Borrowing a Mississippi custom, the winner of tonight's game gets a handsome egg trophy. (AP photo)
By now, you’ve heard that some workers at Hartsfield-Jackson greeted the arrival of the New Orleans Saints by pelting a team bus with eggs. What the humorless Saints apparently failed to grasp was that the throwing of eggs is an Atlanta welcoming tradition. Like draping a lei around an arriving tourist is in Hawaii. Or like tossing beads is during Mardi Gras.
Wait a second. Scratch that last one.
As if this rivalry of Big Ben Right and Drew Brees rubbing it in needed more fuel, the egg toss surely supplied it. These teams, as you know, despise one another. The Falcons hate the Saints because the Saints keep beating them and laughing about it. The Saints hate the Falcons because the Falcons never seem to get the yolk … er, joke. (And also because of Roddy White. Don’t forget Roddy White.)
Cold numbers in a heated series: The Saints have won 11 of the past 13 games against the Falcons and seven of nine since the advent of Dimitroff/Smith/Ryan. Yes, it’s getting old. Yes, it’s time for the Falcons to beat this team, which on the record isn’t all that good. Yes, I believe it will happen tonight.
And with that, the figurative floor is again open. I’ll be here to watch, comment and toss out the ceremonial first egg. I invite you to join me, and I promise to do my best to see that all of y’all have an eggcellent time.

This one’s a long way from over, folks. Gotta get even more pressure on Brees. Knee down on that last TD. Let’s see if the refs play fair this time.

Someone said integrity returned when the NFL refs came back after their strike.
As a whole, NFL officiating is as biased as it gets. Its also really bad.

Mark, no we didn’t think we’d shut em out, but when our offense lacks a killer instinct, our defense can’t afford to give up points like that. ESPECIALLY when they had opportunities to get OFF the field!

Roy – it’s the coaching staff that doesn’t have killer instinct. I gripe all the time about htem sitting on 10 point leads.

Why can’t the Falcons EVER develop a truly physical style of play. San Fran’s defense looked like they play at another level. Oh yeah, TD Saints.

Why no personal foul on the Saints for the late hit?
I guess the same reason no holding has been called on the Saints. And the same reason the Saints CB can grab Roddy’s arm after he is beat. And the same reason no block in the back is called on the Saints punt return.

You knew the Saints were going to step up. Make a play Ryan. Show us why you will get one of the largest contracts in NFL history next year. Should be up at least 28-0 at this point. My wife was baffled as to why I was pissed we were up 17-0. Told her it is because the Falcons will never know how to capitalize & put a team away. As always, this game will come down to the last minute of the 4th quarter. Beyond frustrated.

I hate how the defense has their grip on a QB, and can’t bring him down. Mike Smith often says “Sacks are overrated”…I’m beginning to think the defense has taken that approach.
