Borrowing a Mississippi custom, the winner of tonight's game gets a handsome egg trophy. (AP photo)
By now, you’ve heard that some workers at Hartsfield-Jackson greeted the arrival of the New Orleans Saints by pelting a team bus with eggs. What the humorless Saints apparently failed to grasp was that the throwing of eggs is an Atlanta welcoming tradition. Like draping a lei around an arriving tourist is in Hawaii. Or like tossing beads is during Mardi Gras.
Wait a second. Scratch that last one.
As if this rivalry of Big Ben Right and Drew Brees rubbing it in needed more fuel, the egg toss surely supplied it. These teams, as you know, despise one another. The Falcons hate the Saints because the Saints keep beating them and laughing about it. The Saints hate the Falcons because the Falcons never seem to get the yolk … er, joke. (And also because of Roddy White. Don’t forget Roddy White.)
Cold numbers in a heated series: The Saints have won 11 of the past 13 games against the Falcons and seven of nine since the advent of Dimitroff/Smith/Ryan. Yes, it’s getting old. Yes, it’s time for the Falcons to beat this team, which on the record isn’t all that good. Yes, I believe it will happen tonight.
And with that, the figurative floor is again open. I’ll be here to watch, comment and toss out the ceremonial first egg. I invite you to join me, and I promise to do my best to see that all of y’all have an eggcellent time.

Of course, if Bryant hits the kick, the checkdown is fine. Gonna be a tough kick to make, though. Real tough.

Really? The guy misses a chip shot last week and another from medium distance. Has missed 5 inside 50 and you’re gonna try 55? Punt the ball and pin them in. The off chokes yet again with stupid play bland plays calls so at least give the d some room. No, he misses and brees will have them inside the falcons 20 in 3 plays,

You have two of the best WR in football and one of the best TE in football, and when you need a first down late in a game you run two straight RB screens?

I think I’d just try to pin them deep. Too low percentage of a kick.

This play calling show the complete lack of confidence in the OL. Smith knows Ryan can’t scramble and he also knows that Baker and co. can’t block a middle school team.

Ordinarily, I’d punt but I have more faith in a 55 yard FG to go up 2 scores than I do keeping the Saints out of the end zone with 5 minutes left.

They are not open after 2-3 secs. But they are open after 4-5. But the horrible pass protection prevents Ryan from throwing the ball downfield.

I wish at least one team from Atlanta would, for just one season, just dominate and put people away when they are supposed to.
Nice job, Bryant.
