Variety is the Spice
I bet we all find ourselves in ruts: career, dating, relationship, even sexual ruts. You get used to doing the same old thing and you suddenly realize how dull and uninspiring it becomes. You know what the say, though. Variety is the spice of life!
So what do you do to get out of your ruts? How do you shake things up?
I like to get a change in scenery. A quick trip somewhere out of town. Or perhaps book a room in a fabulous hotel in the city, preferably a sexy one.
Relationships can become mundane if you don’t work at keeping it interesting. I think that both partners should be able to come up with ways to keep things popping. What is the best way to spice up your relationship? What if you just started dating? Do you keep things interesting and spicy to prevent the transition to “comfortable” stage of exclusive dating?
What have you done in the past that really made things spicy?

IMHO…there are a lot of ppl who use their religiousity as a shield and justification for their behaviors…especially the negative ones…and it is sad that anyone should have to live such a lie and in such hypocrisy for the sake a religious front…just ain’t right…there is no God in that at all.

Hedo is SCANDALOUS and I’m NOT speaking from experience. Just the stories lil sis has told me!
fee, don’t know. Haven’t been to this spot in a long while, but Dugan’s on Flat Shoals is close to me. There’s O’Charley’s off Northlake that serves decent drinks, there’s the Jazz Bar at South DeKalb Mall (nice drinks). I don’t know of many after work spots. Any suggestions?

Well, you are down there with the little feet ppl. I don’t even remember wearing a 7-8 at all. I bought cute lil ballerina flats last weekend but i “need” some “new” sandals before i got to the part 2 Alvin Ailey performance at UNC in a couple weeks. It’ll be her before i know it. I told my cousin I could wear my Maya Angelo outfit instead…Lol.
Note: Please read “need” as; gotta have some brand spankin’ new shoes for the new dress, of course.

There is so much about how we identify ourselves that it culturally relative…maybe that is one of the big dilemmas for TMac…the ones based on cultural identity POV.
I remember reading Marita Golden’s Migrations of the Heart…she grew up in the 60’s when a very strong Afrocentric identity movement was taking place within the AA communities…and like many young ppl her age, she became infatuated with the afrocentrism vibe…well, she married an African brother, moved to Africa with all of this anticipation of how great it was going to be to finally be connected to her ancestral roots and all…but what she found out was that while she and her African kin by marriage shared a common ancestral history and phenotype…culturally she was truly American…and that is when any similarities between her and her ideal African kinship ended…she missed collard greens, the black social scene, she was expecte to be more submissive, etc…that was a book that helped me to start understanding just how much culture plays into who we are…not just…and it is not color, but content that makes culture…so I will give Tmac some slack because I do believe that may be more at play than not.

Hey Everyone,
Well….I let my 2 go this morning. They TOTALLY understood and were very gracious. I hooked them up with some job leads and with some of my contacts. I was able to persuade the company to give them 3 months pay and benefits plus their yearly bonus (we normally get in April). Orginally, they were only going to pay them through the end of the month and cancel their insurance then too.
I wrote letters of recommendation for them so they were quite pleased with the outcome.
It is still sad to see them go!

I forgot all about CP Shoes on Main Street. Girl when i was “hangin” i would fly over there for some fly shoes.
Thanks Kimmie. I’m not as “good” as you with DSW. The rarely have my size left when i go there. The one on CampCreek makes me sick. And i’ havent’ traveled to my other one in a long time.
Note: Read, my “shoe stock” is probably in the 100s or 150+ of a “collection”. I was a manager of 2 major shoe stores in my 20s, and i still have worn, and unworned (never tried on in the box) shoes to show for it. My guy says my closet makes him dissy.

Take that as a future training opportunity for yourself. You are not always going to be able to have Job leads or a big severance for folks you let go. More often than not they are also not going to take it well. At the end of the day being in Mgmt means you will have to make those tough decisions. You don’t have to like it but its part of the deal.

Cee- I hate the one on Camp Creek!! My favorite actually is the one at Atlantic Station. I go alot to the one by North Pointe in Alpharetta because it’s near my job. Went to the one at Cumberland but its about like Camp Creek. When you have the time to wait for mail, try ordering online too – especially if they have your size but not the color in the store.

M’Karyl, that book is very familiar. I certainly understand cultural diffefences and what some deem to be their destiny. I am American and more than likely could not easily adapt to my ancestral roots. Not that I wouldn’t want to, I’m just a whiner if concrete isn’t underfoot. I read his sentence in that he hasn’t asked one out and that spoke volumes!

I read the book in 1988 or 89 and then again for a class at ASC in the 90’s…so it has been out for a while.
Yeah, I read him too…but that was one reason that I went with the cultural thing…maybe just a different vibe…I met a brother from Ethiopia…and at this point, I had many Ethiopian friends…and he just did not care for the AA’s he met living in GA…he was educated in France, etc…and he had lived for some time in NY and DC…but for him the cultural differences were insurmountable…he could not understand the values, etc…so he did not date black women as a rule when he lived in GA…we talked for about an hour and some change one day in Lt 5…again, another experience that helped me to see that color is not culture.

I was so hard to decide. I asked God to guide me….and he did…. the one I selected….whom in hindsight will have the easiest time finding a job because of his various skills.
The other one told me afterwards, that he had been saving aggressively over the last two years and with the severance package…he and his family would be OK for awhile.
