew who you thought was blood family because they were always around, but decades later found out he is just a good friend of the family — yeah, that’s us!

We have no children of own on, but we love kids and deeply desire to be parents. So thank you the mother’s and FATHER’S who share their kids with those who don’t!

AmRed yes and no. Yes b/c we kinda knew that already but he never had the heart/ballz to say it…so at least he finally verbalized what we knew. No b/c we still didn’t understand why he let his mother shyt on his wife and children and not defend us…whether he wanted the responsibilty or not WE had/have HIS name and owed us that much,at least. No AmRed b/c he has at least 6-7 OTHER children that he’s doing the same thing to. I have a two half-sisters(one 34 and the other 13…by tow different women of course) who are both suffering through the same things I did growing up and that fact that the cycle is still going on with/through them makes me wanna buts that bytch’s knee caps but that would only make ME feel better and would not solve ANYTHING. When I talk to my hslf sisters they sound like I did as a young woman and the pain is so fresh and raw and it’s not fair. If he were dead sometimes I think it would’ve been easier to deal with but that’s neither here nor there. Some members of his fam and including my own mother says “never think he doesn’t miss his family b/c he does”…..and that maybe true but parts of me want the bastard to hurt the way all of his children has…but vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord. So we don’t bother him and he doesn’t have the courage to face us so we leave it. Since he’s showed us that he loves his mother more than us then that’s how we leave it….him and his mama.

On topic ~ I wasn’t raised with my father. I have never used the word “daddy” a day in my life. As I matured, I sought him out so he could see what I made of my life. My mother did a fabulous job raising me (probably cuz I was scared shytless of her). I got to have a somewhat decent relationship w/my father in my early 40’s (mostly via the telephone). I didn’t know the man very well, but went to his funeral simply because he was my father and I respect my place on this earth because of him. Fast forward, main reason why I’m making sure my daughter knows and interacts w/her father as much as possible (almost daily). Reading all your stories no doubt will make me sad, but looking forward to reading your experiences w/your dads.

Morning All!

I’m loving the daddy stories. I do thank my father for providing the sperm that created me. I also thank him that we can have a decent conversation now and he doesn’t act as if he’s entitled to all the parental benefits like my mother does. He’s had enough sense to make sure he can take care of himself so that he’s not a burden on the children that he did not help to raise (like my mother is).

Now my Uncle? That’s another story. I thank my Uncle for showing me what a real man looks like, for loving my aunt and taking care of her. I thank my Uncle for treating my sisters and me like we were his own daughters and helping to raise us into the responsible women that we are. I thank him for helping all of us get our first cars and helping me learn how to drive. I thank him for showing my nephew what a real man is. My Uncle is the one that convinced my grandmother to move from Cleveland to NC so he could take care of her. I didn’t like it at the time but my mother and my other uncle weren’t doing a good job. My life has changed drastically since I stopped bucking and joined the rest of the family in NC. Finally, I thank my Uncle for continuing to be there for me – even if it’s just to chit chat.

I think Dad’s instill confidence in their daughters. Dating women you can see the inner REAL strength of those who were close to their Daddy. Not just a man in the house who was her father, being led around by the mother there is a difference. As a man you can figure out when dating who had a strong bond with a real father in their life. Those women tend to not be a rotating door for relationships and know how to respect a man. And that garners respect from a man who is seeking a relationship from them right off of the bat.Not respect a man as in bow down or just submit to whatever man..But just to have a genuine understanding and confidence in herself that does not need to be bragged about but something you can just feel in the way she handles and deals with life.

Fellas I am sure you will agree that when you meet a woman in which you can tell that her father was very instrumental in her life you tend to know right of the bat that she is serious business. I have even seen this in women who have lost their fathers at an early age in life, he still left an impression on them that it affects them to this day.

On my daughter I always teach her to be strong she comes from a very strong lineage and she is expected to keep it going. She is at the age where we don’t sugarcoat stuff for her. Her mother and I are on point and even though her mother is a handful by my standards, which is saying alot, she knows that at the end of the day I am Daddy and if I dont agree with it it ain’t happening. Her mother grew up very close to her own father and it shows in her life. It’s not about keeping them off the pole per say it’s about grooming them into a person who makes wise decisions and if and when she does fall to get up brush herself off and keep going…to adapt and overcome..to never give up..to know how to define yourself and still be able to love.. I tell my daughter about my player days the wild stuff I used to do , some of the wild stuff I still do know. I talk to her about what was good about my relationship with her mother and what was bad. She was telling me about a boy who she likes, but he is having sex or has had sex with other girls and he told her that he respected her even though she didnt want to have sex with him. I told her “yeah, daddy played that game also…your mom was a virgin when I met her and I told her the same thing..and look her you are” Point being you equip them the best you can for life, and always let them know you are there for whatever, whenever. My daughter is more comfortable talking to me than she is her mom about certain things. I ask her why does she feel more comfortable talking to me than mom and she says that I am easier to talk to, I let her know that I am going to tell her mom anyway…I think she prefers it that way.

