Live from the BCS title game, where the Irish have landed

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Maybe it was because this correspondent spent more time counting ocean waves than hanging out on South Beach, but it was hard to get a read on the fans. I saw far more Alabama folks walking around, and it wasn’t until Sunday that I saw more than a few Notre Dame shirts. (And I’d even gone to Mass, where there were actually more folks wearing crimson. Go figure.)

That changed today. When the first media bus rolled into the parking lot at Sun Life Stadium — that’s what this place, which has known many names, is now called — at 3:40 p.m., we saw Irish fans by the boatload. If I had to guess, I’d say the crowd will be 55-45 Bama, but I’m bad at estimating crowds.

I’m sometimes bad at predicting games, too, but the responsibility to offer a pick comes with the job. I’m on video record with Noah Coslov of CineSport as taking the Tide to win 17-10, but I’ve covered a few of these BCS title games and I know the favorite doesn’t always win. (Exhibit A: USC in January 2006; Exhibit B, Ohio State in the desert the next year.)

This is the most credentialed BCS game ever. Including photographers, almost 900 media passes were issued. (And this doesn’t count the 450 commanded by ESPN, that entity unto itself.)

Weather: It rained much of the day, but it has cleared. (This happens often in Florida.) It’s not supposed rain during the game, which might mean something, though I know not what.

OK, enough of me. I’ll be here until a national champ has been identified, and I’d appreciate the company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

Urban Crier picked ND by a FG in pregame. Now he’s backsliding at half time. You can tell who musberger was pulling for. After the refs called ND for interference on fair catch he harped on the refs for calling it. What a wuss. I hope AL scores another 28 and shuts the Dames out. Dawgs gave AL much better game. lets not forget T A&M who beat AL. ND doesn’t belong in the NC.

Been waiting for this game for weeks and this is what we get?! Notre Dame has been exposed as the beneficiary of a mediocre schedule and the product of lots of media hype! What a farce!! Unless Saban puts in the bench warmers (and I mean third team), the final score could be 55 to zip or worse.

Bama wud steamroll UGa if they played again, as wud SCar, Oregon, and TAMU. Klempsun , FSU and Stanford wud be a tossup against UGa.

Saban wins because he has the best players. Not because he is the best coach. When he was in the NFL, where the teams are fairly even in talent, he couldn’t do crap. FACT.

You saw how great that D was against UGA in the last minute of the SEC game.

As an independent Notre Dame can get to make up its entire schedule right? This is why theyy have a great chance to return to the NCG next year. ( No SEC teams on schedule )

Agreed, BobDawg….

Better to be there. I still want to lose because we just couldn’t pull it off playwise, not because we were stupid and ran the clock out on ourselves.

It really isn’t right to have a current coach as a talking head. I know tv sports “reporting” gave up on actual journalism back in the black & white days but this is unfair to the schools that have to recruit against Un-urbane Urban.

The Dawgs came within 5 yards of this game. As I’ve said before here, we could have easily beaten ND, too. They are being exposed tonight as a lesser team than they appeared to be. While everyone was saying Georgia had a soft schedule, even in losing, we proved our worth in the SEC CG. It appears that it was ND who’s had it easy this year… until tonight.

The only competitive BCS game we’ve had since Texas-USC was two years ago, Auburn-Oregon.

It has been proven that the B1G (which ND fits into) can’t compete with the SEC, but the Pac-12 can. This should have been Alabama-Oregon playing.
