Live from the BCS title game, where the Irish have landed

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Maybe it was because this correspondent spent more time counting ocean waves than hanging out on South Beach, but it was hard to get a read on the fans. I saw far more Alabama folks walking around, and it wasn’t until Sunday that I saw more than a few Notre Dame shirts. (And I’d even gone to Mass, where there were actually more folks wearing crimson. Go figure.)

That changed today. When the first media bus rolled into the parking lot at Sun Life Stadium — that’s what this place, which has known many names, is now called — at 3:40 p.m., we saw Irish fans by the boatload. If I had to guess, I’d say the crowd will be 55-45 Bama, but I’m bad at estimating crowds.

I’m sometimes bad at predicting games, too, but the responsibility to offer a pick comes with the job. I’m on video record with Noah Coslov of CineSport as taking the Tide to win 17-10, but I’ve covered a few of these BCS title games and I know the favorite doesn’t always win. (Exhibit A: USC in January 2006; Exhibit B, Ohio State in the desert the next year.)

This is the most credentialed BCS game ever. Including photographers, almost 900 media passes were issued. (And this doesn’t count the 450 commanded by ESPN, that entity unto itself.)

Weather: It rained much of the day, but it has cleared. (This happens often in Florida.) It’s not supposed rain during the game, which might mean something, though I know not what.

OK, enough of me. I’ll be here until a national champ has been identified, and I’d appreciate the company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

I hope Coach Saban and The Crimson TIde due to the self-righteous Notre Dame jokers what “The Great JiveTalker” has done to U.S Constitution, our economy and civil liberties in this country.

It wasn’t just a priest — it was an Archbishop. And he didn’t. But he did ask Brian Binnette, with whom I was riding, about his BCS championship staff shirt.

All shined up and pretty on the outside, full of [cow manure] on the inside.

I’m sure that Dawg Nation will be unanimous in cheering the Crimson Tide on to victory against Notre Dame. Even dawgs admire the strength and skills of a well-coached team of scholar-athletes, especially since they see so little of that in Athens, bless their hearts. :-)

Save that leftover New Year’s champagne to celebrate the Tide’s second straight BCS championship!

Thinking of the present silly hoopla over the Screaming Brave emblem on batting practice caps I’ve never seen any complaints from Irish about Notre Dame’s mascot. I always thought the late Foster Brooks would have been a great ambassador for the Fighting Irish.

There’s just no way that Notre Dame can stay with Alabama for 4 quarters. 2 and a half quarters at the most. Tide wins 34-20.

Did anyone else see the stat about Alabama’s kicker Jeremy Shelley? It said he is the only FBS kicker to not miss a field goal or PAT the season. I vividly remember him missing a FG at the SECCG ( I was there) when UGA blocked an Alabama FG attempt and Alec Ogeltree took it back for a TD. At that point , UGA was up by 11.

Respect to Coach Kelly & Notre Dame.
Monte Te’o is a great representative for College Football.
That said, so is Barrett Jones, Jesse Williams & CJ Moseley.
If McCarron duplicates last years BCS Title Game, we win by 2 TDs.
If McCarron struggles, it’ll be a dog-fight.