While I’m sure you needed your father in your life, some fathers did the best thing for their family by staying away.

AmRed yes and no. Yes b/c he finally verbalized what we already knew but at least he said it. No b/c I have two half sisters(by different women of course) one is 34 and the other is 13 who are going through the same thing I went through as a young woman and the pain I hear when I talk to them is too raw and fresh. I hear myself when I talk to them and they tell me that all they want is to be accepted by him and his family. No AmRed b/c the cycle is still going on with my other half siblings and I think if you don’t want children then why are you still making them…..just to abandon them. No it’s not all the way closed b.c once in a while I still wanna bust the bytch in knee caps but that would only make ME feel better and that’s selfish. Members of his fam and even my mom tell me “he miss y’all…don’t ever think that he don’t” but I’m like well he made sure we know he loves his mama more than us so his azz will hav to ride just like that…with his mama. I think if he were dead it would be easier ’cause just the THOUGHT that I could run into him when I go home makes me a little edgy with violent undertones. So for the best for all involved we just stay away and hope to NEVER see him. See my sperm donor had 4 children with my mom, some more while they were married and more when they divorced but I digress ’cause that’s a whole “nother Oprah”. Moving on…….

Good Morning All:

My daddy was great he taught me a lot about life and he was the one that gave me the birds and the bees’ talk. When I look back on our relationship I know that I am blessed to have had him for 21 years, but I still hurt from him not being here now…I know always will. Now, Father’s Day is one of those days I try to avoid and stay busy on, because it is too painful to deal with the memories.

If you are dating a single dad, do you plan to celebrate Father’s day with him? Do you show him that you admire him for being a wonderful father?

I am going to a family dinner with my guy and I’ll be giving him a nice card and a gift for Fathers Day. I tell him all the time how I love the way he interacts with his children and especially when he spends time with his daughters. He took his youngest daughter out on a date earlier this week and I expressed to him how much I adored that.

Morning All & TGIF!

Page1908 – I am good chica! Had a blast with everyone, it was good to see ya’ll.

I must say I love my dad dearly and there is so much that dad taught me and is still teaching me. Dad taught me about the importance of family (my siblings and I were to ALWAYS look out for each other no matter what), NEVER quit (give it 100% everytime or not at all), dont be afraid to speak up for yourself, pride in being an African American, support (my dad was at EVERY ONE of my high school football games since I was in the band), enjoy life (have fun, you only get to do this once), etc the list goes on. One thing though that my dad always assured us of was that in life things happen, learn from them. Even when I divorced, my dad took me out to dinner and asked me ‘what did you take from this?’ He was never afraid to give it to us straight and always made sure that we could go to him about anything.

Oh and before I forget, my dad also made it a point to have time with each of his children individually, even now. He and I may catch a Falcons game, he & my brother go out for breakfast when we visit my brother and he and my sister may have porch time (chillin on the porch while Dad is cooking). When we were smaller he took a road trip with each of us individually. Gosh I love that……

Tazzee – I ran into a lady (team mom from my lil cee’s baseball team) at the store that said her and her in-laws (all the women) are taking the men bowling tonight, and then Sunday they are all meeting at one in-law’s home to prepare all the favorites for the hushands. And presenting gifts during dinner.

I thought is was a great idea. I think family dinners are so much fun.

I love my dad. I didn’t always like him because as with any growing child he did not let me do everything I thought I was big enough to do. And for that I love him. As kids we really don’t get it and we few authority figures, mainly parents, as the enemy when they are really doing what is in our best interest. My dad was disappointed that I turned down going to college to get married instead. He was angry with me for getting involved with my second son’s father. But he never turned his back on me. He has helped me out in many ways that even my family doesn’t even know. He has made me learn lessons the hard way but he also has come to my rescue.

