That’s not my name

Today’s post is courtesy of “Brian”, a 29 year old man from Smyrna. Brian wanted to offer his perspective  after a recent experience he had with a young lady he was seeing:

I have been going out with someone for a couple of months. A couple of weeks ago, when we were in the heat of the moment, she said someone else’s name. I think it was her ex-boyfriend or something. I didn’t say anything about it at the time but it is making me question if they are still seeing each other. Even if they are not in contact, he is obviously in her thoughts. It was probably an honest mistake but it has never happened to me before.

Wow, Brian, that’s quite the conundrum! I can’t say that has happened to me before. I don’t think it has, anyway. Ladies, have you ever made this mistake? Did you own up to it or ignore it? Do you think Brian should bring it up even though it didn’t just happen? What would you do if you were with a guy and he called you another name by mistake?

Guys, how would you handle it? Have you ever used the wrong name with someone you were seeing? What happened? Did the lady completely flip out about it?

Do you think it means anything when someone you are seeing brings up the name of their last significant other/partner? How many mentions are too many? Are you more understanding if the person was with their ex for a long time?

Happy Thursday

I will relent until you mention the 20th anni trip round the world or sumthin.

For #5 we went to Sydney, Australia. Well, actually, her firm has an office there and it was a business trip/vacation. Nothing like a trip on the company’s dime and my two favorite words…”Per Diem”

I can honestly say that I’ve never blurted out someone else’s name during sex, nor have I ever been called anybody else’s name. I tend not to call out first names anyway. Also, I’ve never used the “I love you” line just for the hell of it either.

Ya’ll need to keep me up to date on these concerts that will be coming up. I haven’t been to a live show in forever, and my wife has never been to a concert in her life, so I’m sure she would enjoy that.

Afternoon…

Yes, I can recall calling someone another man’s name…honest mistake on my part…and extremely frustrated since the argument was indeed about the “other guy” in the first place (which was not brought up by me…AT ALL). So it was more of an impulse and again, frustration that I blurted out “Lucas” instead of “Larry” being that my current was still bringing up “dude from the past” rather than getting over it, since neither of us could change it.

Now, I was informed by an ex, that one evening, while out on a date, he and the woman of interest came back to his place for a few drinks and whatnot…and while he excused himself for a few moments, leaving her in the living room for a few ticks, she called herself being nosey with his laptop.

Ol gurl must’ve ran her fingertips across the the little “mouse pad” just to find dun, dun, duuuunnnn = yours truly’s pic blown up as his screensaver (as well as the desktop). Needless to say, the night did not end as he had intended or heyal, may be it did. But let him tell it, she (naturally) took issue with that, especially since he refused to change it…which I found quite interesting as well. HA!

Hey, being meddlesome…what else does one expect to find BUT trubbuh’….trubbuh…trub-buh! Lol

Italy….I’ve been to Milan, Venice, and Rome, but she hasn’t.

Even if we go before then, there is so much to see over there.

I remember seeing the Brand New Heavies and Digable Planets in concert. As a matter of fact, I think that I saw it in Athens…this place called Georgia Theater (which looked like an old movie theater with some of this seats missing).

Neneh Cherry was there but did not perform.

I used to make other trip to UGA for y’alls “Day of Soul”, which was usually in the spring. That is where I first saw Erykah Badu…Baduism hadn’t come out, yet. I also saw the Roots for the first time there. Fugees (Pre-The Score) were there, too. Legion Field is where it took place…I remember the little green dorms around the field.

I had friends that attended UGA and were on something called CBCP.

Yes Mo, she has never been to a concert. Her upbringing was quite sheltered at times due to her mom being quite religious(she’s loosened up quite a bit though). She was not allowed to listen to certain music, especially hip hop, so she doesn’t know much about old school rap. I remember being at a house party a while back and a Run DMC video was on the TV. She turns to me and says, “baby, who is that?”

*facepalm*

I told her she is now forbidden from asking music questions like that in public. LOL!!! Funny thing is, she knows the words to a lot of old school R&B songs, but she usually has no clue who the artist is. She’s a oddball at times. lmao

Mo, I’d say if you go to italy try cities that are off the main map. San Vito/Brindisi was wonderful and the only tourist was me. Great food and great people and they loved sisters like nobodies business. I guess the major cities are cool but if you want to see how the locals really live get off the beaten path. Not that you asked me but anyway.

Ared, we’re gonna start with you over my knee but somehow I think you’ll enjoy that.

You should love London. I went when I was a bachelor. It is pretty cool. I have a cousin that is there right now. She claims that she will get to have Tea and Crumpets with the Queen.

I visited Parliament (Not George Clinton, Bootsy, and them). It was interesting. Thatcher was still PM back then.

I’m sure that they are all abuzz right now. I’d like to go back in 2012….they are hosting the Summer Olympics.

Mo – Love the Heavies too! Italy is someplace I have dreamed of going and I am currently looking into making that dream a reality. I was going to just do a Mediterranean cruise, and I still may do that, but I want to take a big tour of major spots in Italy first. I really would like to elope there even. I really could get with the whole Mediterranean lifestyle and the diet is the healthiest in the world. A lady I used to work with went to Tuscany with her sister. Her sisters husband is from Tuscany. They stayed with his family there and were able to experience it like natives. It sounded wonderful. His mom was the typical italian mom that cooked these huge meals in a kitchen with a woodburning stove and whenever she cooked it was a family event! Have you ever seen that movie Under the Tuscan Sun? It sort of inspires me too!

My2Cents, our schedules have been quite hectic over the last few months. I’ve been working a lot of weekends, and she goes to school full time and works part time. My weekends are gonna be freed up in June and July, so I’ll see if we can make up for lost time.

Melo, my wife isn’t a “church girl” per se. As I said, her mom isn’t nearly as strict as she used to be. I actually met her at House nightclub in the Underground. Honestly, church is a bigger part of her life than mine, and I’m sure she would prefer to go more often, but she’s damn sure not a holy roller.

DJ – Pick a nice concert at Chastain to take her to, pack a nice picnic basket with wine & goodies and bring some candles. The acoustics are great and most performers there are incredible and have to “bring it”, because that is no place to perform if you don’t sound good live! Individual tickets to Chastain concerts recently went on sale, so you should be able to find a good one. She’ll love it!

Poppa, I met some air force chicks on a bus and they put me up for a week. Talk about connections, these chicks had it all set out. The one thing I’ll never forget is a restaraunt on the dock and the 5 course meal they served. It was delicious seafood straight from the ocean. If you can find it its down near the heel opposite Greece. I’d love to go there again too but London wouldnt be bad either. Alot of history in london. Didnt get to catch it when I was over there.

You know speaking of venice smelling like swewer, alot of the tourists spots are anti climactic. Mona Lisa was small as hell, i saw the largest rat ever recorded near the Eiffel Tower and alot of the old castles and whatnot needed major repairs. Still it was good to see how others live. The world is a beautiful place and you meet some great people.
