Live from the BCS title game, where the Irish have landed

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Maybe it was because this correspondent spent more time counting ocean waves than hanging out on South Beach, but it was hard to get a read on the fans. I saw far more Alabama folks walking around, and it wasn’t until Sunday that I saw more than a few Notre Dame shirts. (And I’d even gone to Mass, where there were actually more folks wearing crimson. Go figure.)

That changed today. When the first media bus rolled into the parking lot at Sun Life Stadium — that’s what this place, which has known many names, is now called — at 3:40 p.m., we saw Irish fans by the boatload. If I had to guess, I’d say the crowd will be 55-45 Bama, but I’m bad at estimating crowds.

I’m sometimes bad at predicting games, too, but the responsibility to offer a pick comes with the job. I’m on video record with Noah Coslov of CineSport as taking the Tide to win 17-10, but I’ve covered a few of these BCS title games and I know the favorite doesn’t always win. (Exhibit A: USC in January 2006; Exhibit B, Ohio State in the desert the next year.)

This is the most credentialed BCS game ever. Including photographers, almost 900 media passes were issued. (And this doesn’t count the 450 commanded by ESPN, that entity unto itself.)

Weather: It rained much of the day, but it has cleared. (This happens often in Florida.) It’s not supposed rain during the game, which might mean something, though I know not what.

OK, enough of me. I’ll be here until a national champ has been identified, and I’d appreciate the company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

” A ND Touchdown” – rings about as hollow as an “American Dollar” right now in the true spectrum of things.

I take much heat on these blogs for my support of McCarron.
I know he isn’t the best QB, butt this is the 2nd Title he’s led Bama too & the 2nd BCS Title Game he’s played very, very well.

MVP tonight — Lacy.

Six teams in SEC>ND. Five in SEC>Bama (in their heads).

“Not that I’m ever one to cut ESPN/ABC much slack, but this is nightmare for the guys in the booth. They know nobody’s watching, but they still have to say something.”

The system is a product of the ESPN influence and politicing. You can’t honestly believe a whole season of ND hype by the network and media didn’t influence the voting.

@Timmy – like Big Crimson said….Ohio St is irrelevant and not even worth mentioning because they don’t factor into the BCS polls this season.

1. Alabama – won it on the field when it mattered
2. Oregon – offense is unbelievable, too bad they lost one
3. Georgia – finished strong even in defeat at “true” national championship game (SECCG)
4. Stanford – finished strong, also
5. Texas A&M – got better and better all year during first SEC season

Too bad Georgia and South Carolina didn’t get to beat up on those Pac-12 teams (Oregon, Stanford).

Wow, what a butt whoopin… Top three should be Alabama, UGA and TXAM.

Folks UGA gave Bama all they wanted and I am even more proud tonight for our DAWGS. Way to represent the SEC Bama.

Can’t wait for next season.

ESPN should be ashamed of Musberger pulling so hard for the Irish.

Don’t agree with the Oregon offense is incredible. The one team with even somewhat close to SEC defense shut them down.

Golston is rolling to the Left and feels the Tide, now to the right, and they on his hide, Seeing Crimson, seeing White, seeing Lacy run all night. Oh here comes Yeldon, is that the back up you say, man couldn’t ya’ll save him for another day? This is the SEC, where we win titles, the rest audition for “American Idol”. Left coast — is Ohio St off probation next year?
Not that it’s relevant, their un-defeated stretch this year was basically the same as ND’s — play no one & win em all.
The Buckeyes will have a high rank in the pre-season, butt if their bowl eligible next year, they aren’t going in-defeated. Example….USC!

I say give the MVP to McCarron’s girlfriend. She’s hot, and she deserves it for the 73 yr. old Brent Hamburger hitting on her on live TV. It’s even one of the Yahoo Sports headlines now. LOL, they must be bored.