Seeing my dad as I was growing up created a mental foundation in my mind as to what to look for in what I consider to be a good man. My dad was a good provider, even when he didn’t give us any and every thing we wanted. He treated my mom good and the way she treated him taught me a lot. He worked. He brought his money home. He paid the bills. He interacted with us. He took us on family vacations. He took my mom on vacations. When something went wrong in the house or with us he dealt with it. He lives believing that it all points back to the man of the house. I love my father.

The thing about growing up in whatever household environment you do not realize the impact of what you are witnessing will have on you as an adult. You don’t sit back and take notes saying “imma treat my spouse and kids this way” but what you see and hear molds your expectations and notions and tend to play out in your relationships as an adult. And my parents never just out and said “you are going to need to know XYZ when you get into relationships”, they just lived it. They taught about life in general but the first either of my parents singled out a particular male-to-female issue (other than sex) was when I was getting ready to marry my first husband.

AmRed No problem. When my parents were still married my mother told me “You see how your father is….never let a man treay you like that..you have to be self sufficient and independent”. And that was trye b/c he didn’t do for her so she did for herself instilled independence in my other 3 siblings as well. That’s part of where my strength and resolve comes from…my mom. Later she said she styed b/c she wanted us to have a father b/c hers was not in the picture….we shared with her that maybe we would’ve been better off had she left waay before she did but that’s okay ’cause now she is re-married and is very happy. We had to move on for our own happiness’ sake.

I was going to say that same thang **abc** I know plenty of women who grew up with great dads, both parents on point..who went high and too the left. Preggie, drugs, more preggie, more drugs. And the parents gave them all the vacations and love and support. I LOVE my daddy and am blessed to still have him around. He taught me alot about confidence, standing your ground, not being afraid to try new things and respect. I remember being a little girl and him taking me out to Nathan’s for hotdogs on Saturdays and we’d sit in the booth together and talk. He taught me how to ride a bike and drive. He taught me how to fight the guy that was bullying me in the 7th grade. LOL!! He taught me how to install lighting, paint, cut grass and take care of light work around the house. More importantly, he showed me how a man is supposed to act and what he is supposed to do.

He’s always there when I need a shoulder to cry on or some tough love. We still hang out regularly and I enjoy it. Whether we’re at the restaurant talking about world news or we’re at the firing range shooting at targets…that’s my DADDY.

Good morning good blog people!

Well I was missing in action on the blog yesterday due to attending lil cuz’s funeral. Never want to have to go to a child’s funeral again! But it was a beautiful service. Both the brother’s & a few small cousins even spoke. The oldest brother got up and was incredible-he had everyone in tears & a standing ovation. Everybody in the family had boys and one of the aunts got up and assured everyone that they were doing fine and they were raising some strong young men. It was evident too, how TOGETHER everyone was and FIRMLY rooted in the Lord. W8, the dad is a Kappa, so your brothers were in full effect yesterday. Very impressive! The music was great and uplifting. His middle name was the same as the first name of my brother that passed. Just a tough day.

Imma comment on the topic on my next post, cause if yall didn’t know it already from past posts, I adored my Daddy!

This is a sensitive subject for me. My father died when I was seven (he was twenty-nine). I was the oldest child and frankly my childhood ended that day. My mom remarried three years later and I was never close to my stepfather and all I ever knew from then on was chores, whippings, and an intense desire to get the hellz out.

When I became a father, I made the decision then and there to ALWAYS be involved in my children’s lives, and I did. All three of my children were heavily involved in sports and other extracurricular activities, and I went to almost every game, almost every practice, coached them in sports, etc. Part of it was regaining my own lost childhood and I am not proud of that…but I was ALWAYS involved.

I feel for so many of the ladies on this blog. Over the last three years or so, I have come to pick up bits and pieces of the backgrounds, and in addition to trying to raise a child without his/her birthfather, there is so much that the child loses if he/she does not have that father for support, guidance, and validation. That is often/usually/maybe always carried with that child.

No one has a perfect childhood, but I have nothing but contempt for men who are only “sperm donors” not fathers. They need to “man up” and do the right thing. If their pecker was present at the conception, then they are responsible.

