Live from the BCS title game, where the Irish have landed

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Maybe it was because this correspondent spent more time counting ocean waves than hanging out on South Beach, but it was hard to get a read on the fans. I saw far more Alabama folks walking around, and it wasn’t until Sunday that I saw more than a few Notre Dame shirts. (And I’d even gone to Mass, where there were actually more folks wearing crimson. Go figure.)
That changed today. When the first media bus rolled into the parking lot at Sun Life Stadium — that’s what this place, which has known many names, is now called — at 3:40 p.m., we saw Irish fans by the boatload. If I had to guess, I’d say the crowd will be 55-45 Bama, but I’m bad at estimating crowds.
I’m sometimes bad at predicting games, too, but the responsibility to offer a pick comes with the job. I’m on video record with Noah Coslov of CineSport as taking the Tide to win 17-10, but I’ve covered a few of these BCS title games and I know the favorite doesn’t always win. (Exhibit A: USC in January 2006; Exhibit B, Ohio State in the desert the next year.)
OK, enough of me. I’ll be here until a national champ has been identified, and I’d appreciate the company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

Golden Domers vs. Mobile Homers. It looks like the kissing cousins will come out on top. What a shame for civilized society. When electricity finally comes to Alabama they will win every year.

Has anybody ever seen such a lopsided BCSCG like this? I can’t remember ever seeing one. This game is making UGA look pretty good thus far.

Fair enough Fartrain, BCS total bust. FLA in the Sugar while A&M goes to the Cotton?. I would hate to have to play them right now, although Oklahoma is terrible. I understand why UGA went to the Capital One, they lost the SEC Champ. But the rest of the matchups were not very good. I mean Northern Ill. in the Orange?! Pathetic!

Hey Roger, FYI The Great Irish Potato Famine happened about 100 years after your post. There was a minor scarcity in the 1740’s but it really didn’t manifest itself until the 1840’s. Obviously, an Alabama fan. Please go away as you bring the IQ of this challenged blog down even further.

When ND is halfway decent, they automatically become “media darlings” like earlier when Brent Hamburger was obviously pulling for them.

My point was that under the BCS system, the National Championship game would have been undefeated Notre Dame Vs. Undefeated Ohio State. Alabama ends up in the Sugar. This is another reason why BCS is terrible. Be thankful Ohio State is on probation.
