Because He Kept Me Off the Pole

Sunday is Father’s Day, a rare day when some men get as good as they give. If you are fortunate enough to have a father that is still here, I urge you to spend time with him. If that is not possible then I think a card or phone call can go a long way!

I am so thankful for my Father, for always being there for me. He has been such a great example of what a good man is. I remember listening to comic Chris Rock joke about being a father to his daughters and the importance of being a good dad: I realize my only job in life is to keep her off the pole. I mean they don’t grade fathers but if your daughter is a stripper you messed up.

I love my Dad because he’s kept me off the pole and kept me from doing outrageous things to a man on a dance floor (I’m still in disbelief, sorry). I love my dad because he is always supportive, loves me unconditionally, and has always been there for me. In a lot of ways, I think he has set the standard for my relationships with men.

Ladies, why do you love your father? What has he taught you about dating, relationships, and men?

If you are dating a single dad, do you plan to celebrate Father’s day with him? Do you show him that you admire him for being a wonderful father?

Guys, do you have daughters? What kind of lessons do you think they should learn about men? Have you ever dated a woman who had “Daddy Issues?” or was not raised with a father in the home? How did you handle it?

How do you think our relationships with our fathers impact our dating and relationship habits?

To all our readers who are fathers HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!

Tazzee is Jada the only know celeb on the show?

I wish I had set the DVR to record it but I didn’t even think about it earlier that day. Imma try to catch next week. If ER can last as long as it has Hawthorne will probably make it. I stopped watching ER a long time ago but every season I would ask “what more can they do on that darn show?” It made it many years.

@abc, you say there’s no one to remind your kids to get their father a card on Father’s Day. That’s BS, their mother should be doing it. Already took lil leggs to the store to pick out a card for her father on Father’s Day. That’s what you do. She asked if I was going to buy one for him, and I politely said “remember, my father died a quite a months back. No, I won’t be buying a card. Their mother should be taking them to buy you a card, as well as having them call you.

@Cee ~ the Dominicans I use are when in a $$ pinch are in Lithonia (770) 482-4292. Reasonable. Quick. No appointments. They keep it moving in there. Wash, deep conditioning and set for lil leggs and myself $60.00.

Lioness being the who that I am I looked it up on the net the next day. It’s just another name for diaper rash. I wonder who came up with the nappy.

Speaking of which, my husband cousin sent him an email yesterday of his dog. The dog has something called viral papillomas (sp???). He has warts all over his mouth. The entire lower half of his month is unrecognizable because of the warts. They are having him put to sleep today. That picture was awful. Whatever treatment he was receiving did not help. It made me itch for I know 30 minutes. I punched Mase in the arm for even showing it to me.

Now that’s just nasty…trying to picture it. Ugh! The heyal is a “nappy rash”? Hopefully she had a hard time pronouncing the word (…wondering if the woman refused to where her dentures may be)???

Thankfully my daughters never caught a diaper rash… some folks just refuse to change them on time, to decrease the chances of that being an issue, to include baby powder made with cornstarch.

As for father’s day, my pop’s knows how much I care and appreciate the role model position that he embraced.

Unfortunately, last weekend someone broke into his Mercedes and stole something out of it and his music was one of those things.

I’ve spent most of the day going through my crates of CDs and burning things that I know that he would like. Currently, I am burning the Marvin Gaye Classic “What’s Going On?”. Stevie Wonders Fulfillingness’ First Finale is on deck.

I have two 6-foot shelves filled with CDs and 8 bankers boxes with CDs. And Itunes.

Also, I am making one CD of choice songs that I remember him playing while I was a child. Mostly stuff that he played on the hideous huge stereo furniture thing that took up way too much space. I remember lifting the top and putting 33s and 45s (go ahead Cee and call me old) on the turntable and cleaning on Saturday mornings. Most of the songs on this CD will be songs from that time of the late 70s. My pops played everything from Charlie Prid, to Liberace, to O’Jays. I making my own compilation of music and dubbing calling it “The Soundtrack of a Happy Childhood”.

Raqi I have never heard of “nappy rash” either. I would have had the “Hunh?” look, right along with you on that one.

I held a 4month old, when i drop my son off at Camp this morning. GIRL! …That baby smell was so strong on my and my heart this morning. I told that baby’s mom PLEASE TAKE YOUR BABY FROM ME!!! She was like he does not let anyone hold him as long as you do. I told her i hold babies with 100% of my attention. I could be preoccupied with deep thoughts, but as soon as a baby is in my presence they get all of my attention.

They are some wonderful beings.

My dad taught me how a man is supposed to treat a woman, by the way he treated my mom. He also taught me how a man takes care of his family through financial and emotional ways, as well as taking care of their souls by being a man with a great relationship with God. He also showed me the type of man to be submissive to- a man in the Word and who follows the word, as well as takes care of his family. That’s who a woman submits to, not any old thing.

Beautiful skin (wonderful song)

Mmmm.. this particular song right here is..
dedicated to the black woman
And it doesn’t pertain to all black women
because some of y’all disrespect y’allself
because you don’t know who you are in the first place
This is out of common respect, for all women period
Word up, like this song, yo

Yo, I’m quite single, and occaisionally I mingle
But aside from all the rest, she sparks my interest
No, ma’am, I don’t know you
Just offering the common respect I feel I owe you
Also, some conversation, companionship, common-ground and common-sense
There’s no such thing as coincidence in, me finding you here
And I really hate screaming in your ear, so some other time, OK?
I waited a day *phone rings* Hello?
This is Carlito from a couple of days ago, you sound tired
Forgive me if I’ve called you too late
But what better time to relate mind-state? Where could I begin?
Hasn’t anyone ever told you you got beautiful skin?
You’re more than welcome, what do you desire within?
I just, wanna be, there’s no need to put titles on you and me
Those are limitations, living and learning are our only obligations
Equality, honesty, independence, intelligence, emotion and devotion
Humbly seeking to hear God when he’s speaking
At one time, my mind, just, couldn’t conceive
A woman had to dress a certain way to believe
But, in the same breath, a-llow me to say
That, if you believed young lady, you wouldn’t dress that way
And I, was attracted to your class, I couldn’t see all yo’ ass
And, I was very content, and you deserved every complement
Now, remember our indifferences make us the same
You gotta have some game, or, many of you
won’t even be able to take care of yourself, uh
And Love, when I look at you, I see my reflection
So I offer my love, affection and protection
Shawty, you dead fine, but the bottom-line is
You’re still my sister

Was laughed at last week cuz someone asked for crackers and I just happenend to have a roll. The other parents are saying I should have been on Let’s Make a Deal because whatever they ask for I seem to have it.l I don’t believe in going to the concession stand when I can bring my own food and snacks I like. They ran out of pickles when I really wanted one so now I bring my own jar of pickles…that had everyone laughing. And I had the last laugh when they asked me for some. Angie – Since you are admittedly a reality TV junkie, I will let you know that I did watch that Real Housewives of NJ show the other night with the wife. y’all know how I feel about reality TV).

After watching it, I must say that even though I didn’t watch Real Housewives of Atlanta, I would find it hard to say that the Real Housewives of Atlanta portrayed more stereotypes than the NJ show. Italians and that one chick paying everything in cash. Even a 100,000 dollar set of furniture was paid in cash. Construction jobs. The only thing that they didn’t do was call each other Tony & Carmelo.