Once we left lastnight i was in full work hunter killer mode..I noticed the girl in the suv sitting low and the two dudes in the monte carlo a space away from the girl in the suv pointing the other direction..and I saw them all crouch down when we started walking. Mo that way I asked you about4 times where your car was. I didnt want to make yall nervous..And Page thats why i asked why you were on the passenger side of your car and not going to the drivers side..once yall got in your cars. Staceye and I walked to our cars that were about 800ft from yall. I noticed the guys in the car creeping up behind us..I told Staceye to get in front of me and keep walking(which she did thanks) she asked why I said those two guys in the car are coming up on us..she kept walking I turned around to face them they hit the brakes and reversed..I thought that was it..later on on the hwy what do I notice beside me..that same monte carlo..I fall back I start checking with everyone who walked out with me they made it home safely..I run their tags..they have some serious warrants tied to that car..I trail give locations and tail them..Ga State Patrol comes flying up in about 5 minutes..guys got arrested and are being questioned on some more things now..lesson learned always be aware of your surroundings. The odd part is that I made about an hour pit stop when I left Barley’s but yet they were still following after that.

W8 – Thank dawg, hugs back! I need them, it was really something else yesterday!

On yesterday’s topic – I love my SO’s kids to death, as if they were my own. We are bonding nicely and I would be honored to be their stepmom.

Today’s topic – My daddy was an important influence in my life. I was a mama’s girl, but daddy had a quiet, powerful presence. He was a man’s man, very professional and respected in his career and old school. He liked dirty jokes, jazz and was very humble. He cared about his community. In his younger days, my dad actually could have “passed”, but he was a true brother. His dad died when he was 3, so he never knew him, but he followed in his footsteps professionally and he had 3 strong older brothers that were impressive in their own right.

He took care of us and was always there for us and the whole family. He used to buy all the ladies in the house a red foil heart box of candy for Valentines and put it on our bed the night before! He’d give my mom some flowers too the next day. He loved good food and after mom died, I loved cooking for him. He loved sports, especially football, in fact that was the reason why he agreed to let me go to UGA and not Spelman like my mom wanted!

I miss him dearly.

Yeah, W8, I noticed the dudes and the girl in the SUV, too. Man, you are on it. Thanks for making sure we all got home safely. That was nice of you. I was behind Mo and I saw Staceye on the side of me once we all got on the freeway. You know, my dad is a San Diego County Sherrif Deputy, so for years when I still lived in Cali, my tags were blocked so no one could run them. Whenever I would get pulled over, the cop would always try to run my tag but it would never come up. They would be like “ok either you work in law enforcement or your parents work in law enforcement”. At the time I was working at the Correctional Facility too, so that is another reason why my tags were blocked.

i called my dad wednesday to see what he was doing this w/e. he was on his way to monterey with his wife. good for him! i hope he has a wonderful time. monterey is gorgeous and a great romantic spot.

i send a happy father’s day text to my baby’s dad every year despite our relationship. he is the best dad i know right now. he does what needs to be done for jr., he does what i say, and he pays his child support. a great father and a hard worker are his best qualities.

I can never understand why this is not the very first thing everyone does, but I guess it does not come naturally. It has been decades since Officer’s Basic at Ft. Bragg, (and growing up in some tough environments), but it is still instinct for me to always note everything/everyone around me, make a “threat” evaluation, and form action plans in my mind if the “threat” should materialize. When I have told ladies that if something happens andy see me make a move, they are to run like hell and don’t wait for me. They give me one of those WTF looks, but it is one of those times when I expect them to just do what I say and don’t give me any ish. It is the training and the training never really goes away. There was a method to the madness in the Army.

Kym although my sons are five years apart I am so glad they had each other for entertainment. LOL Bought me plenty of hours of kid free time while they played together.

Now my 14 yr old even when he is home he is preoccupied with his own little life. He is either reading a book, watching tv or outside kicking the soccer ball around. Oh or playing the video game. Outside of when he wants to tell me something “awesome” the most ruckus he makes around the house is when he has a friend over. And still then he is doing his own thing.

I think I’ll take him to lunch next week. I miss my little monster man. sob

Hello all…

What did I learn from my biological father? Hmmmm…

Well being that my father came in and out of my life as he pleased…it wasn’t until about at the age of 12/13 yrs old that I had realized that it wasn’t necessarily me that he took issue with, it was my mother and the secrets of their short lived marriage. However, I had to pay the piper. And it wasn’t until I reached 23 (y.o) that I had respectfully brought up how his running in and out of my life effected me, the need to fell loved, protected, etc…that is when he had finally given me the missing piece of the puzzle to what happened…and right or wrong, he did the best that he knew how. Which still surprised me, because his own father (my paw paw) was such a stand up man and my time spent around my paternal grandparents, were those sweet memories of my paw paw sitting me on his lap, crossing my legs and pulling my skirt over my knees….while telling me to sit up straight and look at him while he spoke to me. “to be open”. And that I truly am. My step father is truly a beautiful man and upstanding gentleman…heyal my mother’s always been fawned over most of her life, when it comes to her attractiveness, but I’ve gotta give it to her husband…he makes HER look good…or rather even better as a respectable married woman.

