Live from the BCS title game, where the Irish have landed

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Maybe it was because this correspondent spent more time counting ocean waves than hanging out on South Beach, but it was hard to get a read on the fans. I saw far more Alabama folks walking around, and it wasn’t until Sunday that I saw more than a few Notre Dame shirts. (And I’d even gone to Mass, where there were actually more folks wearing crimson. Go figure.)

That changed today. When the first media bus rolled into the parking lot at Sun Life Stadium — that’s what this place, which has known many names, is now called — at 3:40 p.m., we saw Irish fans by the boatload. If I had to guess, I’d say the crowd will be 55-45 Bama, but I’m bad at estimating crowds.

I’m sometimes bad at predicting games, too, but the responsibility to offer a pick comes with the job. I’m on video record with Noah Coslov of CineSport as taking the Tide to win 17-10, but I’ve covered a few of these BCS title games and I know the favorite doesn’t always win. (Exhibit A: USC in January 2006; Exhibit B, Ohio State in the desert the next year.)

This is the most credentialed BCS game ever. Including photographers, almost 900 media passes were issued. (And this doesn’t count the 450 commanded by ESPN, that entity unto itself.)

Weather: It rained much of the day, but it has cleared. (This happens often in Florida.) It’s not supposed rain during the game, which might mean something, though I know not what.

OK, enough of me. I’ll be here until a national champ has been identified, and I’d appreciate the company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

The line at the Refund Window in Miami is getting rather long now. In fact, it looks like WalMart’s Return line right after Xmas.

Dang! Bama is kicking the s____ out of Notre Dame. They are literally beating them up. Smack down!
How many Irish have already limped or been carted off the field? The remaining Irish defenders look like they want to just get off the field and run home to their girlfriends and mommies.

Notre Dame is one of the worst teams I have seen all year. This is unbelievable. They are completely unprepared for this game. Kelly a great coach? Absolutely laughable.

What a fraud.

this is a preview of disaster in the dome on sunday. Seahawks have the speed and size while the falcons are a trumped up #1 seed.

A friend of mine said, in the first half….. “the ND fans don’t look happy”….. I said because they are thinking how much money they wasted just to sit in a seat to watch a butt whoopin’

It will be interesting to see how the talking heads for ESPN will spin this in the morning. I wonder if any of them would even entertain the thought that the SEC Title game was for all the National marbles?

Obviously I am a Dog fan first, but I hope Bama pours on 60 points. This is a disgusting excuse for a team to play for a NC. What a joke, this is laughable. Does Kansas City make the NFL Playoffs? NO!! because they are terrible. ND in the NC? There is no excuse. We as college fans, deserve better than this.

You guys quit acting so stupid. You barely beat us and you let to Texas A&M. They are better Han you and we are right there with you. Glad you are kicking Notre Dame’s butt. SEC rules college football. After this, I don’t see the Irish at #2…Congratulations ….ROLL TIDE …

I don’t care who it is Prom Prom, I agree UGA was a joke against SCAR, but UGA is not in the national title game are they? No, they stunk it up against SCAR and didn’t beat Ala. so they don’t have a right to play in it. I was just remarking that offering up a POS team like ND is a joke and is embarrassing for college football. Who do you support by the way?

The refs are trying to get it back to the points spread margin. A non-reviewed pass that was out of bounds followed by a non-existent QB roughing call “earned” that TD.
