Live from the BCS title game, where the Irish have landed

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Maybe it was because this correspondent spent more time counting ocean waves than hanging out on South Beach, but it was hard to get a read on the fans. I saw far more Alabama folks walking around, and it wasn’t until Sunday that I saw more than a few Notre Dame shirts. (And I’d even gone to Mass, where there were actually more folks wearing crimson. Go figure.)

That changed today. When the first media bus rolled into the parking lot at Sun Life Stadium — that’s what this place, which has known many names, is now called — at 3:40 p.m., we saw Irish fans by the boatload. If I had to guess, I’d say the crowd will be 55-45 Bama, but I’m bad at estimating crowds.

I’m sometimes bad at predicting games, too, but the responsibility to offer a pick comes with the job. I’m on video record with Noah Coslov of CineSport as taking the Tide to win 17-10, but I’ve covered a few of these BCS title games and I know the favorite doesn’t always win. (Exhibit A: USC in January 2006; Exhibit B, Ohio State in the desert the next year.)

This is the most credentialed BCS game ever. Including photographers, almost 900 media passes were issued. (And this doesn’t count the 450 commanded by ESPN, that entity unto itself.)

Weather: It rained much of the day, but it has cleared. (This happens often in Florida.) It’s not supposed rain during the game, which might mean something, though I know not what.

OK, enough of me. I’ll be here until a national champ has been identified, and I’d appreciate the company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

I am not going to bed until I see Lou Holtz explain his way out of this one and all that ND hooting he has done all year.

Kudos to the Tide. You represented your school, state, the SEC and the South extremely well tonight. My only unfulfilled wish was that you had hung 50 plus on those posers.

Do the Falcons have enough cap space to sign the Bama O-line for Sunday’s game?

The high point is Jones pusing McCarron in the 4th quarter. Rather than that, I am not sure what to think of the game.

Boo hoo hoo. Those Bama players didn’t play fair. They didn’t let us tackle them and they wouldn’t let us score enough. They wouldn’t share the ball.
They were bad boys.

I think the SEC should invite Notre Dame to join the SEC West in order to balance out the league. That way we could have a Vanderbilt in both Divisions!

ND can’t join SEC. They were not even allowed to join the ACC in football. My wife, a Deacon, really loved the game. cullowheedawg

Final polls are a joke. Notre Dame is 4TH in Ap and Georgia and Texas A&M are tied for 5TH. They would have finish one higher but AP includes Ohio State.
Coaches poll has Georgia 4TH but Notre Dame 3RD. Can’t believe Notre Dame didn’t drop to about 10TH in both polls.

A walk in the park for the best O line I’ve seen in decades.

Congrats Alabama! See ya next December with your “reloaded” team!

Doesn’t hurt a bit. How’s it feel to lose to Middle Tennessee State University, LOL? How’s it feel to lose to the Dawgs yearly??? Maybe you should worry about your bunghole school …