…and I will add, that my biological father and I have buried the past and have a much better relationship, since we visit him and his new wife (to include my paternal grandmother) quite often these days. And my mother and I are closer now than we’ve ever been. It’s a lot easier now that I’ve learned to simply let certain things go.

@ARed thanks but I’ve made plenty of mistakes…I don’t think anyone totally “gets it right”, but I was and am involved, even though they are all grown now. I had a pretty toxic marriage, but every time my hand would reach for the door, I would remember my kids. Divorce eventually happened anyway, and I have my share of regrets, but my children still call me and want me in their lives…and that is what I hoped, prayed, worked for.

RandyT – Exactly. As much as I brag about my Dad, ask my middle sister and you might get a lukewarm answer. My dad put in long hours so that my mom could stay at home and we could have “things” but she is resentful that he wasn’t at everything because he was working. I guess it wasn’t enough to have mom there at everything. He suffered through many a dance recital after a 12 hour work day.

But historically, middle children always feel they come up short.

…this missing portion of my initial yet lengthy post…

I also came to grips at the age (previously stated above) that I had been chasing my father for quite sometime, through previous relationships thinking if I had just tried a little harder at the relationship, things would “pan out”. Hardly the case.

So all of that to say, he taught me (vicariously) through my own life’s lessons, that poor decision making was still no excuse due to life’s circumstances. And that I am still accountable for dealing with my own issues, instead of allowing “my issues” to deal with me. Being an only child, I was not spoiled by neither parent and I was forced to be independent and grow up rather fast and was taught that crying, whinning and/or feeling sorry for myself was unacceptable. When it seemed as if my life was full of nothing but lemons, I actually HAD a choice. I can either make some lemonade or just go thirsty. And I’ll be damned if it was going to be the latter.

Now my step father? He gives me hope and reconfirms what I already knew and that is: Anything’s possible as long as I continue to live up to the meaning of my gubment name —–> “to be open”. And that I truly am.

Father’s Day isn’t a very big deal; it’s about 10 times (or 100 times) less important than Mother’s Day, for instance. W8 what I have seen and observed about men I could write a freaking book. This behavior has been performed by one as recent as a few days ago..and two others a few months ago. I grow weary. All three are what I like to call users…and since I have a tendancy to be a information source and co-dependant(wanting to help those who need help) I get called upon alot to provide information. Ok YOu get 24 days for killing a person and two years for killing some dogs.

Mike got 2 years for mainly lying to the feds. They don’t take to kindly to folks lying to them. Look at how they are going after Barry Bonds, and still looking for ways to get Roger Clemens. Sammy Sosa better watchout, too, since he went to capital hill in 2005 and may have lied to Congress (well, Sammy did lie when he said the he needed an interpreter. Dude has been speaking english for years)

Donte did not lie. He assisted in this thing. He was wrong for driving while intoxicated but he tried to help. He actually called 911, and stayed. He didn’t try to deceive. After all, it takes tax payer money to do these investigation. Lying to the feds means that our tax money goes to that.

Also, Don’t forget that Donte has 2 years of house arrest as part of his deal too. His attorney did a heck of job. I’m sure that his auto insurance will pay some if not most of his settlement with the family. I know that my car insurance covers bodily harm to those in accidents.

Girl my hair is nappy today

Cemeeli we were at Scottish Rite Tuesday night and this lady was there with her daughter and granddaughter. Little girl just a few days older than Elizabeth. We were sitting there waiting to be called and I was to the lady and she said her granddaughter had a “nappy rash”. Okay I have heard of nappy. I grew with girls that told about nappy hair. So I looked at the little baby and was thinking her head looks perfectly fine. Very nice clean thick hair. No sign of a rash. I didn’t get it. So she kept talking and I soon figured out she was talking about a diaper rash. In all my 41 years I have never heard of it called nappy rash.

@abc, you say there’s no one to remind your kids to get their father a card on Father’s Day. That’s BS, their mother should be doing it. Already took lil leggs to the store to pick out a card for her father on Father’s Day. That’s what you do. She asked if I was going to buy one for him, and I politely said “remember, my father died a quite a months back. No, I won’t be buying a card. Their mother should be taking them to buy you a card, as well as having them call you.

Lioness being the who that I am I looked it up on the net the next day. It’s just another name for diaper rash. I wonder who came up with the nappy.

Speaking of which, my husband cousin sent him an email yesterday of his dog. The dog has something called viral papillomas (sp???). He has warts all over his mouth. The entire lower half of his month is unrecognizable because of the warts. They are having him put to sleep today. That picture was awful. Whatever treatment he was receiving did not help. It made me itch for I know 30 minutes. I punched Mase in the arm for even showing it to me.

As for father’s day, my pop’s knows how much I care and appreciate the role model position that he embraced.

Unfortunately, last weekend someone broke into his Mercedes and stole something out of it and his music was one of those things.

I’ve spent most of the day going through my crates of CDs and burning things that I know that he would like. Currently, I am burning the Marvin Gaye Classic “What’s Going On?”. Stevie Wonders Fulfillingness’ First Finale is on deck.

I have two 6-foot shelves filled with CDs and 8 bankers boxes with CDs. And Itunes.

Also, I am making one CD of choice songs that I remember him playing while I was a child. Mostly stuff that he played on the hideous huge stereo furniture thing that took up way too much space. I remember lifting the top and putting 33s and 45s (go ahead Cee and call me old) on the turntable and cleaning on Saturday mornings. Most of the songs on this CD will be songs from that time of the late 70s. My pops played everything from Charlie Prid, to Liberace, to O’Jays. I making my own compilation of music and dubbing calling it “The Soundtrack of a Happy Childhood”.

I held a 4month old, when i drop my son off at Camp this morning. GIRL! …That baby smell was so strong on my and my heart this morning. I told that baby’s mom PLEASE TAKE YOUR BABY FROM ME!!! She was like he does not let anyone hold him as long as you do. I told her i hold babies with 100% of my attention. I could be preoccupied with deep thoughts, but as soon as a baby is in my presence they get all of my attention.

They are some wonderful beings.

I have a chair w/a foot rest and canopy. In this type of heat, it can only help but so much. I’m the track mom and come with everything but the kitchen sink so I’ve been told. Was laughed at last week cuz someone asked for crackers and I just happenend to have a roll. The other parents are saying I should have been on Let’s Make a Deal because whatever they ask for I seem to have it.l I don’t believe in going to the concession stand when I can bring my own food and snacks I like. They ran out of pickles when I really wanted one so now I bring my own jar of pickles…that had everyone laughing. And I had the last laugh when they asked me for some. Like Nelly said “you for real, now that I’m a fly guy….

Angie – Since you are admittedly a reality TV junkie, I will let you know that I did watch that Real Housewives of NJ show the other night with the wife. y’all know how I feel about reality TV).

After watching it, I must say that even though I didn’t watch Real Housewives of Atlanta, I would find it hard to say that the Real Housewives of Atlanta portrayed more stereotypes than the NJ show. Italians and that one chick paying everything in cash. Even a 100,000 dollar set of furniture was paid in cash. Construction jobs. The only thing that they didn’t do was call each other Tony & Carmelo.

While I am not the biggest fan of TV shows, I Love movies (except stupid ones like the Notebook)

It was actually better than I expected. The wife and I saw it as part of a double feature at the Starlight drive in. So, we didn’t go to see it, but it wasn’t bad. The funny thing is that I don’t remember other movie (which is the one that led us to the drive-in) Between that and 30 Rock, Tina Fey is pretty good at writing those kinds of things.

I remember the names because TBS just got rights to broadcast it and one night earlier this week it was on back to back to back. (Like they do on TNT.) Mean Girls is not a drama, and we should all know by now that TNT knows drama and TBS is “very funny”

WD,u want an afternoon joke? well, ima just tell the story:

i was seeing this chic back home 4 a cple of weeks(may be 6),a cpple of months be4 i came over here.I was already dating Queen,she had been here(usa) already and was waiting on me to come over.So i was cheating on her.
So, im messing with this girl but i havnt smashed yet coz i was having a hard time finding a convenient venue.She lived with her parents and i was lodging at some grown folk place,in their cottage.Thing is,they were friends with Queen’s aunt so i cldnt bring her home there.
So i kept promising to smash but neva completed the do.She was feeling me real bad, i cld sense that!!!
Then one friday, i pick her up,tell her,im gonna take her to a motel 6 like spot and we do the do.
I come around to pick her up,we head there, i park the car,go inside to inquire and leave her in the car,they tell me the fee but it was too much for me,my money was kinda short.So i head back in the car to break the news!

She just broke out,crying!
Cldnt take it no more!
